Interesting Embree comments on the Seniors

SENIORS DROP IN ON EMBREE: After Saturday's loss, Embree said he asked the team's seniors to ponder their final five games and tell him on Monday how they wanted to end their CU careers. He said "a few have come by" his office, but he declined to say what the players and their coach discussed. "I'll let them speak about what it is they want, what they want to do and still want to accomplish," he said.
In his postgame message, Embree didn't mandate individual meetings or a group session with the seniors. "I wanted to see how they were going to do it . . . were they going to come as a group, as individuals?" he said. "But that's (as individuals) what it's looking like. They've been coming in."

Is anyone surprised the Seniors are not coming together? I'm not.

Wouldn't expect anything different from a group that's gone 14-30. Sure, they talk the talk, but the results speak for themselves (and yes, there are exceptions). You can put a ton of the blame on the previous coach, but not 100% of it.

I wonder if Miller told Embree that his goal was to win that national championship he promised way back when....

Sinkratz - I'm sure this is the first time Embo has met with the seniors about goals. Christ, get over yourself and at least throw out who you would rather have as a HC.

And I'm also giving positive rep to Creatini once a ****ing day because he and Nik are literally the only voices of reason around here. Anyone who says "fire Cabral" doesn't get it.

Little late for a meeting with Seniors about goals.

Umm if you had payed attention, Embree was referring to what goals he wanted them to establish now that a bowl game is not possible. Actually, a pretty good idea to me. As for the seniors, I am not going to dump on them. They may not be fondly remembered, but Hawkins failed these young men big time and is more to blame in my eyes than they are for what happened under their watch. I wish them nothing but the best.

When did I advocate firing Embree or Cabral? We've had a ton of injuries no doubt, but at some point there have to be glimmers of improvement and I haven't seen it yet from any position except possible PK. He'll get time to turn it around, but I'm tired of hearing how shi**t the talent here is - that's no secret and you fix that by recruiting and so far our recruiting has been mediocre.

As for Cabral, he seems to get a free pass because he's a Buff legend, that's great but his recruiting has been awful so far and he is partly responsible for the shi**y talent everyone seems to be complaining about. Rippy looked good before he went down, but beyond that the LBs have been disappointing since Dizon left. Mahnke is still getting serious playing time at LB, so explain to me how Cabral is immune from criticism.

Creatini as your voice of reason?? Good luck with that...no offense tini.

Thank you for clearing that up for me, I couldn't read it myself. I'm sure he's had meetings with the seniors before now, but with 5 games left in their career and a season where they are getting their brains beat in game after game it seems a little late for this. I'm not a coach, so maybe this will be the spark that lights a fire under them the rest of the way, it just seemed weird to me.

It may be harsh, but honestly, graduation will be a good thing for this team. HaLk infected these guys with the idea that losing is OK, and it appears many of them don't really hate losing...it appears they are quite OK with it. We have all seen they have had many of experience with it. Embo is doing a lot of the right things, but there appears to be a gigantic attitude problem. D II spent four years instilling the losing is OK mentality, it won't be pulled out of these guys in one year.

I feel bad for Miller. He bought D2's BS and look where it got him: pathetic, inconsistent, loser coaching. Hopefully he can get it together in the pros.

These seniors were all burned by a con man. I am not psyched by their play, talent or internal fire, but I'm going to cut them some slack personally since they were consistently fed D2's bull**** for four or so years. In the long run, probably a good learning experience for them, but it came at a high price.

Ok, when should he have asked his seniors to come forward and set goals for the time after they were bowl ineligible? Before the season? After the first game?

F**k Snow, look I'm not going to tell him how to coach, but at 1-7 it seemed odd. The seniors probably want to finish the season without getting hurt or being benched in order to get some looks for the freshmen. If we win a few games on the way out, super. I doubt that's the answer he wants though.

Just think - only 3 more years and all these Dan Hawkins recruits, who want nothing more in life than to LOSE every single football game they participate in, will have graduated / used up their eligibility.

This is a perfect example of making an argument using selective memory. Anybody who has followed this team knows that Embree has time and again challenged the seniors to make their mark on the program. So making a stupid statement like you did when you know exactly what Embree is doing is just being inciteful. Thanks for playing though.

So, you think our Coach should be telling players, BEFORE THE SEASON, to make plans for season goals they will still have AFTER they lose 7 games and are bowl ineligible?

Questioning the coach is stupid an inciteful...got it, thanks it won't happen again.

No, questioning the coach for stupid **** is. There's lots to choose from right now, and you're choosing to question him for inviting the seniors in to talk about what they want to get out of their last five games when making a bowl is not an option?

It is never too late to make goals, and it's a good lifelong skill to know how to reevaluate yourself and change your goals based on the current situation. Likely most goals set at the beginning of the year are unattainable now, so you must reassess and set new ones.

OMG! Embree wants the seniors to be accountable for their destiny?

Doesn't Embree get paid the big bucks to set goals on behalf of the seniors?

I mean, after all, if goal setting is tops down, then the seniors can have a convenient excuse to check-out now that a bowl game is out of reach.

I'm with sinkratz. These seniors shouldn't have any voice in the outcome of the rest of the season. Heaven forbid the seniors come together, show some leadership, and declare with one voice that the first road win since 2007 will happen on their watch.

No leadership from this class. If there was, they would have done it as a group.

I think that's the answer he did get from most of them and that's the point. Perhaps the seniors do have the attitude that "I want to get out healthy and if we win some games, super". Alternatively, how 'bout they say, "I want to put the home USC game as a red letter game, let's win it and really give the program some positive momentum for the younger guys next year".

The fact that they're just strolling into Embree's office in ones or twos points to the 'playing out the string' attitude. If they wanted to make a splash they'd get together on their own time and get this figured out as a group and lead this team. They're not.
