OK! You guys know you are family already. So it is here I am coming to vent as a fan only. WTF!

Was checking out the threads on another site and came across one with this title:

Talent = Thugs, Gangsters, Convicts, Felons...

As I dug deeper I saw there were not only one but 2 confused souls posting in this thread and I just had to comment. The thread took a turn south (didn't think it was possible) when the 2nd fan said that recruiting needs to get back to the ghettos and the not 2 parent households to pick up hungry kids that have talent. Now while I understand where this is coming from I can't believe that folks really think that the greatest athletes can only be thugs, gangsters, convicts, and ghetto children with single parent homes. I really thought were were in 2011! While I know fans are desperate to have this team get back to greatness going the ignorant route isn't going to cut it! There are talented kids at every level and walk of life. Looking for the best TALENT and the smartest player at their position should be the priority, regardless of where they come from. Just in shock that people have stressed themselves into making dumb statements. Especially, i'm assuming that they have never been to a ghetto. :bang:

See, there's your problem. Don't go to other sites.

I actually know which place you're discussing because I saw that thread myself and honestly, I wouldn't give it a second thought. The posters saying the things that are upsetting aren't exactly highly thought of in the CU community. Every family has its members that they're ashamed of. They're ours unfortunately.

I don't have access to the premium sites but I hope you don't think all CU fans think along those lines because it is definitely not true.

I agree with you.

Moett88, just to give a little bit of context, our former head coach once made a comment about stressing two-parent households in recruiting. It rubbed a lot of people the wrong way because as you say, talent comes from all backgrounds.

Cracking me up! I'm an information super freak...........so I like to mix it up every now and then. Normally would've laughed it off and kept moving but sometimes in desperate situations people open up to be their true selves and this is bad, pretty much because they may've been saying what someone else was too shy to put out there.

Honestly this is GOING to be a tough year. Anyone that thought a new coaching staff was going to come in after a few weeks with a team that has been conditioned for years under someone else and wave a wand and make it alright was kidding themselves. I heard that many did not take kindly to what Coach Embree said after the last game. But what's funny........that speech has been given to many of our high schoolers a few years ago as hopefully a motivator to say you will change when you get tired of losing. Aren't you tired of losing. Football is a rough sport period. It is a gladiator sport that is a few steps up from boxing. Its brutal and can only be won by the mentally tough. If any player assumed that they should win a free 4 year ride into a sport that generates as much revenue as it does, they are on a different planet. You have to compete DAILY and stay hungry or you will get eaten alive physically as well as mentally. Some may not be ready for this change.

But saying what was said above is a borderline issue that they may not be ready to cross. That is why so many violations are popping up all over the place now. Predators with the same mentality going into neighborhoods they normally wouldn't be caught dead in after 7pm to find that next diamond and sell them a dream while taking advantage and using them for cash cows. And in the end some would've been better off staying where they were and not knowing there is another life out there if its only gonna be taken away on the 6 o'clock news because they weren't savy enough to know better. There was just more behind the message than even the poster knew and they need to be careful.

Not at all.........I just have to call folks on the things they say sometimes so they will think. I posted over there too.

Moett, I hope to god you weren't on netbuffs. That place will give you migraines and nightmares.

Where were you to explain this to me in August? You could have saved me a lot of pain...

That's like saying Beetlejuice three times. You have almost certainly stirred a sleeping evil...

Well, I wasn't expecting a magical season.... But I sure wasn't expecting a season where we went from 12 CBs to one. Embree is exorcising a LOT of bad juju this year.

Recruiting Thugs, Gansters, etc. = UMiami's current predicament.

EXACTLY! LOL! I watched a really good 30 for 30 on the U the other day and so many good players did come out of there and they did some crazy stuff........but what was funny is some of those players took that same crap to the NFL. I was pretty shocked at some of the things. What was even funnier is I've always been a Cowboy fan but never got into the history of it, just liked the games. My favorite coach has always been Jimmy...........I had alot of questions answered finding out he coached at the U!

I am soooo with you. I take deep offense to those ignorant narrow-minded ignoramusses who confuse toughness and leadership with being a socio-path. It is like saying that the armed forces should recruit more murderers because they are really good at killing. It totally takes the character issues out of the game. Coach Embree understands the difference folks. We need young men of character to get us out of this rut. Men of character are not sociopathic criminals. We will get our recruits out of big cities, suburbs, small towns and anywhere we can find tough young men with work ethics and moral standards. Coach Mac used to say that "football does not build character, it EXPOSES it."

Sigh, and they said OL were the smartest guys on the field...

Yeah.......cause please believe I've had to turn off the t.v. a few times in the pain...........only to pick up my phone and follow the scores on the ESPN mobile site. LOL. But I know it will get better.......but may not this year. I think someone said on another post might be 2013......that's what I'm thinking only because of the 2011 kids will get some work in next year and the stars will emerge from there......and the 2012 kids will get some summer work to see if they can get on the field too. Please believe I am currently part of a rebuilding HS program and it took a few years. And I had to have tough skin to get to this point...........and its still a fight as a fan.

So, if we had our choice, who are more talented? Thugs? Gangsters? Convicts? Felons? Actually, wouldn't Felons fall under the Convicts category. I'd say I'd go for Thugs. I remember that Pat Bowlen, OTOH, prefers Convicts. :wink2:

Socio paths! Classic! LOL!

Really I'd go gangsters..........need SMART players and gangsters are hustlers for their monies (even scholly monies). LMBO!

Apologies for the redundancy and really, spell check has forever ruined me as a manual editor. As far as the hyphenated sociopath reference, I just like it better. It kind of draws it out in an aesthetically pleasing way. Call it prose for the early-onset dimensia sufferer. : )

Young Mishugana......
:facepalm::facepalm:

Really can't believe the people on that site sometimes or the people who post that **** and blame Embree for everything.

I know folks hate to lose, as I am one. But when you get to the point of this kind of desperate outreach folks will start do do anything which usually makes things worse.

That's pretty funny!
