'18 CO QB Blake Stenstrom (SIGNED to COLORADO)

Duuuude. C'mon now.
Well, in this situation, it's not a problem.
A. He's played plenty at Valor Christian, not all of it in mop up either.
B. His Dad played QB in the NFL, so he's been groomed for the gig.
C. He would have played more if the guy in front of him wasn't one of the most recruited QBs in the country.
D. He has all of the measurables. Not to mention, there's tape of the kid playing against the 1st string, in meaningful games.
E. Chev's kid was a WR on the team, Chev knows this kid well.

What would more PT do for him that he won't make up for as the starter this year?

I despise Valor but they have talent.

Practicing against their 1st string defense is better preparation for college ball than playing games against most HS teams in Colorado (and a lot of other states for that matter.) Valor has multiple athletes on their defense who will be playing in D1 and D2 uniforms in the future, The speed and quickness factor is important.

Listen, the kid has talent and shows well. I absolutely love that he's going to be a Buff. But let's not go down the "playing time is not necessarily needed" rabbit hole. Mop up time is what it is. The players are different and the play calling is different. Just like practice reps (even at Valor) are different and JV and C-Team games are different. And yes, the majority of his time was mop up.

All that said, I'm rooting for the kid to blow up next year, win it all and bring some swagger and fire power to Buff Nation.

thank you.

I'm sure there will be more updates soon but I've found an encouraging update from Bud Elliott, a writer from SBNation's recruiting site.

Blake Stenstrom, son of former Stanford and NFL QB Steve Stenstrom looked pretty good. He has a quick release and while you'd expect someone with an NFL pedigree to be polished, it is interesting that he is this comfortable despite not yet being a starter (last year he sat behind Michigan signee Dylan McCaffrey).

I'm glad he looks good in camps and 7 on 7, but I will reserve my excitement for when he thrives with live rounds fired at him.

Here is what ESPN had to say about him... 4 Star Ranking
Strengths: Heady, cool demeanor. Smooth stroke, quality arm talent that will get stronger. Good ball handler, nice feel for the pocket. Throws an accurate and catchable ball. Throws guys open. Adequate size/strength at this stage. Areas of Improvement: Marginal speed and athleticism for the position. Been a back-up, needs to play more. Pocket player. Bottomline: This kid will continue to get better and blossom over time. Needs to play. Not dynamic and must be on time and protected to be at his best. Good feel for the game given limited experience.

Laughing at the lack of athleticism and speed. Didn't he just crush the shuttle in the 99%percentile to get to the Elite 11?

Reminds me a bit of the motion of one Tom Brady.....I think the dude is going to blow up this year...we got a keeper there....

Talented kid no doubt.

Also think it is huge having a father with that level of experience. Coaches can do a lot but virtually every college player hits some rough spots, QBs tend to do it more in the public eye. Having dad who has been through it is a significant resource for him to turn to when he needs to.
