Be Honest ...Who Are You Rooting For Saturday?

ok ok... I have stepped off the ledge and back into the building...
being a CU fan isn't easy at times and I got a bit desperate early this morning ... I've never rooted against them but that stupid thought crossed my mind
for a few moments.... Thanks for talking me off the ledge. I think I need to go to rehab...sigh

feel free to move this to 'The Island'
Nope. This oughta be stickied.

I'm sure when I start watching the game I will be cheering. I was even rooting for them when they blew the big lead at KU when we all wanted Talkkins gone. I just have some strange feeling Mac could still save his job.
this is the ****tiest post you've ever made... and that includes every political post youve ever made...jesus christ ITB

C'mon man, this is getting out of control, completely moronic thread. This notion that firing MM will bring us a national title is beyond ridiculous. Remember when Hawk got whacked? Yeah, didn't turn out so well.

when it was announced that we were joining the p12, we happened to have a game with cal on the schedule. i went with a huge group of Buffs (and cal fans). i knew it was an absolute no-hoper for us. i knew it. it was about 100 degrees on the field. and, i looked across to the cal sideline-- tedford's team looked bigger, stronger, and faster. but, i still hoped against hope.

cal ****ing destroyed us in every facet of the game that day. there wasn't a single positive. we lost like 52-7 or something horrible. boosters were screaming at the braintrust about the absolute disaster of CU football. it got heated. i would say that was definitely in the bottom 5 of my all time Buff experiences.

yet, even on that day, i never stopped rooting for CU. this, too, shall pass. we aren't a dumpster fire. we have a chance to take a big step up.

What point are you trying to make?

That CU shouldn't aspire to be more than "not an embarrassment" in football? Because that's what Rivals' Mike Farrell trotted out this morning. That we should happy to accept having a program that isn't a total embarrassment.

I'm willing to risk failure to pursue greatness because I will never accept "not embarrassing" as a standard for CU football.

The pregame at The Bears' Lair was fun but it was all downhill from there. My friend got ejected for throwing marshmallows at half time.

All I'm saying is be careful what you wish for, we all thought Embree was going to take us to the promised land. This unbridled excitement to blow up the program is puzzling to me.

No one's saying to blow up the program. I don't think of CU as a rebuild. Changing coaches doesn't equal blowing things up unless things need to be blown up. Why would we hire someone with the expectation that he'd have to go with a youth movement or dramatically change systems to something the personnel doesn't fit? I don't think that's our situation in the least.

Thanks! I'll be happy to hold your beer again next time too.

No matter who we get, there will be disruption and as we all know, there are no guarantees. I think the joy around here might be a bit premature and even misguided.

I saw that. Whatever brownie points Mike Farrell got for calling out Nub fans for claiming Wandale Robinson was paid by Kentucky because he had the audacity to want to play football there instead of LIncoln are now gone. Said this a million times on this board-I expect to be going to bowls every year-especially in this dog**** conference, with the occasional 2016 type of season. One bowl in five years, and I'm not expecting one this year. We can do better.

No one has said there are guarantees.

Where I'm at is that I don't believe the odds are good at all that HCMM can make CU a consistent 8+ win team. I do, however, believe there are other coaches out there who could accomplish that and they wouldn't need to blow things up for a couple years in order to get us there.

there are lots of reasons to believe that we won't experience a huge setback.

it isn't like we're going to convert to the wishbone or something. on defense, i think we might see less all-out blitz packages, but we run a pretty versatile defense set.

talent-wise, we have some legit all-conference or more guys in place at some of the skill positions and a few guys on defense too.

we're in need of improvement on the o-line; we're not deep at rb; and the secondary is a concern. so those are probably the talent focus areas.

in terms of the foundation, mm has installed a culture that helps guys be accountable and stay out of trouble. the work-ethic is there. the pipeline has gaps (as does every college program), but the building blocks are in place--- strength and conditioning, academic support, etc.

we have world-class facilities that are easily in the top 3 in the conference and they are surrounded by one of the most breathtaking environments in all college sports.

we have solid financial condition and the ability to pay top 3 in the conference pay to staff.

we have won at the highest levels-- not all schools can claim a national championship and a heisman trophy on their resume. and, as recently as 2 years ago, we played for the conference title. and, halfway through this season, we were undefeated, ranked, and legitimately in the hunt for the playoff.

the conference is pretty balanced. there isn't a program we can't rise up and beat. and, there are no super-rogue outlaw programs to contend with either.

we put lots of guys into the league. our conference footprint allows us to recruit some of the most elite high school players in the country.

this is a re-load; not a rebuild.

Colorado. These boys committed to the University I root for. Kick some ass, and have a frickin blast telling Utah how awesome it was to win the south. Have fun at the sun bowl, New Mexico bowl, etc...

fear of the unknown is not a guiding leadership principle. have a little faith.
Just a little history lesson, which I know you remember. When I was a student, we were certain Chuck Fairbanks was going to lead us to a national championship. When we landed Hawkins, if anybody thought it was a bad hire AT THE TIME, they're lying. Just saying, we should temper the excitement if we think the next person will automatically take us to the next level. There will be a set back as recruits leave, all of current players will not buy into the system, etc. We are not Alabama, LSU, OSU, etc. that reload regardless of the HC.

Here is the logic of the OP.

My buddy Billy is addicted to heroin.
Billy won’t go to rehab to get clean.
I hope that Billy has an overdose so that he will realize that he needs to go to rehab.

In the last 20 seasons, Alabama has had 5 seasons with 6 wins or less. They’ve had some major debacles with coaching hires.

We are witnessing the greatest modern dynasty in big time college football with an all-time great coach, so our POV about Alabama is a bit skewed. Weathering the inevitable storms is all about moving on from bad situations/coaches and an AD who’s focused on getting major funds raised for hiring/firing.

Pedo State level scandal would do it for me.

I would also say that I grew up a Carolina fan as a kid, but through all the cheating (as well as not living in the area for 30 years) caused me to fully abandon any support I had for the program back in the early 2000's.

Precisely, and we cannot afford another ****-up. I think we're being a bit delusional thinking the next hire is the elusive home run. Maybe I've been through too many of these and I ain't buying in to all of this.
