As upsetting as this is now...I have news for all of you. This is going to get worse before it ever has a chance to get better. While I don't think that our senior class is by any means great...next season we lose about 30 players from the depth chart and will breaking in a whole new crop of inexperienced players. You may not want to hear this, but inside the walls of Dal Ward they know this, have tried to coach it that way in hopes of helping for next year etc.

I have had a few different coaches tell me that they really don't know what they will have til the middle to end of next season. This is not to say they don't think they can or will win before that, but they know how behind the eight ball they are with talent and depth. I try to be as honest as I can when I look at our teams, some of you get upset because we are not "upbeat" on the radio show etc. Bottom line is we are not very good! We are deficient in a ton of areas and need to get better players to correct this. We have a few D1, BCS caliber players, but we need 40 of them...not 8.

I am not a huge fan of what Embree and friends have done so far! I am not patient and will never be...but we have to play the hand we were dealt. Say what you want about the previous staff, but they dealt the hand and Enbree has to play with it for now. We are going to have to do everything better...recruit, coach, etc.

I am sorry this is so doom and gloom from my view, but I think it is time we look at the real situation, figure out how and when it can be fixed...and rally a fan base around that.

It was great to see and meet some of you today...Sacky, great as usual.

so not only are we gunna suck this year, we are going to suck for the foreseeable future! hurray!

Not what he is saying. But this year: yes, next year: probably but not as much, year after that, We should be winning. It will take a while to get guys in the program and to change the thinking that we will win this game. Right now, just as Embo said in his presser, this team doesn't expect to win and they won't win until the 11 guys on the field think they are going to win.

I suggest you work on your patience because you don't really have a choice. We need to hope for a lucky QB recruit that can turn things around, like Luck did for Stanford. Or work on visible and cheap additions to facilities to encourage recruits to come here. Is there a T Bone Pickens out there that can donate a few hundred million to the school? Could also go after specialty recruits like Texas Tech did, guys that do only one thing fairly well and help cover their deficiencies with the scheme.

Unfortunately I think Embree was dealt a ****** hand and now he has to play it. We dump him because we are impatient, we may never get a good coach into the program. It's not like the school is paying the coaches top dollar.

We really need money, kind of wish we left the big 12 years ago. I just didn't like the conference or how things were headed.

I agree. The talent really isn't there. The incoming recruiting class is solid but unspectacular, outside of Dillon and the QB transfer. My concern is that recruiting without wins is going to be difficult; the staff is just going to have to do it anyway if they are to be successful here. We need to bring in consecutive nationally-relevant recruiting classes if we are going to step out of the cellar. The last few Hawkins classes look really, really bad right now.

Totally striking out on a strong in-state class this year doesn't look great, either.

I think we have a long road ahead of us, but the coaches have a long leash with regards to this year and the following, as far as I am concerned.

Agree, Reed. It's tough to have patience right now given that we're now in the middle of our sixth straight year of horrendous football, and this might be our worst record since '06 (or quite possibly even worse than that). It's sickening, we put so much time and passion into supporting the Buffs, and after finally getting rid of Hawkins it now becomes clear that things may have to get even WORSE for at least a couple years before they POSSIBLY get any better. I knew this year wasn't going to be pretty, but this has brought it to a whole new level of doom and gloom with a home loss to Washington State (especially after being up 10 with 5 minutes to play). The Buffs certainly lack elite talent and any sort of depth this year, but we should not be 1-4 right now (and likely 1-9 once this brutal 5 game stretch is over with), and that's what's frightening to me about today's defeat. This simply wasn't a game where we can say "oh, well the Buffs just aren't as talented" or "Oh, the Buffs just haven't learned to close out wins yet". We let a team that was 7-33 under Wulff with exactly one road win in his tenure previous to today defeat us. This was simply a devastating loss -- forget this season, but even heading into the future. It's one thing to sell a program and get some solid recruits when you win 5 games in a coaches' first season, but where do we go from here recruiting-wise with the Buffs likely going 2-11 this year?? We aren't going to be able to bring in the class we so desperately needed to bring in, and we're going to devoid ourselves of talent and depth for yet another season. There are certainly some bright spots for next year (Wood/Dillon), PRich returning, etc., but it's looking like 2012 will be another brutal season in which the Buffs will struggle to win more than 4 or 5 (maybe Bohn can help us out w/ our OOC sched for once). At some point either in the remainder of this year, or next year, we're going to have to find a way to win a few that we shouldn't and exceed expectations. It's going to be extremely hard for Embree & Co. to ever get this thing off the ground if we went 2-11 this year, followed by like 3-9 next year. Sad, sad times to be a Buff fan

Agree that next year is going to be similar to this season. But I'm going to look at the positives of losing 30 players. They are soft and having a losing mentality. How in the hell do you have a senior returning punts and still fair chatches a punt at the 5 yard line. Your telling me that the coaches are not telling him.

I'm sure they have been great buff's but I'm ready to have Embry's kids and only his kids here. Next year is going to be difficult but we are going to see new blood out there and a new attitude.

I have been going to Folsom for 20 years. Most fans have the same attitude as the players do. We expect to lose. Back in the day when we lost the fans were pissed off, showed some passion. Now we just shrug our shoulders, say oh well and come back next week.

