Official Bowl Games Thread

Dabo has depth at DL that 99.99% of college teams can’t imagine. Losing Dexter Lawrence would damn most teams. Not Clemson. Clemson manhandled previously undefeateds ND and Bama.

They’ve got a stud QB, Studs at the skill spots, and OL with loads of experience and wins. “If we can do it, anybody can!” Cmon man.

Dabo was a lights out recruiter when he was an AC. Now he is a lights out closer with awesome assistants. He’s built up a squad of NFL level talent in the most important positions. They have serious financial/ancillary resources and exist in one of the most fertile parts of the country for football talent. The school has baby dolls everywhere and isn’t too tough to navigate academically.

That point about losing assistants does apply-hard to feel sorry for Nicky, but the lack of turnover at Clemson (three coaches left in the last three years or something like that).......they're gonna get a few more imo.

Bama ran into a buzzsaw tonight. They confused Tua for 6 and he made a poor mistake ending another drive with a INT. Outside of that Saban got desperate and aggressive and Clemson had all the answers when it counted. This was the case of everything going right for Clemson and nothing for Bama. We rarely see Alabama struggle, especially in all phases.

But this is still a team that had 500 yards of offense. They’ll be even better next year, just like Clemson.

Saban isn't going anywhere, he'll reload, fix issues, and be back in the playoffs next year.

It'll be interesting if or when Clemson loses some of the loyal soldier assistants. I'm surprised nobody has tried to pluck the OCs yet. Venables seems totally content to hang out as DC and be the Clemson Bud Foster.

I thought they were #2.
Nebraska is always a big #2, but on Nov 23, 2001, they were ranked #1. I suppose that means they were declining from better than #1. Like #1+++, and then they slipped to just #1. I’m still unsure how a team slips down to #1, but apparently that’s what happened.

Not that any of that really matters. It’s beside the point entirely. The point is that Alabama just got exposed and it reminded me of the 62-36 game. If it doesn’t remind others of that game, that’s perfectly fine. Everybody is entitled to his opinion.

That’s the only reason but alums turn down their alma maters all the time.

All the guy has to do is look at what he is doing right now and say "I built this." Why someone would leave that in their prime I don't know. He has the chance to be the Bear Bryant of Clemson and build an even greater legacy than what he has currently done.

So does that Clemson team have an argument for best CFB team of all time? First 15-0 team in history and manhandled arguably the best all around team of the greatest dynasty of our lifetime.

Whether fair or not the NFL futures of their players will determine the legacy of this team a lot.

That was probably the killer thing about the 2001 Canes.

Plus no SEC boosters and way easier path to the postseason.

I catch myself thinking Clemson is in the SEC usually once per season at least.

Next year's game at Syracuse will be interesting, and probably their only true test. Other than that the ACC has no real threat besides whatever Pitt chooses to do week to week.

Plus at this point Clemson has good enough an overall reputation that it’s unlikely they get left out with one loss unless there’re four unbeaten P5 teams, which isn’t happening.

Well, up until tonight I thought this year's Alabama team had a solid claim to that title, and 15-0 Clemson just beat the **** out of them, so I think it's a legitimate question.

2001 Miami Hurricanes

Like I said, a claim.

I'm sure you could go back and look at some of the teams back before scholarship limits and find some monsters, too.

The thing I love about sports is that you can have these arguments and rarely do you have a definitive answer.

2001 Miami Hurricanes

Check out these guys:

The 1899 Sewanee Tigers are one of the all-time great teams of the early sport. The team went 12–0, outscoring opponents 322 to 10. Known as the "Iron Men", with just 13 men they had a six-day road trip with five shutout wins over Texas A&M; Texas; Tulane; LSU; and Ole Miss. It is recalled memorably with the phrase "... and on the seventh day they rested."[52][53] Grantland Rice called them "the most durable football team I ever saw."[54]
