Official Spring Practices Thread

I thought Max247 anoitted Sauvao the starter back in Feb? Hopefully, he's just a little rusty and/or swimming a bit at the new level/system.

Maybe. Depends on who the Guards are in that scenario. If Moretti and Sherman at the Guards, I would agree.

This looks down right nasty on paper, but requires a fully healthy Moretti.
LT - Hambright
LG - Moretti
C - Lynott
RG - Sherman
RT - Ray

If Fillip can keep putting on weight and progress, that goes a long way in giving them a swing Tackle, with the ability to move Sherman to Tackle if needed as well. Pursell, Sauvao, Kutsch, and Roddick round out the two deep on the interior... On paper and fully healthy, the OL looks pretty serviceable.
That is your top 5 talent wise (you could also include Fillip with a top 6). However, getting Moretti and Ray healthy, along with Fillip up to the size you want is probably not something attainable this year. 1 out of that 3 should be the expectation in 2019. Hopefully

Sherman is playing at tackle in 2019.
Agreed, but in an ideal world, he’s a Guard and Hambright, Ray and Fillip are your Tackles. If Sherman is still playing Tackle in 2020, he’s either developed into an elite talent at that position, or they’ve failed to recruit and/or develop the Tackle position.

For arguments sake, do you really think it’s a stretch that Ray or Fillip could be the starting RT (Hambright a Lock at LT, IMO), leaving Sherman at Guard?

Why Ray at OT? Fillip has length. But Ray? Seems like an OG.
He was running w the 1s at RT yesterday. I get they are experimenting with different combinations, but they obviously feel Ray can play Tackle. Besides, I think Sherman, Moretti and Ray are all better suited for Guard in an ideal world.

Seemed like your perfect world had Ray at OT rather than Sherman. Agree both are more suited at guard.

Any notes on what Ray is weighing in at? Seems like he was still light at the end of last season due to recovery efforts and not being able to work on gaining weight the right way. Haven't seen any mention of him in the offseason S&C articles like we did some of the other guys.

Just your opinion - you're not the definitive expert on CU football that you think you are.
You must be new around these parts.

I'd be pretty surprised if Pursell doesn't start

This.

He was very young as a starter last season and did relatively well. His biggest problems came when he was outmatched physically, another year worth of S&C should make that much less of an issue.

Makes sense to have Lynott getting work at center because in many offenses it is a key to the coordination of the OL. It is important to have a guy ready to step in but Lynott didn't look anywhere near as comfortable at center as he did at guard.

It will be interesting to see with Lynott if they managed to get his ankle healthier. He has had a series of issues with it and last year it gave him problems both in terms of mobility and strength. It will probably never be "right" but if it is stronger and healthier he can be a much more effective player than he was much of last season. Actually shows how gutty and dedicated he is that he played on it last season the way it was, a lot of guys would have sat.

It just all depends on how things go this off season. If Moretti, Ray and Fillip all progress this offseason to be able to play a high number of snaps next year then I don't really see how Pursell sees the field because he wouldn't be one of you top 5 guys. Hambright, Sherman and Lynott will be starting. That leaves two spots for Pursell, Moretti, Ray, Fillip, and Roddick.

It’s also the position. Tim is probably the only other C. Purcell is still young.

Whoever the best five are, that's what I'd like to see. Having a little depth doesn't hurt either.

His snaps actually get to the QB.
That's a failure on the previous coaching staff to have a legitimate backup plan at the position. Snapping isn't a god given talent, it's a learned skill that is honed with repetition and muscle memory. Lynott and Jynes need to be getting hundreds, if not thousands of snaps this offseason to prepare.
