Facilities

they can make money by renting out - not an option here - due to a sunny and warm location, year round sports down there

I dont understand why they cant improve facilities at CU. I mean wtf, my hs has a ****ing video board better than ours. Im sure the money is there some where, how many students are attending CU now?

It's always been around 29K

There are significant facility upgrades for football in the works at CU.

BuffChips radio touched on this last night.

Plans are being circulated and some stuff should happen relatively quickly. The donors who pledged to help buy out Hawkins in 2009, among others, formed a group of 40 or so 6-figure donors for facilities upgrades instead. It's tough to get that large of a group to agree. That's the hold-up on announcing something.

That's good news!

they also said video boards and upgrade to balch are coming as early as next year

The comments in that article are amazing. It would seem there are morons everywhere who think that college athletics somehow detracts from the overall college experience.

Yeah, I've never understood why we supposedly have the cheapest alumni in all of BCS football.

Is there any sort of PR out there about the upgrades? (Other than this article?) AD email, anything?

We need Larry Scott to send some of his folks over to teach the CU AD proper PR and marketing. We are sorely lacking in that department.

It would help to hire someone in the athletic department as Director of Marketing & Public Relations.

Maybe, since the funding is privately donated and no clearmplan is in place, the AD doesn't want to or can't jump the gun on an announcement?

Is it even possible to make Balch an even decent field house? It doesn't seem close to big enough. Isn't the track only three lanes and, like, 170 yards? It can't be wider because of concrete columns in the way.

I completely agree. The days of athletic success at CU are long gone (hopefully to come back soon) and we can no longer ride on the coattails of success in the '90's. We need to be cultivating young fans of CU athletics and the University, particularly in the State of Colorado. There is a lot of rebuilding to be done, not just on the field, but in the community. I recognize they did some things, like the D2 road show, but there needs to be a coordinated, professional effort. Furthermore, the AD marketing and University marketing should be coordinated. The University stands to gain a lot from good athletic programs, so coordination and cost sharing is appropriate. I have been told that statistics and demographics seem to indicate that in the next 10-20 years competition for college students will be extremely intense (I got this information from the Chairman of the Board at a liberal arts college in the Midwest). CU should be doing everything they can to foster fans of the athletic programs and University at a young age. This type of marketing investment can pay off today, but is even more valuable for tomorrow.
