I'm sick of officiating

At the 8:26 mark we were called for a hit out of bounds. BS! Then, at the 8:08 mark Stanford was called for a personal foul. Again, BS. I'm sick of these subjective calls the NCAA forces officials to make. I get protecting the players but come on. Remember the Roughing the QB against Cal? Ridiculous. The new rules almost ruin the game.

As an example, Speedy was hit about a yard OB at the 6:43 mark. Way later than the call on us. But Stanford got nothing. Then Handler was called for a phantom holding call at 5:20 which killed a big play. Instead of a first down, we have to punt. They get the ball in good field position and score. 27-7. Total BS officiating.

Certainly didn't cost us the game and my beef isn't even with this game. I am seeing this crappy officiating all over the place and it ruins the game.

I think in general officials do the best they can. The past several years with the development of spread offenses and fast paced teams, the "skill" of the officials has not kept up with the "skill and speed" of the players.

Every one of Polk's personal fouls have been good calls. I think he has 4 or 5

What do you think goes through his mind as he continues to make those stupid plays? And they aren't even close, they are usually a solid 2-3 yards out of bounds and he lays the guy out. I am pretty sure if we had any depth back there he would be sitting his ***** down. Wake up!

DBT, brother. Ray Polk seems to think you can hit a receiver when he is 3 yards out of bounds. I really do not understand what is going on in his head. I guarantee you that if we had anybody to back him up, Embree would probably sit him until he gets the whole concept of "out of bounds" figured out.

I don't like how every good hit where someone is knocked off their feet is a personal foul. Should to chest, decleat a guy with the ball - you get a personal foul every time. Dive at the knees without wrapping up - perfectly legal.

I replayed it over and over. The guy was not three yards OB.

BTW, toward the end with about 8:30 to go on 4th and 2 we hit a slant that might hav scored but we were called for jumping off side or illegal motion. I played it frame by frame. The ball was snapped before we moved.

My beef with officiating isn't specifically about CU. I see horrible officiating in almost every game I watch. The calls I hate the most are the subjective personal foul calls. How often do you see a guy going after a QB, the QB throws it a split second before the rusher arrives, the rusher has all of his momentum going and he hits the QB and gets the roughing call? I guess the defensive guy is supposed to anticipate the throw ahead of time and start backing off as soon as the QB starts his throwing motion.

So this is what it has come to.

The worst call of the weekend was the call in the Buckeye-Nub game where Martinez got hit like any other player would get hit if he was running the ball 10 yards downfield, yet the ref decided to treat him like an NFL QB and call a bull**** personal foul. It wouldn't have mattered, seeing as how Bausermann is the worst QB ever (why oh why did Fickel have to start Miller against us instead of that stiff?), but it just underscores to me how the subjective part of the game anymore is way out of hand. When referees start to call fouls based on the player that is hitting/getting hit, instead just looking at whether or not a foul is being committed, things start to spiral out of control.

I believe strongly that most referees go into a game - especially a game like we had last weekend - with a pretty clear idea of who's going to win. I mean, who wouldn't, when this CU team goes to play that Stanford team? But when you start injecting heightened subjectivity into a situation like that, the team that is more likely to win is going to get the benefit of the doubt the majority of the time. We've got to get back to the point where a foul is a foul is a foul. There's always going to be some subjectivity as long as people are officiating the games, but if you review the referee's performances strictly by whether a foul was committed, not by who was fouled by who, maybe we can get more objectivity into the games. Maybe that will end up with some of the QBs being subjected to more contact, but **** - it's football.

The Bronco game yesterday might have been a better example to illustrate your point...

Polk has been given the green light to send a message? What message might that be? We get penalties like Miami-FL, but play like Miami-OH?

I might have to retract this if I find out Miami OH beat Toledo in the recent past.....

I think it's actually more of a friendly reminder to the other team that they shouldn't bother to run out of bounds. We'll will miss the tackle and take the wrong angle if you're in bounds, but once you go out of bounds and stop running, we'll hit the **** out of you.

I've been a little disappointed in the lack of consistency with the Pac 12 referres myself and IMO they lost that Cal game for us, or caused at least a four point swing in OT in Cal's favor.

Is that message, "I am an idiot who keeps making the exact same mistake in every game."

At least the kid is willing to hit somebody. Too many kids on the team seem a little pensive about contact. Now if we can just get him to make those hits in bounds, we might be getting somewhere.

I still think the call on Polk was BS. I wish I hadn't erased the game. Speedy was hit way further OB and got no call. Thats what is frustrating. The inconsistency. It makes it seem like the officials have an agenda when, in fact, they just suck.
