The Washington State game will be a "brick game"

...
Boulder, Colorado- At his press conference today Colorado football coach John Embree announced that this Saturday’s game against perennial PAC-12 powerhouse Washington State would be a “brick game.” This tradition, originally started by legendary CU coach Bill McCartney, entails paintings bricks in the Dal Ward Center with the date and game score after big wins (although in reality they’re cinder blocks, not bricks, and instead of painting them they just glue a laminated sheet of paper onto them).

Embree explained his decision by saying, “if we win this game it will be my first win as a head coach against a team from the state of Washington so that’s a pretty big deal.” Asked if that meant that a win this saturday would mean that their October 15th game at Washington wouldn’t be a brick game Embree grew angry. “Hell no,” he replied, “Beating UW would be the first win for this program against a team who’s primary color is purple since we beat Kansas State at the end of last year, and that’s a pretty long time to go without beating one of those purple teams so we’ll definitely put a brick if we get that one.”

Every game so far this season has been a brick game and the team has already captured three bricks; one for their victory against the treacherous CSU rams and two new ones that the team just earned this week. Embree said that they had a team scrimmage on Monday and because the buffs won they got another brick. The particular brick chosen to commemorate that win is the brick right next to the one commemorating CU’s 1990 National Championship victory. The team also got a brick when an unnamed player playing as Colorado defeated Ohio State in ES Sports NCAA Football 2012 on X-Box. “I was so proud of that,” Embree said, “To beat a great program like that and do so on the road, it was just awesome. I told the team that it wasn’t going to be easy, OSU was much more talented then we were plus one of the buttons on the controller was broken and the TV had poor quality but hey, we persevered. We played smart, tough football. Watching CU play on TV last year I saw a team hoping to win, whereas on this TV today I saw a team that expected to win.” The brick for this game will be right above the one celebrating the Buffs 62-36 victory over #1 Nebraska in 2001.

JRK>Buckeye 5

or..........

Buckeye 5>JRK

That is the real question.............

I'm so torn

To be fair to JRK Embree making the CSU game a brick game was pretty ridiculous especially since even Hawk had a winning record vs CSU. to

Obviously I hate this because I love Embo, but to be honest, I laughed. Youre still a bag though.

Agreed. I have to admit it was entertaining. JRK's just having fun and as Jimmy pointed out, making the CSU game a brick game was a bit far-fetched.

Who defined the rule that a brick game has to be vs a team we didn't have a winning record?

I actually thought this was legitimate for a minute. Would not surprise me at all if this game turned out to be a "brick" game when it is all said and done.

If beating a ****** CSU team qualifies as a "brick" game, then I am sure winning our first ever Pac-12 game, even against a ****** WSU team, would also qualify.

I love that we fans get to judge the brick game. I think Embo and staff have a much better feeling of what that entails.

Only judging it based upon the standard CU itself made public in the weeks leading up to the season.

This is what JE publicly said:

"For everybody who walks in, that brick is going to stick out. That brick is going to tell a story about how all those other bricks got back up there. That brick’s going to be the one, when you guys come back here 5 or 10 years from now, they say that was the brick that turned it around. That was the game."

If JE finally turns it around here, I don't see any reason why vs CSU is not a brick game. Perhaps you guys have better standard though

And here's what JE said publicly in early August:

"There's a brick wall in our building and under Coach [Bill] McCartney, if you won a big game, you used to paint a brick gold and put the score and the date of the game on there," Embree said. "You knew game week, this was for a brick and it was a big game."

"What I've challenged this team is, because of the nature of our schedule and the nature of being in this conference, there's going to be a lot of opportunities to get bricks," he said. "To qualify for a brick, it has to be a top 25 team or a unique situation that will count. For us this year, we'll probably have seven or eight opportunities. Our first opportunity to earn a brick is Hawaii. We've lost 18 games in a row on the road and we need to end that streak."

Wait so we're putting stickers on the bricks now and not painting them? That is pissing on tradition!!!!!! ! ! !!

And here's what JE said publicly in early August:

Yes, what's wrong? So you are saying that we fans should have better judgement on what counts as "unique situation" than the them? And this brick game is a joke because the first win in JE's era should not count in our mind?

CSU was neither a top 25 team nor a "unique situation"

I already said that I would give them WSU because it was the first Pac 12 game -- therefore it qualifies as a "unique situation."

CSU wasn't a unique situation seeing as how it's Beerme's first win as a HC? Sorry but I think Beerme knows what a brick is.

I think we at least should give coach the benefit of doubt to decide which one qualifies as "unique situation". If he publicly said "7 or 8" opportunities, I think he already counted CSU game in at that time.

If you disagree, that's fine. But mocking it is just silly

So Hawkins' first win should get a brick, too? Barnett's San Jose State game?

Beerme's (whoever the **** that is) opinion of a brick game must be pretty ****ing low.

Hawkins painted over the bricks so that's a moot point. Jesus have some faith in the coaches.

And really? Beerme? Look at it closely.

And when Barnett took over and bet SJSU, we weren't a terrible team like we are now. We had won a national title, numerous big name bowl games, coming off consistent top 10 rankings, etc. Totally different scenario than what we have in 2011.

If they're going to hand out bricks for beating any swinging dick who comes to play then they SHOULD BE painted over.

I have plenty of faith in the coaches. I think the bricks are a great motivational idea. But they have to MEAN SOMETHING for them to be a motivator.

So a new head coaches first win means jack ****?

Situations are totally different. Did Barnett take over a team "burned to the ground"? Hawkins ****ing painted over it.

Wins against a terrible CSU team should not count for "bricks" on a wall of meaningful wins- I don't care if Mick Tingelhoff is coaching the team.

Putting a brick up because it was Embree's first win and for that reason alone makes it sound like he is more important than the team. Colorado beat Colorado State in 2010, 2008, 2007 --- should all of those games get bricks too?? **** no.

Jesus H. Why are people so fired up about the GD bricks? Unless you're name is Fla Buff or Wyo Buff, shut your ****ing mouth.
