Video board

We've talked about it before, but holy **** both of those are pieces of crap.

I don't remember them failing so bad, but the green line on the north one and the moving black boxes on the south one were total amateur hour during the WSU game.

When are they replacing those ****ers? They might not even work by next year.

I don't know which is worse, the boards or the PA system. It sounds like we lean a microphone up against a 1980s style boombox.

If the AD decides to sell the naming rights to Folsom, I think the first order of business would be to replace both boards so ( insert name ) could proudly display their name and logo

I'm pretty sure the video boards are slated to be improved/replaced after this season

I know of a company that has been contacted by the athletic department regarding a new control room to be put in and to be completed by next August. A family member works for said company. That new control room is to run the video for new boards as well as production feeds. I'm betting these new video boards go in for the start of next season! ;-) We can only hope they do the sound system with them!

I was at the game and took a picture of the boards when that green line was going through it. So terrible. Better than the spring game when the board wasn't even working though!

Nice scoop JRod!

My question is this: Are we going to upgrade, or simply replace? They need to be quite a big bigger as well

The one in the North end zone was supposed to be a lot bigger. Hope it happens.

Regarding the sound system, I just want a good one but I don't want overkill like I saw at Stanford. They had speakers about every 10 feet and the noise from the PA eclipsed the crowd noise. To me, that's not a college atmosphere. Don't be piping in music and using sound effects like that. Find the balance. If you want to blow the place out, then mic up the band.

With new video boards you can partition parts of the screen to show different things. So there is a good chance the overall board on the north end will stay the same size, but the actual screen will be the entire width of what we see currently. What adds time and huge cost is steel work. If you have to modify the structure for the boards that will increase cost so we may not see a bigger overall board. Not sure what they plan to do for the south board.

From what I know, these will be nice upgrades. I would also factor in new ribbon board to be under the new video boards as well.

Cool. Thanks JRod. Let us know if you hear anymore scoop that you can share with us

Ill keep you all posted for sure. I have anxiously been awaiting these to be done for a very long time! The manufacturer of the boards that are currently in Folsom has been out of business for years. We knew this had to happen soon!

i agree. i think football is a game that is played outdoors. and when the sounds from the game are those designed to marketing and "crowd psychology" that come out of speakers...eclipse those of the band or whatever....we might as well be the NBA selling a "product" instead of shoulder to shoulder.

CU ain't about your "entertainment dollar"....imo.

Stanford has a very small band that doesn't make much noise all on it's own. The atmosphere in that stadium is pretty sterile, so they obviously decided they needed to do something to spice it up.

Their scoreboards/video boards are pretty awesome, though. I think you'd have to admit that.

I absolutely loved what they've done to their stadium. I really appreciated them adding chair backs to their bench seating, too. Really nice place to watch a game.

Another thing I noticed is that it looked like they had an outdoor party pavilion on the roof of their luxury boxes. If so, that's pretty sweet. Would be a cool thing to do with Balch when that gets re-done.

And that's how I know you're old.
shut the **** up you little ****head... not everyone stands... get the **** over it... are you gonna challenge peoples fandom for not standing every down... you gonna tell them to root else where... shut the **** up you dumbass

Someone not use lube today? Or did your mom forget to give you your bottle before nap time?

Damn straight. I want chairbacks and cup holders installed everywhere in Folsom except the student section.

Edit: Aren't you always complaining about the quality of the bleachers in the student section?

Would that be the sound system that played the train whistle that could blow the hat off your head? I also thought it was a bit much. But when you have a team as good as that, it doesn't matter if you get the extras right (e.g. tree races.)

Their scoreboard was great though. Loved seeing stats that updated after each play without a ton of extra fluff---although I could have done without knowing that we had 1 yard rushing well into the 3rd quarter.

Overall the stadium is a major improvement over the old structure. With Cal and others also improving their facilities, I'm glad to hear that CU is doing something to make improvements in the near term.

I hope its a bit bigger. A couple of years ago they put out the "Glory Colorado" PDF which is under the "Creating Futures" fundraising campaign and it had the basketball practice facility in it and a new video board for Folsom. According to the document, the current scoreboard on the north side is 27' x 20.5' and the new board would be 54' x 34'. I'm hoping this is still the case because that would be awesome.
