'19 CO QB Ty Evans (Signed to NC State)

I was never convinced that Evans was all that. He seems highly trained, highly conditioned, yet lacks ideal size, arm strength and plus athleticism. Is he good? Sure.

The point being, it's not the end of the world. It's possible that MT wanted his scholarship back. Or not. But there is a subset of recruits that apparently MT hasn't made a huge priority. So you can choose:

1. MT is an awful recruiter
2. MT has other ideas.

Side bet?

Those are the only two options? Good to know.

I bet you will be happy, no matter what. Easy win for me.

We need to find some Tyler Polumbi and Nate Solders, undiscovered and hidden somewhere beneath rocks. /s. That no one has discovered and that haven't committed to CSU-Pueblo
yet. C'mon MT !!

I didn't post this earlier, bc I felt like I was invading the family's privacy. I sat close to Ty's family at the airport on Friday, as they were going on the same plane as me to Raleigh/Durham. His father was definitely busy on the phone and texts, and while I tried not to eavesdrop...sort of hard not to hear anything. It was clear that Roper was out, and the family felt like they were in limbo. Other coaches were texting and calling, which makes sense. I didn't say hello or wish him luck, because the father was definitely busy with the phone...and they seemed to be having a family moment that didn't need interruption.

Ty does seem really close to his little brother - cute kid, about 5 years old...really young. The family seems close, and if MT reaches out hard, I wouldn't be surprised if Ty returns... ...OR, once Roper gets a new job, Ty follows him. Buffnik's post about a twitter conversation is disheartening, but I'm holding out some hope. I don't see him as the savior as some do, but he's a solid QB. We should sign a QB every year.

Good luck to Ty if he goes elsewhere...seems like a nice kid.

I buy they did not love Evans.

I do not necessarily buy they have a solid backup plan.

We're going to be so good on D and in the run game that we just need a Game Manager. Sarcasm font only Halfway On. Think A.J. McCarron or Jake Fromm/Browning. In truth, I think the 3A level might have knocked Ty off of MT's "must keep" list. No problem w/that.

Then we agree! If they don't love Evans, they don't want to bring him here.
We'd be better off with no QB than one that doesn't fit the system.

Sure.

They have to sign some players though. We are down to like 12-13 players. Waiting until January is a big risk.

Duff, this is just not going to be a monster year for recruiting. B+ Disaster Prevention is the bar. New staff, etc.

I'll take 13 guys this year over guys who wouldn't play. Now I don't know if that is true, but you got to trust someone, and it can't be the old staff can it?

This one smarts. I didn’t realize he’d flipped until just now watching the news. My first instinct is anger. But I’m not going down that road.

At this point, just get to ESD. More rumored decommitments, so just stop the bleeding.

Oh Matt Stephens is absolutely making this a front page of the sports section blurb. “New CU coach fails to make highly regarded in-state QB commitment a priority; Ty Evans flips commitment to NC State, once again highlighting CU’s lack of focus on Colorado Preps”.
Could be a better fit offense for this kid. He looks to be a bery good prospect for a more pass-oriented drop-back offense. Perhaps he read the tea leaves given what appears to be a run-first pistol base offense that may rely more on rpo’s and play action. Cannot blame the kid and obviously HCMT would have honored the offer. That said, it does eliminate one more QB recruited to a different style of offensive football. The real question is how deep are we behind Montez who I actually think will be more comfortable with Johnson’s pistol as I believe it will limit his reads and get the ball out of his hands quicker. Are
Lytle and/or Stenstrom able to plug in to this? I suspect the qb’s will like this offense and edge pass sets will be a bit more advantaged with a 5-yard pistol drop versus a 7- 8 yard air raid drop.

Lytle's more of a pocket guy.

But even though Stenstrom's a pro style, iirc he had a crazy pro shuttle at a Nike camp or something where he was right with the top DBs in the 3.9s. I probably put it in his recruit profile.

I thought I heard that about Stenstrom. He could easily fit if we can put another 10-15 good punds on him without losing the agility.

Chico Esquela, is that you?

I wonder what they thought of hid 3A level at the Elite 11? Probably just graded on a curve.

I was always worried about the jump from Colorado 3a to the pac-12.

Meh. I think that we dodged a bullet. If the kid was a 5A QB it might be a different story. Next.

MT not wanting a 3* from a 3A Colorado school doesnt break my heart. If the kid wanted to be a Buff he would be. We dodged a bullet here.
Can we put this bull**** theory that if a guy doesn't play for a 5A school he isn't worth recruiting? It always annoys me and I usually just ignore it, but it has hit critical mass in this thread. Here are some guys off the top of my head who have been serious contributors in the NFL in the past 10 years from 3A and smaller schools in Colorado...

Nate Solder from 1A Buena Vista (we all know what he's accomplished)
Ryan Jenson from 3A Fort Morgan, starting center for Tampa Bay.
Joel Dreessen from 3A Fort Morgan, contributed for both Texans and Broncos, with a solid 2012 season when he started.
Mitch Unrein from 2A Eaton, contributed for the Broncos and Bears.
Austin Ekeler from 2A Eaton, having a good year for the Chargers and looks like he'll have a good career as a 3rd down back.
And not in NFL yet, but Dalton Risner from 1A Wiggins, projected as a top 10 pick this year.

Yeah, the average talent level is less in lower classifications. Yeah, their stats can be elevated from it. But that doesn't lower the ceiling of what kind of players these schools can produce. They take more elaborate analysis and you probably want to get them to a camp to see them compete against higher level opponents, but suggesting Evans is a miss just because he's in 3A is irresponsible and makes you look like a smug douche. Not any old slapdick gets invited to the elite 11. Not any old slapdick has an NFL career.

Being ok with Ty leaving because you trust MT might have another plan? Ok. Being ok because you don't think he'll fit our scheme? Understandable. But sour grapes and throwing out classification, especially in a recruit thread, makes you a dildo.

Meh, they were all graded on a curve as well.

Just had a nice twitter conversation with Ty's dad. It's a business decision on a very short timeline, basically. Enrolling in January. No time to build a relationship before signing day and not even knowing what the system will be or if Ty's really their guy for the new staff. It was a matter of going back to a relationship and system where they had comfort to make what they considered was the best/ safest decision they could for his future on a very short deadline.

I was high on Ty as a prospect, so I'm disappointed. I also think he could have waited a day or two to talk to the new OC, but I don't know for sure that NC State was going to give him that space or if he even wanted that space (maybe it just felt right to him & the family so after 2 staff changes yanking the rug out from him this year they wanted it to be over). Anyway, I'm not bitter. Nice kid. Nice family. We'll also move on and be just fine.

Great inside scoop, disappointed when we lose recruits but great news for both parties. Okay Coach Tucker who’s hiding behind door #2, let’s Go Buffs!!

Where did I say that kids from 3A schools aren’t worth recruiting?

He's young, and kids make decisions on a lot of things us older folk have learned in life lessons already. If he doesn't make the NFL he's going to have a rude awakening at his first job. More power to him, he does get that he makes his own bed and he gets to lie in it.

Find yourself someone who loves you as much as Ty Evans loves his future QB coaches. Get a room bro.
