I have a grad class with the USC Associate AD tonight. I'm interested to hear his thoughts on the KK situation.
That should be very interesting.
My guess is that he was hired by Swann more than Helton to make a big splash for fans in a year they couldn't pull the trigger on firing Helton.
Then Kingsbury wasn't loyal to Swann, wanting to listen to NFL opportunities, so they had a very quick falling out.
I could be wrong, but I'm never a fan of Bulldog's offense. Could be a good loss for Georgia.

It feels like that is maybe a third of actual coaches that left college for the NFL, but that is ESPN for you. Their idea of sports now is seeing what LeBron James has to say on Twitter.
Here’s the deal. The things that go into a college W-L record are not necessarily things that apply directly to a pro HC gig, especially in the new NFL. (h/t Woelken)

Maybe he is confused between the NFL and European Futbol and he thinks they can just buy Mahomes from the Queefs?

So maybe Arizona is trying to do the reverse and instead of taking a very successful college coach they are taking a mediocre college coach. Maybe if Kingsbury was too good of a college coach he would not be "NFL ready".
Who knows. My point was that chasing "success" from college to the NFL has proven to be a very unsuccessful model in the last 19 years with only 3 out of 11 considered positive. Not sure what the stats are on hiring NFL coordinators into NFL jobs but it seems that would be a better path.
Rhule wanted to pick his own staff and their GM said no. What is it with these GMs thinking they need to choose more than just the Head Coach?

The GM has just as much to lose. He's focusing on bringing in a good OC to develop Darnold, not letting Rhule bring his friends. If this HC situation doesn't work out, the GM will lose his job too because he's on HC #2.
The GM's job is to focus on personnel and hire the Head Coach. He should not be picking and choosing the Head Coach's staff, regardless of what he has to lose. If you are hiring a guy to be your HC, but don't trust him to bring in the guys he needs to be successful, then why are you hiring him in the first place? It's a dysfunctional model and it's part of why the Jets will stay awful and why the Broncos have been so bad.
Yes. Chasing success has been flawed in most all CFB => NFL moves. My premise is that they were using the wrong metrics about who would and would not succeed in this transition. NFL execs are now using different metrics.
They're called "The McVay Metrics".
