This team was light years better than Game 1

Yeah we are all pissed/disappointed/kicked in the nuts from yesterday, but holy crap was that improvement!

The O-line improvement was nothing short of stellar. People are still whining that we don't seem to be rushing the ball. You do realize that we increased our rushing production from a week ago by 91 yard don't you? Especially against a much more athletic defense. We also out rushed the opposing team just so you know. The offense was off the charts improved over last week. Our defense only allowed 27 more yards of total offense against Cal than against UH and improved in the rushing D department holding them to a very respectable 100 yards rushing.

The two major issues I saw were penalties, and kickoff coverage. Let's face it, Colorado beat themselves and I have every faith that that will not fly with Embree for long. Even if this team continues with moderate improvement over the remaining course of the season, which is very likely as the players and coaches continue to get on the same page, they are going to win some games.

It's easy to want to throw in the towel for the season after such a heartbreaking loss, but I have a feeling that we may still end up making some noise this year. I'm not writing this team off yet, not by a long shot!

Are you kidding? Hansen had lots of time to throw. OL was not the problem yesterday

To say the OL play was stellar is a bit of a stretch. The OL has to do better. Seeing Miller getting tossed around is still bothering the **** out of me.

Good post. The only thing I disagree with you on is the OL play. It's been bad.

It has started awful, and has a long way to go, but they still improved dramatically which was my point. Again increased rushing output of nearly 100 yards and going from 7 sacks to 0! The play calling of course helped with that with moving Hanson around more but I saw many plays where he had time in the pocket to make the throw down the field.

You don't get almost 600 yards of total offense with bad offensive line play. Cal had 8 and 9 guys in the box all day, and that meant that Rodney Stewart was running into a wall and PRich was one-on-one on the outside. Every opponent from here on out keeps 7 in the box and doubles PRich. Now Stewart has to take advantage.

Rodney didn't have much space to work with. I think most of the credit for Rodney's 73 yards should go to Rodney creating and making plays. The guy had just about zero space to work in. But what else is new? We've been like this for the past three years.

I thank muscular trapeze artist Jesus every night for PRich. That guy is unreal.

But if a couple more guys get hurt, we might be calling to see if #1 son can find a little more eligibility tucked away somewhere....

The Oline played MUCH better in pass protection against a Cal Dline that is much more talented than Hawaii up front. The penalties were inexcusable and hurt us big time. The running game still doesn't impress, but we're also suffering from the lack of a big back that can run between the tackles. Speedy is perfectly suited for the sweeps, screens, and dump-offs that have been very successful, but we desperately need a big back who can run between the tackles - Speedy just can't be that guy.

The last person we should be criticizing right now is Rodney.

Who's criticizing? He's small - not his fault. He's very good at a lot of things, but my point is we desperately need to recruit a couple of bigger backs to effectively run the power running game EB wants to implement. Speedy is a lot of very good things, but a consistent between the tackles runner he is not.

Is this the conspiracy that made you a believer in conspiracies? Come on you have to be a CTer to believe that fairy tale no?

You couldn't just accept the play on words and chuckle?

Will we have any O Linemen left at the end of the year? Considering the plethora, yes, the plethora of injuries, I thought we did pretty well. At least it looks like we have some depth.

Agree, O-line did play better, but the play calling and quick reads for Hansen was much smoother as well, didn't have to sit back in the pocket as much. One thing that REALLY worries me and I'd be curious if anyone else has picked up on it, but Hansen STARES down his receiver almost ever time. He doesn't go through his progression reads, just locks in on one guy and stares him down until he throws. I see some pick 6's coming if he doesn't stop that *****. This team will be lights out on offense when we get our 6ft 220lbs tail back crushing it. LOVE speedy but he not going to average 4-5 yards per carry with our o-line and his size.
