I am more confident in this program than I have been in many years..

I don't like the complaints about moral victories every time someone says something positive after a loss. I hated losing this game as much as all of you guys. It hurts and it stinks and this was a game we could and should have won! I'm not preaching about a moral victory here, understood? Yet, for some reason: I have confidence in this regime and the future of Buffs football. I was a Hawkins supporter, but didn't feel this way except for the two weeks after the OU upset victory. With this new regime, I see a plan in place with seasoned NFL coaches who know how to make it all work. We're seeing adjustments at half-time and all throughout the game - and guess what, for the first time since Mason Crosby, we have a guy who can kick field goals and make them.

Does anyone think CU has more overall talent than CAL? Talent aside, this was our 2nd game under Embree..CAL has been with Tedford for a number of years and they have continuity and an identity already in place. We are just on the brink of discovering CU's identity. I could be wrong, but I just have a very good feeling that we have the right staff.

me too. this week is kinda BS because we have to win (no excuses). lose, i'm off. but that ain't gonna happen. CSU sucks toad.

Agree completely. We look more like a real football team that has toughness and resilience than we ever did the past five years. I love the team's pro-style look, and I think recruits do too. There is a reality setting in that I think we all knew prior to the season...we will lose a lot of games this year, but I think we are playing our hearts our and I am proud of the way most of the players look out there.

Perhaps the biggest difference between losing the last five years and losing this year is I used to be angry about it (lack of preparedness, effort, play calling, etc) whereas now I am just really bummed, like they did all they could but our talent just isn't there. (Like many have said before, if we fired hawkins a year earlier we'd have had an extra year of development and recruiting real talent.

oh, but if we lose to CSU I may take back every positive word I've had about the team/coaches

What can be said is that the fanbase is definitely reaching for something to grab hold of. Blowing out CSU and beating ohio stank is exactly what is needed heading into out first pac 12 game vs Washington State. How great would that be?

Go Buffs.

beating the sheep by about a zillion, followed by upsetting ohio state in their house would cure a lot.

i'd be effing thrilled to head into the conference at 2-2. but, one game at a time. sheep game is a must win.

I'm just not sure. I love Jon and Scooter for everything they've done for the program, but I'm just not sure if they're the answer this program desperately needs.

I pray I'm wrong, because I'm sick of losing.

I believe this team is fully capable of beating a depleted OSU squad at home or on a neutral site. However, I'm afraid this offensive line will get about 10 false starts with the noise they'll experience in the Shoe. Hope they prove me wrong.

A depleted OSU squad is still light-years ahead of CU talent-wise.

I am very calm about this team. I feel confidence that I haven't felt in years. I think we have the right staff in place for the most part. Let's upgrade the talent and let Brown, Embree, and EB get a little experience under their belt, and see where we're at.

However, Vamos' nervousness makes me worried :smile2:

Sure, but Toledo almost proved that talent doesn't always win the day. In the Shoe. Although I haven't been scouting Toledo this year, I'd wager that our talent meets or exceeds theirs, at least. Plus we have none of the pressure - OSU's backups still have 100K people expecting them to beat a 1-2 team. Especially if they come back from Miami with a loss.

Not predicting a win....just saying it's not too far a stretch to call it winnable.

After 2 games you're already questioning the staff? Wow, patience man, patience.

Great description. I'm in the same boat with these guys. I really feel like they are going to seriously get better every week they play this year and pick up some nice wins along the way.

I think CU is in good hands with this staff. Embree seems to be the antithesis to Hawk. Hawk was "Let's never get too high or too low", Control your emotions, fancy and finesse. Where Embree is fire and brimstone, Feel the pain, get fired up, straight forward and tough. Football, I believe more than any sport, swings on emotions during the games and in between the games. I believe Embree's style is what this team needs. Now Embree, Bienemy and some others on the staff are green but will grow with their team. I already see improvement from both the staff and team. In three or four years I fully expect this program to be back in the top 25. This will be a tough season to gut out but I do see a light at the end of the tunnel and I can't wait!!!

agree with the calm feeling. We are in good hands. Now someone fark the allstate symbol.

My confidence level in the program is much higher than it's been in several years - somewhere in the early Hawk years.

Considering how ****ing low my confidence level had been the last few years, this could be a pretty much meaningless statement, but in this case my confidence level actually is fairly high these days...

Nice double post by the Mod!

Not only do the players have to gel as a team, but the coaches have to gel as a staff. These guys hadn't coached with each other, for the most part, coming in to this season. The coaches are still learning how to work with each other and learning how to deal with the players they inherited. I'm kind of looking at the OOC schedule as a "pre-season" in terms of developing chemistry.

So you are saying we are gonna struggle OOC and win the pac12 S? Nice

I have had very low expectations for this team thus far this year, because Hawaii is a decently talented team and a hell of a tough place to play, and Cal was so much better than us last year, both physically and mentally. Because of that, an 0-2 start does not have me freaking out. I am also disappointed because we came out in the Cal game and spotted them a 10+ halftime lead, just like we did against Hawaii. Things like that have to be corrected. We lost both games in the first half, and then looked like the better team in the second.

This week, though, is a must win. CSU is not very good, Fairchild is a bad coach, and it's ****ing CSU anyway. I think there will be a lot of people feeling much differently about the direction this team is headed if we piss that game away. Just come out, blow their doors off from the beginning, and keep the pedal down until the final gun.

Then we can worry about tOSU. I think the Buckeyes are probably the most beatable they've been in years, but every game they play this season gives their young guys and backups experience as starters. Anybody who thinks we're going to go in and win because they're 'depleted' is probably delusional. I mean, who knows, and I hope the guys are as jacked up to play CSU and OSU as they are for every game, but you're probably not going to find many teams as jacked up to play an opponent as Miami and Toledo were going in to play OSU in the Shoe.

If striving to be "competitive" every other game is truly our goal, we might as well bring back the HaLk, as I remember being competitive with some other middle of the road conference teams last year as well

While I certainly am encouraged by some things, the future is still way too muddy for me to go down the same road as we all did with HaLk (all this moral victory, look at the bright sides, 1 or 2 plays, blah blah that is being spewed right now)......until we can prove that we can show up on the road, win the close games at home and blow out the teams we should be blowing out, then we can start talking real progress

This weekend can be 1 step in the right direction by obliterating CSU like we should.....no more excuses, just get it done

The team showed great improvement between week 1 and week 2, the mistakes were down and the energy level was up. That means the staff is learning and the team is as well. That may not immediately translate into wins but it might well mean we are on a long track back to consistent success. The talent gap remains but it does appear that these guys will play hard.

Really curious to see who our RT is next week. It was musical chairs in there on saturday with all the injuries. With Harris down, we really need bahktiari back in a bad way to free up dannewitz or Lewis to play RT. Danne played soo much better in week 2, as did our centers. So far that Marshall hire is looking Aok.

And miller was killing fools all game. I saw on a pass pro in the first quarter that miller popped their Dt so hard he went back 2 yards.

Did any logical Buff fan have us winning this game? Especially having lost at Hawaii?

Criminy.

If people are finding bright spots after losing to Wazzou, then we can starting talking about sunshine pumpers vs. realists.

Right now, reality is on the side of the 'moral victory' people.
