I saw this in the Denver Post this am:

It's nice that special teams has become a priority, but for some reason this does not give me a warm feeling. Maybe I don't understand how special teams are coached, but hopefully there is some preparation and guidance provided by the staff. What good is it to have the best athletes if they have no idea what to do?
 
Coming from the WSU experience with the coaching change in 2007 our special teams were a disater(well pretty much the entire progam was). WSU was so depleted in the depth ranks that the majority of the starters were soon on every one of them. It is not what your want to do as it is more running for important guys. After the first couple of games in 2008 Wulff had to place first line guys everywhere just to survive, but our first line guys were pretty terrible anyway so not much in the way of hope there.

Last season they went out and hired a special teams guy, but the most important thing for special teams is depth and want to. Last season WSU finally had the speed and ability in the depth chart to fill special teams with underclassmen. We ended up having the best kick coverage team in the nation for most of the year last season.

Wulff also has done something really smart as well the last two seasons on specail teams. He has developed a great walk on program and just like last season he has been able to keep at least 2 red shirts on scholarship plalyers he would in 2008 and 2009 had to play due to their speed for special teams. He has had 2 true frosh walk-ons each of the last two seasons that are on every special team. He found some kids with speed and toughness and feeds them to the wovles and they love it. One kid is the younger brother of WR Gino Simone. In the first 3 games he was everywhere making tackles on punts, and kickoffs.