Very much agree.....but damn near impossible to rally a fan base around that idea. Even the most informed fans on this site are aware of and can accept all of these deficiencies yet when this team is provided another opportunity to at least make us smile for 1 second they find a way to lose. It has become so 2nd nature of the past 5-6 years that even the best of fans are quite disheartened despite the reasoning or legitimate excuses that exist.

While patience is needed......down right impossible to actually expect or even ask this fan base to be any more patient than we've already been....Unfortunately that probably means a lot of empty stadiums this/next year and a lot of hoping/preying that this staff can recruit the guys they like/need in order to change the culture of not only this team but this fan base

Too many diamonds in the rough that turned out to be Cubic Zirconia. You speak many truths. The problem will be getting decent players to commit to a loser. Bells, buzzers and whistles at the stadium are going to help some but Embree and staff are going to have to work some real recruiting magic over the next two or three years, more than what I've seen so far. More so called diamonds in the rough are not going to help this situation, we need some real talent

Your team has what so many players crave-playing time. Can your coach sell it?

Incompetent coaching has directly cost us two games this year already, cal and wash state. And to hear Embree place the blame on the players for that is pathetic. They sucked, but he does too. we've been outcoached in pretty much every game. Even CSU outcoached us, we are damn lucky their stupid special teams player touched the ball after that blocked punt

I sure hope so because that is truly the one saving grace in this dilemma. I think he is a good coach, has a generally solid staff and could make us a contender again someday, but we are a serious hard sell right now

Hawkins whiffed on too many recruits. Sure, we could use the 4 and 5 star guys who can step onto campus and help the team, but it's more important that a scholarship doesn't go to a player who can't contribute at this level. Too many of those and you are screwed. That's what Embree is dealing with, and it's a very difficult situation-trying to convince the team that they can win now when simultaneously acknowledging the talent gap.

I'm hopeful that the anger an passion of the coaches (the complete opposite of Hawkins' staff) will, at the least, rub off on some players, that they, too, get sick of losing. It may not translate into wins this season, but would help in the future.

It's going to take a while to become competitive in the PAC, losing doesn't help recruiting, but can be overcome by hard working coaches. McCartney didn't win until his 4th year, but he was able to recruit. This staff will have to do the same.

So...did Hawk and his staff coach up our talent? Because we won more games under Hawk.

2012 is going to be interesting. We lose a third of the roster. From a cultural standpoint, that is a good thing.

It also sounds like Connor Wood is going to be an upgrade at QB. That can be a game changer.

We also have a manageable schedule and a veteran defense in 2012.

I don't expect a great team, but I do expect to see significant improvement.

I don't think he has placed the blame on the players. Sure, he says they don't have the mentality, etc., but he specifically states that it's on him in his press conference.

If you think the losses were all about coaching, I find that hilarious. Nope dont make the players have any accountablility whatsoever. Was there some bad play calling in the game, no doubt that 3rd down call was terrible. Even established long time coordinators make bad play calls it happens and we are talking about a coordinator that is 5 games in of his first season. Maybe you wanted to hear Embree blaming the players but that isnt what he did at all if you listened objectively. Getting these guys to change who they have been for 4 and 5 years might be the hardest job Embree has.

I remember how pumped we all were with Hawkins' recruiting class 5 years ago. I remember, and I don't remember much anymore, but I remember how, five years ago, we pointed to 2011 as our year to make a run at the Big XII championship and beyond. When we hired Hawkins, Lubick said, "Great hire. He can take his players an beat you then he could take your players and beat you." Or some such bull****. My, how things have changed!

BTW, I love all these newbies who have come aboard. But not a one of them has brought me a beer and a sammich yet.

I actually think our playcalling has been pretty good on both sides of the ball. The talent is awful and I think people around the program knew that before the season started. That is why McCartney was constantly preaching patience with this staff.

I think our best, immediate hope is that one or both of the incoming QBs are, in addition to being huge talent upgrades, tremendous, willing, and unwavering leaders who are genuinely looked up to by the rest of the team. Not to dig on Hansen, but we need him to be a better leader as a senior starting QB, and he looked scared and confused for much of the game. We have no leadership on the field, players who will the team to wins.

On the show Wednesday night we will be discussing this topic at length and look forward to this boards input. I will have a new 2012 depth chart to discuss, I will post it on Tuesday or Wednesday. I will also discuss some of the areas that the staff is worried for next season...you will be surprised I think.

Agree. I expect us to be better next year.

On offense, we'll need a solid FB to step in for Harrington (maybe one of the LBs?) and we'll need to replace TH and Clemons. I think/hope that Wood is an upgrade from TH and with this year's recruiting class, plus McCulloch, Vincent and the other WRs, we should be ok without Clemons (although I do think Clemons is better than people give him credit for). I also expect to have an improved O-line even though we'll lose Miller. I wouldn't be surprised to see both Nembot and Asiata as starters.

On defense, we should be solid. We'll lose Obi, Hartigan, Perkins and Cunningham, but we get all the other starters back, right? As long as either T Smith, Washington, Harlos or a true frosh can step in for Perkins we should be ok at safety. Bonsu should step in nicely for Obi. We'll also have Jered Bell back from injury, Greg Henderson with a year under his belt, Parker Orms, Sherrard Harrington and maybe even Yuri Wright if we're really lucky.

As for this year, it's really hard to say. I just hope we play with heart since I genuinely think we can hang with everyone except maybe Stanford and Oregon.
