I thought he had a pretty nice game last night. I think he is one of those players that plays better than he practices. Besides that one bullcrap penalty he was one of the few bright spots last night.

this...i think it a lot of last nights coverage issue was that we are so thin at DB yet we had to run a constant nickle/dime package out there

He seemed to be locked on Hawaii's main receiver a lot. That one play where Moniz overthrew the receiver in the endzone, Orms was right there step for step with the receiver. He also had some solid tackles. I think if he stays healthy he might be a great help at CB.

did they even throw to hendo's side

He needs to be a nickelback. He played ok but the fact that he is a starting CB is sad

I'm not as pleased with Orms' performance. There were positives he can build on and he's definitely an active guy, but he had a number of mistakes and missed opportunities last night.

I felt like he tackled well, but he was giving huge cushions to keep guys in front of him. But, tackling well is something we haven't been able to say about anyone besides Jimmy Smith for a few years (and something Polk needs to look up).

With a more talented team he would be able to do just this. He doesn't have the physical tools to go out one on one with the best recievers but his hustle and his brains used correctly would let him read and take advantage of his freedom making some game changing plays. The injuries at corner coming in mean that a number of guys are being forced to do things they shouldn't be asked to do.

Jimmy was a good tackler? I always felt that was something he wasn't great at because he'd go for the big hit. Jalil and Cha'pelle Brown I also felt were much better tacklers.

That said, Orms did a fine job, but I'll withhold my judgement to see how he does against Cal. That's going to be a real test because Moniz wasn't as crisp with his passes as I thought he'd be last night.

Jalil never wrapped up on any hit until his Sr year. Or at least that's how it seemed to me. Jalil would go for the big hit and bounce right off the ball-carrier.

I always felt Jimmy was a better tackler than Jalil, but that's probably not saying much.

Nah, that I can agree with Jalil not being solid until his Senior year. Just that he was very solid in his last year. People wouldn't throw to Jimmy because he was very aggressive and was damn good at covering. Did he ever play special teams though? He had the speed for it.

Jimmy was a Deion Sanders type tackler. He reliably got the guy down. That's all I really expect from a corner. Having a guy who will take on blockers and stick ball carriers so that they're not falling forward for extra yards is fairly rare and much less important than coverage skills.

The thing I like most about Orms is he has some football instincts, those type of guys usually pan out pretty well. Not a guy that you use the eyeball test on, just a solid football player.
