If anyone can tell me what they do these days, I would love to hear it. Polk and Perkins have disappeared. Enough about Polk's athleticism and speed, his instincts have not gotten better in the last 2+ years. Perkins does not seem to be making many plays either. We need some new blood back there.

Completely agree. I still maintain hope Polk will someday have the light come on, but Perkins is just completely MIA. I have pretty high hopes for Washington back there, so we need to find another ballhawk big hitting playmaker to pair with him.

It's brutal with Polk not knowing what he's doing and Perkins having lost "it". Polk needs to cut this **** out with the blatant late hits

I agree. Perkins is non-existent and Polk just drives me crazy. The guy is always a step late in getting into the play. I think he plays to deep at times because he is worried about getting beat over the top. With his speed and size he should be a terror back there. He just doesn't seem to have any instincts.

Would love to see what he would be doing carrying the rock.

Perkins doesn't have the athleticism to be a playmaker. That would be ok, given his football IQ, if he was paired with an all-conferece type safety.

I'm ready to see more of Terror Smith back there. I'm also ready to see us get some reps for Harlos since he has already burned his redshirt on special teams. Definitely Washington too (over Harlos) if he has already seen the field.

Or move Sandersfeld back there and live with the growing pains of having Moten (or Deji or Vigo) learn on the job at cornerback.

American Flyers sig pic FTMFW!

Polk doesn't have any instincts as a safety and Perkins has been invisible this year. I'd like to see Orms playing safety.

I think we're stronger with Orms in the Nickel and Sandersfeld or Terror at safety. Orms is a good nickel who will only get better as the season progresses. I think we need to let him develop there. He could be a playmaker for us.

I think Orms would be playing a lot of FS now if we weren't so short handed at corner. Bell getting hurt really messed up a lot of stuff.

Not defending him because he has missed a lot of plays and had some bad penalties but it looks like Polk is getting blamed for a lot of missed coverages where he is actually coming in to the play trying to cover for someone elses blown coverage.

Orms is definitely a playmaker, but I don't know if he has the wheels to play CB. I definitely want him on the field, though.

Sandersfeld needs to go back to safety for sure, though. Dude is just not fast.

Orms doesn't have the length to play CB against a #1 lanky type WR. Not sure his wheels are hte problem. But yes, I would like new safeties. And can Mahnke never play again? He's an embarrasment.

the td he gave up was bad I'm pretty sure the fb or te was his only assignment on that play.

Let's be careful about going too negative on players. Since I'm being nice, I have nothing to say about Mahnke and hope that I don't have a reason to not say anything the rest of the season.

Maybe polk should have stayed at rb. Don't know what's wrong with perkins.

Still having nightmares of his 3rd degree burns at Toledo.

getting dragged 15 yards into the endzone = embarrassing. I'm embarrassed for him.

Polk just seems to have no pursuit ability. One glaring thing about that is that deep pass on the right hash in the 3rd (?) where he just sat in his zone while the ball was in the air. Mahnke's attempt at a tackle when Cal scored was just, turrible.

He really did go for quite the ride on the back of #80. Why did he try to go high after that guy? How did that monster of a man "get away from him?"

Injuries have slowed down Perkins. One play Perkins had good pressure and probably wouldn't have had a sack either way but if he was a tad faster the pass would not have been completed, instead it was a big gain for cal.

Simply humiliating. I've never seen someone dragged quite like that at this level. 15 yards is no exaggeration unfortunately
Seriously. That may be one of the worst attempts I've seen in a while. Put your helmet in front of him, hit him at the hip, and take him down, don't take a ****ing horse ride on him.

Yeah, it is an exaggeration. He hopped on the dude's back on the 7-8 yard line. Not quite 15, but still terrible.

Live action today showed Polk very deep and too slow to react to blow up several lofted throws over the middle. I was waiting for the safety to come in and blow someone up and it didn't happen. The WR made the catch and then got hit too late. Polk is not blatantly out of position, he's just out of position often. Late to the party.

We'd be much better right now with Bell and Henderson at CB and Orms at a safety position. Until then, Let's see Terror Smith smacking some guys over the middle.

Safety play was atrocious today.
CBs were exposed at the end.

That was the story today. A step late.

Not to bring back awful memories, but I remember watching Brad Jones get dragged into the endzone by a lambchop TE in the RMS a few years ago. Was almost the exact same play that we saw today.

I took a swipe at Polk on another thread that wasn't completely deserved. To his credit, he stepped up and made a sacrifice to fill an empty spot on the roster, and in the process may have cost himself a shot at the pros. He has the size and speed to play pro ball, and I think our offense is missing him at RB.

At safety, he still looks lost, and opposing QB's are looking into his coverage area on every snap. I don't think either he or Perkins would be getting much PT for other PAC teams. Not helping that he gets frustrated and commits personal fouls, and he's starting to make that a regular thing.

As disappointed as I am in him so far, his play is slightly better this year. Most of the reason is he's doing a better job at keeping his depth. But that has limits. When it's 3rd & 30 for the ballgame, you might want to stop backpedaling @ 25 yards and help out with the only deep receiver to your side. That boils down to instincts and awareness that you'd expect from an upperclassman DB. He looks like a converted halfback trying to hit his marks rather than a natural safety reading and reacting.

Perkins seems like he's doing OK in coverage, but still seems to get hung up in traffic too easily trying to work his way to the ball when we need someone to keep a play from turning into a gasher.
