I can live with this season, because I know the damage done giving Hawk an extra year

but...A large part of this staff's perceived strength when they were hired was their recruiting. I absolutely need to see this taking place this off season. We still have about half of the class to fill, and they are off to a solid start. Go out there and get some great recruits! I don't need a top 10 class, just show me that we are seriously upgrading the talent.

I suspect they will finish strong in recruiting. There is much to offer recruits, not the least of which is immediate playing time.

I can't - I hate losing and not even being almost competitive makes it suck even more.... I am so tired of losing and giving everyone a free pass.... this **** is not acceptable at most schools

Last night on 9news sports they finally called Hawkins out for leaving a team with zero talent. Even mentioned his burned to the ground.

Agreed. Looking at the next 2-3 years of player progression we need this class to bring in many impact players. Probably more than is normally reasonable for a recruiting class.

We look good at QB, RB, and WR which is great. Now we need a TE or two, another interior OL, 2-3 linebackers, and at least 3 more DL prospects, with 1 or 2 true NT as an essential "get".

So what should Embree's record be right now? Do you know any coaches who would have a better record with this team? If the talents is not there there is nothing they can do about it, period. I don't get why that is so hard for people to see. Talent is needed first.

His record should be 3-6, it's not hard to see wins over cal and wazzou at home.

I also don't think it's unreasonable to ask that while we get beat, we at least look like we belong on the field with the other team. I look forward to 2014 when we can look back and realize we we're all over-reacting, but I remember Hawks first couple season saying "Barnett left us with no talent, what is he supposed to do with this awful talent", and I remember feeling we would land some great recruiting classes because we had early playing time to sell. We've had early playing time to sell for a least 6 years now.

I get the sense that Embree expected that as well and he is pissed off, embarassed, and stressed out that his squad doesn't have more fight in them too. I think we could add up all the frustration and disappointment from every Buff fan on this board and it would probably come close to the frustration and disappointment contained within Embree and Bieniemy together. Mostly because the bleed Black and Gold and feel that they should be able to DO something about it.

I've been in jobs with co-workers and staff members that just would not get their ass in gear despite needing to change for the better, it is very frustrating and it is hard not to lose patience. I'm sure that pales in comparison to the current coaching staff at CU with a group of underperforming, badly motivated kids that just don't stack up talent wise. I love the kids, and the ones that have heart will always be a part of CU football, for better or worse. We just have too many apples that were allowed to rot and spoiled the bunch.

Having a top 10 class nationally this year is not going to even close to happen.

What we absolutely must have out of this class is a group of players who are competitive athletically and mentally in the PAC 12. What this season has shown us is the roster we have is simply not good enough to belong on the field with the teams we are playing. We are slower, smaller, weaker, and don't compete mentally and emotionally. We don't have room for a large number of guys who aren't going to contribute on this level.

Beyond that any guys who become difference makers are a bonus. I think that from the Texas WRs we have a chance to get at least one who makes opponents have to game plan against him. Dillon potentially could be a difference maker for us. Same could be said for Solis and the Irwin brothers.

Last year Embree and Bienemy managed to pull some rabbits out of the hat in just a few short weeks. I am hoping for the same this year and fairly confident that we will get some guys who make people take notice. Included in these possiblilities are Wes Brown, Taylor McNamara, and a top flight corner or LB and potentially another surprise out of Hawaii.

Most of the class will be mid-level recruits which will be a significant step up from what Hawk was bringing in. My concern is that there will still be some spots at the end of the class that will be filled by guys who are under the radar types or potential guys, not unlike Tyler McCollogh. We cannot afford these guys to take up space without being contributors. This team doesn't have enough talent to bring in more dead weight.

Cal and Wash St games were very winnable. I'm not giving a pass for Embree and his staff losing those games.

I have been all wrong about everything.

If we just fire all the coaches, fire Bohn, and turn the athletic program over to JimmyBuff we can have the National Championship next year, if not sooner!

Get a first down on offense and the game is over, but let's blame every loss on our injured secondary...

^^This^^

As well as if certain people had made some simple blocks on short yardage in the first half the lead would have been enough that a couple of big plays didn't matter.

Short yardage plays say a lot about a team. They are a lot less about what play is called or technique and a lot more about which guy has the heart and desire to win his battle. We had an opportunity to put the game away early and our guys didn't win those battles.

I don't think it's too much to ask for this team and coaches to compete better then they have. I said compete, not win. Getting clowned every week is getting old. I see teams with not much more talent than cu fighting and competing much harder.

Everyone knew what the end result would be after washington state up to this point but can't we get 1 game where the coaches coach em up and make the game competitive?

Do we have 1 trick play, a reverse anything? The defense is screwed in the secondary but where is the front 7? They should be better at stopping the run than what we're seeing.

Recruitng and embree bringing in his players is the battle cry, can he get the pac12 talent that we need if the team continues to get blown out the rest of this season and next year?

Embree gets my full support no question, some of the other coaches need a much better result next year.

I don't disagree with you about the desire to see guys go out and try to compete. I haven't seen anything that indicates to me that the coaches have in any way given up either.

The problem is that you don't change ingrained attitudes, especially resignation to defeat, like flipping a switch. Embree and the coaches are trying everything they can to draw out some fire and desire from a lot of these guys.

I would like to see more creativity on offense but again this is a bunch that doesn't even know how to line up right after the joke of a HC we had before, at least we aren't leading the nation in delay of game, illegal substitution and illegal formation penalties. We are getting a lot of other stupid penalties but at least they are penalties that require some effort rather than a lack of effort.

You as the legendary "lets go recruit some D-linemen" voice know as well as anyone that our front seven was overmatched before guys started getting hurt. I do see a lot of blitzes, stunts, etc. but by now other teams have figured us out and are ready for it.

Like you I support Embree entirely. I would also agree that if at the end of two years certain areas of the team aren't showing significant improvement then some jobs need to be evaluated. I just think it is ridiculous to panic this early. To do so is to not support Embree because it is saying that we don't trust his judgement in terms of staff.

We pretty much agree on most things with the program, the 'trust" thingy gets tested after these last 6 years

It wasn't just Hawkins. It was the culture of the athletic program and school administration as a whole. They decided CU was "going to do it right." They were determined to bring in "student athletes" to achieve a high grad rate. They wanted a bunch of good young men who would change the programs destroyed reputation. We have to decide what we want to be. We need bad asses, not choir boys.

That's just untrue. We brought in lots of guys that other people passed on because of character issues. See PRich and Katoa among others.

We can agree to disagree. Sure, we brought in a project or two. But, for the most part we avoided them. Remember, Katoa actually graduated early and PRich had the most serious charge reduced to a misdemeanor. And by all accounts, he was a good kid.

1st and goal from the 1 foot line yesterday told me all I need to know about this team.
