Grade the coaches. Who needs to go?

It's time to evaluate coaches and decide who needs to go.

CU defense ranking out of 120:
#93 total defense
#85 pass defense
#87 rush defense

Greg Brown is not qualified to be a DC at this level. He hasn't earned his pay and should be gone next year. Oline is probably next. Upgrade coaches and talent first. Brown has zip for quality d-backs coming in next year for a reason.

The whole defensive staff stinks but Brown is the **** on top. We either need to get rid of one of our offensive coaches and add a defensive one or start cleaning it out.

Can't really judge given the fact of who they have to work with, or lack thereof.

Hate to say it, but Cabral may be on borrowed time. Aside from Rippy, the LBs have been dreadful and his recruiting is not up to par. He's the one coach who can't lay this all at the feet of the prior staff that left the cupboard empty.

Then recruit better players......so far, meh.
They've had less than one class to recruit, not sure what you mean by that if you're telling them to recruit better when they had 13 days with the last class and currently have some athletes that are tearing it up.

Not ready to toss anyone under the bus based upon the injury report that Nik posted. I thought Brown did a good job early in the season masking our weaknesses, but the man can only do so much.

Recruiting needs to improve for the entire staff however

No one's getting tossed aside after year 1 so just forget about it, but I do have my concerns about Brown and recruiting better pick up soon across the board.

Brown made a passing QB from Hawaii look like a Heisman running back candidate the first game of the season. He made no adjustments at the half and there was only one defensive injury at the time. I'm not buying it.

Not sure if serious.

I'm talking about the 2012 class. Our glaring needs are OL, DB, TE, DB, big Rbs, LB, and DB. It's one of the deepest OL classes in the west in years and so far...meh. Our only DB recruits so far are a smallish safety and a kid playing RB for his HS team this year, and we have a head coach that was an NFL TE and coached the position in the NFL, yet our TE recruiting so far is meh.

It's a long way until february and landing a wes brown, or McNamara will help, but so far recruiting is not living up to the hype IMO.

Not going to happen and based on the injuries and the fact that this staff has been together for 8 games, it should not.

Heads must roll. With the talent and veteran secondary we have, any idot should be able to hold down Oregon with a decent game plan.

Greg Brown has no track record as a DC. I get we don't have talent in secondary, but when i watch the defense it seems like the OC is outhinking our DC on majority of plays. Washington scored 5 times on there first five pocession. Oregon scored 29 points in the first half. Even with a bad secondary that is bad defense, there is no excuse in football. The defense is too predictable schematically.

These guys are bat-**** crazy. If we want to guarantee that we will suck forever, start by ensuring there is 0 continuity on the coaching staff. I think maybe they need to to go back to their tents on Wall Street and consider what they are protesting. : )

CU lacks defensive talent across the board. I get that we have new coaches, but it seems as though OCs are able to leverage their advantage on speed and size on nearly every play. Washington scored 5 times on there first five pocessions. Oregon scored 29 points in the first half. Even with a bad secondary that is bad defense, there is no excuse in football. The defense is too small and slow.

Fixed. My point is that talent can be as easily leveraged as schemes. Talent allows you to do more things schematically as well. I'd argue that it's far too early to make a ruling on Coach Brown.

It's just ridiculous that we don't have better coaches. Experienced DCs are just lining up to leave LSU, Alabama, Wisconsin, and other top 10 teams to come in and work with our outstanding talent, high salaries, and great job security.

To start calling for coaches heads at this point is beyond stupid. I don't care what scheme you run if you don't have corners who can cover, LBs who can get to the ballcarrier and make a tackle and DL who can control the line of scrimmage and pressure the passer you don't stop teams from scoring. On the other side of the ball same applies.

How many of the guys we put on the field against Oregon would have started for Oregon, or even been in the 2-deep for that matter, same with Stanford? We don't even have many guys who would play for Washington right now.

You can blame Brown and Cabral for recruiting but Hawkins ran the show and ran recruiting into the ground. This is going to take some time to turn around.

Now if we are not seeing improvements by the end of next year and some significant reason for hope the following year then you can start to discuss the issue but right now the idea is flat out idiotic.

Nobody is going anywhere. That's crazy talk. We all knew this was going to be a brutal year. It wouldn't have mattered who was coaching any of the positions. We were going to be awful this year.

Puhleeze...Greg Brown has very little to work with on the back end of the D and did what anybody else would have done...pressured and blitzed. You leave those guys back there and they WILL get burned. Problem is, there are not enough playmakers on the D. Rippy, Obi, Pericak at times, that is about it. Hartigan is active, Uzo Diribe is coming along nicely. The DB's lost Bell and Harrington before the year even started. Between ganja, injuries and the kum by ya attitude HaLk taught, I don't know how in the world you think Greg Brown was going to waltz in and turn CU into a top 20 D. The idea of canning coaches after one year is pretty stupid IMO.

We should try to get Venebles from OU to be our DC. His defense lost 4 starters and only gave up 38 at home. Imagine what he could do with a defense missing 5 starters... and their backups... and some of their backups!

With mike stoops available for the 2012 season, it will be interesting to see if Venebles is back next year as OU's defensive coordinator. (if he is - he might just be "co-coordinator" with Stoops)

True. I'd like to see how a "real coordinator" deals with the "we just lost Lockridge and Espinoza at CB, and that is a really bad thing" issue.

Let me weigh in on this thread with the thought that anyone who wants someone fired after 8 games with these injuries and this talent needs to slow down, think of a dead cat or something, and switch positions before they get all premature and really ruin it.
