Not to make too many threads praising players after a loss... but this is another that deserves one. Clutch kick to tie it and in OT (may not have been too long but clutch, especially for a true frosh), and a fairly long kick to go with it. Looks amazing so far, how nice is it to have a kicker we can have confidence in? I wanted to give him a shot right before half , what would that have been... 60 yards?

I knew we were set when he sank that one from 52. He's going to win us a game or two this year -- and we're certainly due for an opponent to have some meaningful kicking blunders of their own. Also glad that Oliver finally took over kickoffs. First one was ugly going out of bounds, but he'll be much better than Castor. Castor's inability to kick the ball deeper than the 10 yard line is bad enough, but at least get some height on the thing if you're going to do that.

Kickoffs were ugly from both of them... Cal's guy got a touchback almost everytime, I hope Oliver can start doing that... but thats secondary to the field goals imo

It's such a relief to have some specialists that I don't fear for the worst when they go out there. Now if we could fix the other portions of the special teams..

Does Castor get invited to transfer out freeing up a schollie, might ask the same for Grossnickle since it looks like both of them are unlikely to ever be our kickers again.

Grossnickle needs to be used on kickoffs. He's probably got the strongest leg in the program. We're wasting him by not using him there.

Regarding Oliver, I am so impressed with this kid. Making a field goal off a bad snap/hold is CLUTCH. Making a 52 yarder is CLUTCH. Making a FG in overtime is CLUTCH. I'm still in the process of learning to expect a made field goal when we line up, but he's getting me there.

Also, I heard him interviewed on 760am in the post-game. Everything he talked about was "team, team, team". I liked him a lot. He plays a very individual position that is kind of outside the regular team, but he is all about the Buffs and didn't want to focus on himself in the interview. Root for this guy.

If we are going to be rugby punting we might as well use Grossnickle. He is better at those anyway.

Huge concern to me was the hangtime on our kicks.

On a sad note, damn does Cal have some good kicks.

Excellent, consistant, quiet and humble. Doesn't need to gloss himself with nicknames he doesn't live up to. Glad he and the punter are here for 4 years. An important part of special teams, dealt with.
