Colorado vs Creighton - Closed Scrimmage this Saturday

Any of you Buffalo insiders have any info about the scrimmage? Will you guys have any way of finding out how the scrimmage goes?

would love to attend but do like these closed scrimmages against a real team (as per team development) a lot more than playing some traveling bozo squad like there used to be "exhibition" games. just saying, this is a trend over the last few years around the game that makes sense....even if the fans don't get to go.

What is the reasoning for the scrimage being closed door? is it a NCAA rule thing? or is it to keep the compition from scouting your team?

It's an NCAA rule. I'm not sure if each team is allowed one closed door scrimmage or they can do as many as they want, but it tends to be just one per year, so I'm leaning towards that being a rule.

And I just figured there would be a few of you guys close to the program that could somehow talk with someone with information on the scrimmage. I'm pretty sure they don't even keep score. Was just wanting a bit of scoop on how the players do, etc.

We'll get a pretty complete report from various sources. I don't know if it will be something we can share or not.

Our AD actually hunts down and makes posters "disappear" if they do things like that.

RIP 87 and PB.

You can do at least 2 because were playing Northern Colorado a few days later

Coach Boyle essentially earned the job 2 years ago when he and UNC whupped CU in a closed door scrimmage. While no one else may have been keeping score, Bohn sure was.

I knew they beat them but I thought it was closer than you made it sound. Did Bz get the job because Air Force whopped CU in the keg?

I head that justification used a lot when his name was being bandied about back then. Bz was also a convenient 'name' coach in the region to 'show' that the AD was serious about improving basketball. That he made RP's last team look like fools was icing on the cake.

CU also faced Tad and UNC that season; Buffs only won by a bucket or two if I recall. Two future CU coaches rolled through Boulder that winter.

i think part of the scheduling allure of the closed scrimmages, with what Shocker says as clearly in the mix, is a coach gets to see his team up against quality/equal opponents without media/fan scrutiny. the kind you are going to see as equals down the road. that makes sense. so, coaches are into it more than playing the Lithunania B league champs in an "exhibition" game or some traveling group of 24 year olds sponsored by Athlete's First who have some guys who might not be making NBA rosters but are former NCAA players who can still ball a lot. the latter is lose-lose. that was the early season opener type deal when i was growing up and going to CU games.

edit: it was about the worst kept secret on planet earth that Tad's UNC team routed BZ's last CU team in one of these. Bz routed some decent teams that year (the year his holdover seniors from Joe Scott's recruiting class Zoomies waxed us), too. as i recall AFA beat Saint Mike Montgomery and Stanford by a ton as well. and that was a real shocker nation-wide.

that was a good AFA team. i still believe that was a crap coaching search...but we are where we are. we got Higgins and Burks was here and gone. we still haven't made the NCAA and finished last a bunch. i like Tad, so this isn't about that.

dammit, I need for CU to be halfway decent at SOMETHING this year.

It's pre-season. We should be aware of it, but it's early and Creighton is a good team. Arizona just lost to Seattle Pacific and they'll still be dancing.

I'm discouraged, but glad we lost. The young guys especially needed to be informed about the realities of college ball.
