Mizzou to SEC

Good for them. Although Tigers playing against Tigers is a little odd. Does that automatically make it a rivalry?

In the early '90s, with the Big Eight on the verge of collapse, Missouri pushed to join the Big Ten and a group of state business leaders even formed a lobbying group.

Does anybody else remember the Big Eight's near collapse? I don't.

Sure, don't you remember.

The Big 8 was in big trouble until Texas brought in the calvary and saved us by forming the Big 12

Oooooh, it's all coming back. They were saving us from all of those conference national championships in football. Now I remember!

And reports that Houston was invited to Big East. If there will even be a Big East to join is the real question.

If the SEC would get Clemson and Memphis they could just have a Tiger Division almost.

Anyway, Missouri, have fun being another Kentucky, Arkansas, or Mississippi in the SEC!

I still maintain that the Big 10 would have been a more appropriate home for them. Alas, the Big 10 didn't seem to want them for some reason. Shortsighted, if you ask me.

In related news, the resurrection of the Southwest Conference continues.

If true, good for Mizzou to get away from the new SWC. Always thought they were a good fit for the B10, but maybe they didn't want to wait around any longer for an invite? Gonna be a rough road for them in the SEC though..

Mizzou will be a big get for the $EC, 2 of the biggest TV markets in the midwest in KC and St. Louis.

If I were the Big 12, I'd make a serious play for BYU and Memphis.

Supposedly there was a lot of interest in BYU originally -- but BYU refused to budge on their Sunday stance, and wanted significant guarantees re: time on television, which the Big 12 was not willing to provide.

Unless there are concessions on both sides, I do not think BYU will be in the mix.

Additionally, I don't think the Big 12 wants to expand in TWO directions. There were plenty of problems with Colorado being in the league, and the difference in times between Mountain and Central time zones. The Big 12 is either going to expand EAST (Louisville, West Virginia, Cincinnati) or WEST (BYU, Air Force, Boise) but not both directions.

I'd like to see the Big XII get back to 12 teams, and maybe bring Rice, Houston and SMU on board. That would bring up their numbers in the short term, and then in the future they can consider concentrating on quality more than just the number of teams and they could jettison a few...maybe get rid of the two Kansas teams and Iowa State. They should probably take a good look at Oklahoma and OSU too, and see if they're the right fit.

I don't think there is a whole lot of interest in going to 12 teams.

10 teams makes the pot larger for all of the teams in the conference, and makes the road to the BCS championship easier for OU and Texas.

I guess there is some language in the TV contract with Fox that specifies that they keep 10 teams, at a minimum.

It makes me sad that you thought I was serious.

I think maybe I should have a special font for when I'm not being sarcastic.

Gee Walrus, I think your suggestion has actually been tried before.... maybe you need to add another element.... like that conference should secede from the NCAA and have its' own National Championship on the Longhorn Network.....
