Time to play Hirschman (a little)

Not as a starter, but let's get this kid some minutes during mop-up time. Start grooming Hirschman for next year. I'd expect he's your #1 or #2 next year and you really want to get some plays under his belt. Same with a lot of other positions, but QB most importantly.

I do worry about coming into next year with our QBs having a total of zero actual game snaps.

He has already used his RS year so it won't cost any eligibility. If we are in a situation where the game is not on the line makes sense to get him in.

Connor wood will be our started next year. heard somethings

Not a guarantee, didnt like what i saw from Texas spring game. Should be an interesting battle during spring ball, . Both QB can sling the ball, and they tall QB,not the typical midgets we are used to at QB over the last 5 years. May the best player win, but Hirschman got the advantage, he has more experience in the offense.

Wood is the starter next season. Guarantee.

Hirschman has exactly one spring in this offense where he was getting second team reps. That is it (he missed most of the fall practices with injury). That really is not much of an advantage at all.

Connor Wood will be the starter. It will become clear pretty quickly too.

Hey can i get the winning numbers to the next lottery. I like how you guys can gauarantee things like this. But i must say the evidence don't support your guarantee. Wood struggled at the Texas spring game, he was buried on the depth chart , had to transfer, the texas spring game is on espn3.com. Hirschman took second team reps, Wood took 3rd team reps at Texas. Hirschman got the new playbook in January, has being through all the meetings, spring practices, valuable experience, he is more advanced in the offense and has gotten reps, valuable reps at spring ball, can't discount that. But i must say may the best player win.

Stop with the Spring Game analysis. The 3rd team at Texas would run our 2nd team (and probably our 1st team at this point) off the field. If Embree was so confident in Hirschman, then why did he bring in a transfer in the same class?

Who knows, Nick will get an opportunity to compete, but I think the writing is on the wall.

I agree. He needs to have some game time experience, either in a mop up or a blow out. He will probably have a few of those opportunities in the next few weeks.

Wood was going up against the 3rd team defense at Texas, still didn't play well.

OK so we're basing his readiness to play at CU on his performance in a handful of snaps at another school's spring game - just want to make sure I understand how to evaluate QBs going forward.

And as I said before, Texas' 3rd team defense is far more talented than our 2nd team (and likely our 1st team too).

Obviously we don't take evaluation of spring game performances seriously enough. They really should be the only tool used to evaluate players.

There is only up-side to getting Hirschman some snaps in a mop up role. How are we even arguing about this?

I don't disagree with getting Nick some snaps this season - I mean did you see him at the spring game? Wow.

So a guy who was 4th string behind Garrett Gilbert is going to be Colorado's starting QB. Fantastic. Does Colorado ever want to win at football again?

I say put him in this weekend. He grew up 30 minutes away so I'm sure it would be quite the honor to play in front of friends and family.

I didnt catch the spring game, that said:

-What good is leaving Tyler in to get injured when we are down 3+ scores mid-way through the 4th?

-What is better a QB with some game experience headed into next year or no QBs at all with game EXP?

-Having a back up who's seen a little game action or none if Tyler gets injured?

There is literally no down side to getting Nick in a game if it gets out of hand.

Agree, which means Hirschman could see action in nearly every game left on the schedule.

Actually, I was quite surprised that Hirschman didn't see the field in the 4th qtr at OSU. If not then... when? With as many injuries as this team has suffered in the past few years, it is only a matter of time before it is the QB again. Having a back-up that has seen the field outside of a practice setting should be considered a good thing.

The problem is this team doesn't really have 'mop up time'....with games going down to the wire and into OT etc...

RIGHT NOW... it appears that Connor Wood will be the starter next year. That said, Hirschman and the team can only gain from getting him reps this season and trying to prepare him as much as possible for a good QB competition through the spring and fall.

Get him a series here and there... some mop up or garbage time (probably the latter in ever case)... give him a full shot in the last game or two of the year if he shows he's up to it.

I don't think there is a downside. Give Hirschman playing time if the right situation presents itself.

Not sure why you guys write Hirsch off in favor of Wood. Clearly Hansen got the job because the prevailing sense was to right the wrong done by Hawkins regime.

This post makes my head hurt.

Obviously you weren't paying attention to the politics at UT. Remember Simms/Applewhite? The vast majority of UT fans on the message boards were royally bummed when they heard he was transferring. Plus the dude was a HUGE recruit out of high school. Come on pull your head out...
