The Redzone: Cal-5/5, CU-0/4

JRK1212

Troll
This is how we can outgain Cal by 162 yards (this includes subtracted penatly yards), not miss a FG, not turn the ball over, not give up any sacks and yet still lose the game. Our offense stalled every time we got close (conservative play calling did not help the cause) and our D couldn't hold them to FG's.

EB's redzone playcalling left a LOT to be desired. 4 straight halfback dives in overtime are you ****ing kidding?! It would have been excusable if it had been getting good success all game, but those first two inside runs of OT were the ONLY two of the entire game that worked! What the hell was EB thinking? Stewart is not a power runner, stop trying to pretend that he is!

And those two runs by Stewart PERFECTLY set us up for either a play-action pass to the TE or a fake hand-off with a naked bootleg for Tyler.

I don't think Tyler could move much in the OT. Limits your options for sure.

Reminds me of the Broncos last year. We need to get the running game going if we're going to be effective in the RZ

this^^^

I was saying play action on second and goal! kinda pissed that we ran

Yep. That play action where we slipped the ball out to Deehan in the flat was good for 3 or 4 yards all game long.

I think that the problem was that Tyler couldn't move. EB was calling a better game than that.

Red zone was a huge difference in the game. Cal was able to run effectively. We weren't. Also, Cal's WRs were able to pick on every CB we have other than Henderson for quick routes.

Cal's 6 scores were 5 touchdowns and a field goal.

CU's 7 scores were 3 touchdowns and 4 field goals.

Ball game. Steve Young once said something that is absolutely true on this: "Every time we kicked a field goal I felt like we had just gotten closer to losing." You can't waste opportunities.

Does cal have some amazing linebackers? It seems like every time he got into the flat he was pretty well covered.

For as much of a troll as JRK is, he's spot on here. Falls completely in line wit Embree's "need to finish" mantra.

We didn't finish in the redzone yesterday - therefore we lost.

1. RZ comes down to OL play and experience at Offensive Coordinator. Our OL let us down and Bienemy couldn't go away from the mantra that we are going to be tougher than everyone and pound it down their throats. Sometimes you have to get cute when the game is on the line and you can't play smashmouth. How about a pitch outside where Speedy has room to make a move or maybe a FB dive. Something they haven't used for a while. Honestly on 1st and goal from the 4 you should be able to call 3 QB sneaks and make it in College Football.

I thought EB called a good game, but I would have liked to see the outside pitch used some more on the weak side. I did not like the play calling on the last few plays - but I don't know what Tyler's limitations might have been.

Almost 100% certain that the reason we ran it in OT is because Tyler was cramping so bad that he couldnt mover in the pocket. That being said, a play action pass would have one the game for us I think, after 4 straight runs, a play action to the TE would have at least put us into 2nd OT
