This year we have a large Senior Class with 25 on scholarship. Assuming that we have some attrition, I expect that CU is going to have 30 to 32 scholarships open I have no idea of how they are going to fill them. Next year the Senior class is very small ~10 meaning the team will be the dreaded "very young" again in 2012. I hope I am wrong but I think we are looking at a 3 year project at least.

I am starting to wonder how long I can wait...I am getting older.

I was looking at the roster too. The really sad thing is that many of the Sr.'s are the main contributors, and I don't think there is much behind them in the Jr. and So. classes. Next year might be even worse than this year.

2012 is going to be rough. We may get a few more wins with an easier schedule, but it'll still be rough. Looking at 2013 with young players leading the charge. Hawkins burned this program to the ground. Embree's got to put out the fire and clear some of the dead wood before he can start rebuilding.

I honestly think things will be much better next year.

Embree has already cut a ton of dead weight at the start of this year. Losing the senior class and the the attitude that was hammered into them by DII can only help. I really like the attitude that has been displayed by the freshmen & some of the sophomores. I think the younger guys have bought into the coaches message much better than the seniors.

Breaking down the team

QB- should be much improved with better passing options
RB - Lose Speedy, but overall I think the position improves with more size coming in
WR- Still have PRICH and the incomming class should be great
TE- Existing players learning the system and some good looking freshmen coming in
OL- We can't block anyone now, it can only get better-Although we need some more recruits in the next class

DL- Should be better-Quality DT SIZE committed.
LB- Rippy is a beast but need some others to step up
CB- So hurt and thin now, how can it not improve
DB- See CB

K- First time in 5 years that I don't close my eyes during a FG try.
P- Another year of experience can only help

I still think we need to land around 25 players in the next class. I would love if we could get 3-4 JUCO transfers to fill the gap this team has with the junior class

We need JuCo help, but of course we always get ****ed when trying to get jucos in, so who knows.

2012 will depend a lot on how we finish out this class at certain positions, along with staying healthy. I am not sure we get a whole lot worse by graduating so many seniors, but the depth is still crap.

It will be interesting to see how the non-conference schedule shakes out. We have CSU down in Denver again, an open date, and then a game at Fresno State. Wondering if we can do anything about that Fresno game, but at the very least, the current open date needs to be a cupcake. Plus we will actually get five home games in conference play next season and some of the road games are not exactly going to be daunting (Arizona, Wazzu). Not saying we will be championship contenders or anything, but if we can get anything out of Connor Wood, we might take a couple steps forward.

This team with or without srs. is very lacking in talent. Replacing srs. with fr. isn't going to help that problem right away although I agree with GoBuffs08 in his assessment. We will go from a weak experienced team to a weak young team.

With all that it may be a blessing in disguise. A lot of the young talent at least gives us the hope of a higher ceiling in time.

The bigger issue is that Embrees biggest challenge with this team is not talent but attitude. Losing a huge number of seniors means that we will be losing a whole bunch of the players who have ingrained the acceptance of losing that got us into this situation in the first place. By changing over a significant part of the roster the coaches will have a better chance to change expectations and mindset.

i think we will be better next year, even if younger.

I think we have some talent that redshirted this year that will be a huge benefit to us next year, plus we have some very good talent committed to us right now that will come in and immediately make an impact.

One other thing to watch as this season plays out is which true freshmen will come into their own toward the end of the season. If we can get just a few of them like Vincent, Parker, and maybe Asiata to solidify themselves as potential starters heading into the offseason, things look a lot better.

 I do NOT want to play David Carr's younger brother. Dude looks good.

And asiata needs to start getting reps on offense since we burned his RS.

I'm really tired of speculating and wondering if our Buffs will be good again. It's exhausting and I don't have time for it. I just want to be able to root for my team and get excited about the outcome....or at least NOT embarrassed.

Really? Did that just happen last game? I don't recall seeing him anywhere, but I wasn't really looking either.

Edit: If so, I totally agree. He'd better be getting at least 15 plays a game then.

Just curious..........and tell me if I'm wrong but there aren't any younger guys on the roster there now that aren't hugnry enough to get their feet wet now?

I'm thinking we'll be seeing some of that in the coming weeks. Totally my opinion, though, not based on any actual information from the team.

of course! they are playing a ton of young guys and some of them are playing pretty well, considering their lack of experience. and, they have redshirted a bunch of guys who have the goods, but they want to save and let develop.

for example-- greg henderson is a great story-- the guy is already our best corner and he's a true frosh. greg brown puts guys into the league and is one of the best db teachers around. by the time greg is a senior, if he keeps developing, working, and stays healthy, he'll be on all-conference lists.

there is hope. it is just that we were all hoping for a smoother transition from the old regime to the new. that doesn't look like it can happen, so there are going to be some rough patches.

Yup. And most of them are already playing . We have already burned the RS on half the frosh class. That is a big #. I think 6 or more have started. That is also a big #. Especially given the hurried nature of the last class, and even not considering it, there are only so many guys that at 17 or 18 that are ready to play a large amount of snaps in BCS football. Just adjusting to College is hard enough for most of us .

That said, Juda had a surprise start over our best DE, Uzo-Diribe, last week. Asiata is getting reps and should get more playing time. Harlos and Washington, both safeties, should start getting more time, especially with Perkins on a bum knee. Those that shine will keep playing. Daigh got snaps early in the season, and didn't do to well, and Rippy has really come on so its tough for him to get snaps in close games.

Not sure who else will play. There were about 8 guys mentioned to Embree a week ago and it was suggested he pull their RS, and he emphatically said no. I think we are reaching the bottom of the barrel as far as true frosh ready to contribute.

Edit: And AZ over at buffscoop reported that Vincent, a WR, has been starting to come on in practice. He also has burned his RS, and iwth Cefalo down, could see time this week.

Good post Snow.

I'm excited that the freshman Embree recruited in a month and a half are contributing more than DII recruits from 3 years ago. When DII arrived his biggest successes were with the players that he inherited, and as they graduated he did nothing to fill the void. Embree's & CO's early ability to evaluate talent at least has given me reason to be optimistic. With his next class of around 25 players I think we will finally start seeing some of the needed play makers we have lacked, but also a huge improvement to our depth.
