Phillip Lindsay effect.

Not Sure

A lot of talking heads are bringing up the fact that Lindsay is a home town kid. It’s no secret that Lindsay is a passionate Buff. I am wondering what, if any, effect his success with the Broncos will have on our in-state recruiting. It certainly won’t hurt. But will it help much or is it basically a non-factor?

May actually help more with out of state recruits

Phil continues to openly show his CU loyalty. Kids in Colorado know about CU, out of state kids getting a reminder that players from CU are in the NFL may make them more receptive to at least talking to our coaches and giving us a look.

I believe it could be a factor in creating a culture. I am still a little disappointed at in-state recruiting, it seems like the Buffs are missing out on a few players every year, especially the kids that are not getting offers from CU but have received P5 offers. So, the culture has to shift a little more from CU as well. But I love Lindsay and the impact he will continue to have on his community.

What got me thinking about this was the Atteberry and Keanaaini threads. Two big in-State recruits with lots of options. Any advantage, even slight, might be enough to move the dial in our favor.

Obviously, there are other factors in play. I’m not discounting those. But all things being relatively equal, does Lindsay’s success on Sundays help us win some games on Saturdays?

I am bothered when a Colorado kid has a CU offer and CU is pushing for him and he still goes out of state. That is going to happen though sometimes, happens in every state as some kids just want to go someplace else.

Not going after every Colorado kid just because he has other P5 offers is not a problem. Just because some other P5 school thinks a kid is worthy of a scholarship doesn't mean that CU needs to offer him and go after him.

In some cases the kid isn't a fit in terms of style of play. An offensive tackle who is a very good drive blocker but doesn't pass protect well or move well laterally in space may be a good fit for other schools but would be a waste in Chev's offense. A DE who is undersized for a 3-4 and doesn't have the quickness or mobility to move to OLB again would be a waste of a scholly. Not good for CU or the player.

In other cases the staff may see a Colorado kid who has the talent to contribute but who has character or personality issues that don't make him a good fit.

We do need though to get ourselves to the point where we aren't losing elite prospects because we aren't seen as an elite program. Only solution to that problem though is to win and win some more.

A lot of homebody athletes are probably looking at him and dreaming about following his footsteps. As long as CU is a solid option for their future it is a nice idea

Any positive pub locally for CU helps. CU still has a long way to go to build back up the football image, and PL is definitely helping (along with the team getting better).

A rookie of the year push would really help! Win it and that opens some new eyes. People love his story, he would get a lot of extra press.

I do think one thing with Phil that can help is his story with CU. He tore up his knee in HS, and then after what was apparently a bad surgery, I believe HCMM got him to CU for doctors to do it right. He had to rehab a lot, but with CU's help (not just football team, but medical), he was helped to become who he became. Same with Moretti - local kid tears up his knee, and staff sticks with him, does right by him, and hopefully helps him get to play at a high level.

The staff sticks by kids that come to CU, even through devastating injuries, and helps the player fulfill their potential. I think with the more press Phil gets, the more chances he gets to share his passion for CU and his story. What type of coaching staff do you want by your side?

but yeah...in the grande scheme of things, the impact is probably nominal.
