Would have liked to have seen Hirschman more. And Wood?

Glad they got him in there for a couple handoffs and that one throw but Tyler should have sat the entire 4th. The game was no longer in doubt about mid way through the 3rd. At that point, we need to pull Tyler to play another day and give the #2 some chances to throw the ball, maybe even that last drive should go to the #3.

At any rate, I know Wood cant play this year, but I assume he is running the scout team in practice. Any word on how he is doing? I know everyone is hoping for Dillon next year but a true frosh starting isn't something to rely on.

The difficulty in pulling the starter before the 4th quarter is when you've inherited the majority of your players from a regime that learned to quit when it was clear they weren't the most talented on the field. Teaching the team to keep fighting and earn some respectability for the uniform they're wearing is tough when most aren't used to it and by now only one or two have been in uniform to witness a road win in their college career. I saw Hirsch enter the game the series after Stanford put their backup in and I agree with the timing of it. Had it been a blowout from the 1st quarter and Stanford calls off the dogs in the 3rd then in a similar sporting interest I would have played Hirschman after they had signaled mercy. Regardless, I think we're gonna see several more opportunities for him in a game, though hopefully not because of an injury to Hansen. For a season that's more about learning what you are than getting to a bowl game I think Tyler's earned the right to play himself out of the starter's role with poor performance rather than have the coaches say this is a lost season, let's see what the backup can do.

Wood was 4th team QB behind Garrett Gilbert, Case McCoy, and David Ash (a true freshman). Expecting big things from him is probably a mistake.

Anyone with a name with McCoy in Austin is a God. Gilbert got benched. Ash has split time with McCoy. Everyone keeps telling you the politics n Austin but you never listen. UTerus switched to a Boise State offense, and Wood doesn't seem like a spread offense QB.

agreed. A 4th stringer off a 5-7 team is probably not gonna do it. Then again 5-7 is light years better than our current team on life support in the midst of a power outtage.

Have you paid attention to the QB drama at Texas through the years? The best guy is not always on top of the depth chart in Austin. Also Wood was one of the top QB's coming out of HS 2 classes ago. He was a ****ing true freshman last season for crying out loud!

Wood had offers from Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Nebraska.

The guy was still young in his short career in Austin, but there is a reason he had offers from so many great programs. Plus the guy is smart, tall, athletic, and can run and throw.

He could be a difference maker for us.

Seems weird to bury a player who will be a RS-Sophomore next season, using his position on the UT depth chart as your only justification.

Past performance is the best indicator of future performance. HS doesn't count.

And Wood doesn't have past performance. There is a reason why you go after the best HS players though. Wood was one of those. His career was young, still is.

I really like how you ignore what everyone posted about Texas.

What's to ignore? That things get political when it comes to playing QBs at Texas? No ****? You mean Major Applewhite was really a better QB than Chris Simms? You mean Vince Young was really a better QB than Chris Simms? No! You must be ****ting me!

Conspiracy theory is one thing. 4th string is something else. Garrett Gilbert is transferring out of Texas. Case McCoy shares reps with a true freshman. Do you think if Wood was still at UT he would be getting snaps now?

Conner Wood might wind up being the next ****ing John Elway for all I know. But until he shows something, he's just another transfer.

Wood would be behind McCoy but keep telling yourself that. Are you even an CU fan? There's a reason the likes of OU, NU, UT, Bama, Missouri, Stanford, Notre Dame, aTm, Arizona, etc recruited him.

And I don't think anybody is saying he is GOING to be the next Peyton Manning. People are just excited to see him play because we haven't had a QB as talented as Wood since probably Koy Detmer.

Ya he's got a lot to prove, but there is more reason to be excited than to be a downer on the guy.

I think there is a decent chance he would have gotten snaps at some point this season, either through injury or poor play of Ash/McCoy.

While I understand what you are saying with your last sentence, any QB transfer is not "just another transfer," especially with our current QB depth chart.

Things are political in Texas, I know that cause I lived there for 19 years. Gilbert was Mack's guy, end of story. You dont have to be a Texas fan to know that.

Players on the team think that Connor Wood is really legit. And they have seen him more than any of us. I'm going to tust them and pray that they are right but I think a better QB would make all the difference for this team.
