2017 Season Hype/Countdown Thread

We definitely have to win one of those 3 road games this year. Pulling a victory from either UW or USC at home would be awesome, but not holding my breath with the way they owned us in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Yeah, once the "Official 2017 Season Prediction" thread is made in a month or so, I'll probably chalk those two games up to Ls. UCLA on the road is going to be tough, as is Washington State, but neither are out of the question. As I said, Utah weeks sets up favorably for the Buffs, so I think we win that one, and then I think we go 4-0 against OSU, AZ, Cal and ASU. A 7-2 conference record is definitely achievable, but would be best case scenario, IMO.

9-0 in conference is the best case scenario.

Maybe not highly probable. It may not be an expectation you'd bet on. But still it's the best case.
Correct. Best case is going 14-0 and worst case is going 0-12. Neither have even a remote possibility of happening in 2017, so I'm choosing the Best Case/Worst Case scenarios based on reality.

*15-0. Just saying.

Also have to get that USC monkey off our back. Nobody, and I mean nobody beats the CU Golden Buffaloes 12 times in a row!
I hate to bring this up, but my freshman year in 1986 we beat Nebraska for the first time in my life. I was 18 at the time. I think the Nubs held a 20 game streak or something crazy like that.

Shut your dirty whore mouth.

Don't be giving those Trojans a goal to beat.

The spin here involves powder blue jerseys.

(It was 18 games in a row from 1968 to 1985. Chuck Fairbanks still sucks.)

That's actually 10-2, but you didn't bold the WSU game...

That's also only 33 points per game. Last year they were 31/game... This year's offense will need to be closer to 40/game to get to 9 or 10 wins, IMO.

That is an eclectic group right there. Jake moretti could be apart of the watt family and I wouldn't even question it.

Sorry 10-2. I am tired. Been a long week.

And why not. Other than Michigan and USC we were undefeated. Not playing Michigan and USC is here this time. Totally do-able.

Wasn't sure exactly where to put this, but pretty cool hearing that Mac and Embree have a decent relationship and meet up once an offseason. Also, maybe I just forgot when it was probably announced a while back, but Embree is now the Assistant HC/TEs coach with Shanahan in San Fran. A lot of Buff ties to the 9ers these days.

I think that Embree's problem was and is with Mike Bohn. And Dan Hawkins.

He bleeds black & gold.

With some exceptions, I think most coaches respect other coaches and understand the nature of the business. The college coaching community isn't as tight knit as the NFL, but it's relatively small as well. There's no reason for Embree to not like Mac, and I take Mac as a guy who would go out of his way to have a relationship with a coach he was replacing, especially one with such strong roots to the program.

This is nothing against Embree at all because I like the guy. Some guys are meant to be head coaches some aren't, on the field. He's definitely one off of it and didn't really have a chance when he was the head. Hopefully he'll get another shot at some point. As is, his work with Buffs4Life, is something he can always be proud of, his family as well. The cause is a hell of a lot more important than football and I respect the hell out of him for it.

Not to derail the thread, but his biggest problem was having the worst OC/DC in the nation coupled with a terrible roster that he inherited.

Oh I don't disagree, maybe he'll get another shot in a good situation. Either way, his work with Buffs4Life speaks for itself.

It wasn't just an OC/DC and terrible roster. It was a combination of lack of experience in all 3 positions (HC, OC, DC) and a bad roster. You can have an inexperienced HC, but it requires strong veteran coordinators to help manage things. Likewise an experienced HC can have green coordinators if he has an experienced roster. With an inexperienced roster you better have at least one experienced coordinator.

I think it will take Embree a few more years of NFL experience, with a couple as an OC, before he gets another shot at a HC spot. Most likely in the NFL. I doubt he will return to college.

Yep. He said himself he didn't think he'd ever return to the college game.
