CU DT QB

The main problem with Cody was that he started four seasons.

I know it’s difficult to talk about Cody without bringing his dad into this, but I thought Cody was good his freshman season and definitely showed enough promise there. If the coaches hadn’t played favorites and Hansen had been made full time starter going into the 2009 after they burned his redshirt for a couple of snaps in 2008 to make the opponent at least consider the QB might run the whole thing would’ve turned out way better IMO. Cody was perfectly fine as a starter for one or two seasons, but he never should’ve started four years. Hansen showed enough his senior season under Embree of all people to make you wonder what if. Hansen even got a NFL camp invite based on it.

Cody is the type of player who would have looked amazing with top notch talent around him. Smart, could see the field, knew where all his targets were. Give him time and top end receivers, and he would probably resemble a lot of Boise QB's. CU didn't have any of that at the time.

Check yourself. Cody played his ass off for the school. His dad f’ed the team over. There’s a difference there.

Bleh I suppose you’re right. When I look back all I think of is the Hawkins being the worst part of my time at CU.

Amazing is too strong of a word, but competent is certainly an appropriate substitute.

The problem for Cody is he was short, had an average arm, and was an average athlete. Nothing terrible, but easy to scheme against once teams have film on you because the throwing lanes are severely limited.

Agree on both of these.

Cody was a guy who was very intelligent and with a coaching staff with some kind of cohesive offensive plan would have been even better in that area. As someone else mentioned if he had outstanding talent around him to make plays he would have been the classic game manager QB.

His problem was that he was as @Duff Man stated very limited as an athlete. If you needed him to beat somebody by making a play happen he wasn't going to do it.

Ideally his best situation would probably have been as the perfect backup in a system with enough talent to support him when they needed to play him. He seems like one of those guys who could have with limited practice reps been ready at a moments notice to come in for an injured starter or even a starter who just needed a change of pace without hurting the team.

I understand his decision with as close as he was with his dad but it almost certainly would have been better for Cody, for his dad, and for CU had he gone someplace else

**** Cody and Dan Hawkins. They ruined my time at CU, assholes.
This is absolute bull****. Cody was a Buff and gave everything he had to CU. The fact that you didn't enjoy the football team has no bearing on whether or not Cody is a good Buff. F**** you.

They ended up having to roll him out a bunch his last two years as he just couldn’t get those clean throwing lanes. His deep and medium range throws also seemed to take forever to get there. Dude had the mental side down, though. He could have been a very qb but his size limited everything he could do.

Exactly. The OU game in 2007 was the last game Cody was effective. There was enough tape then to show any DC how to defend CU. Cody wasn't going to beat you with his legs, and he lacked an arm that would make you pay for leaving your corners on an island. He was tos short to see the deep middle. Defend the run and bring the house on passing downs, and watch CH fling a wobbler off his back foot.. God knows we saw enough of that. CH had great football IQ, but was really a FCS-level physical talent.

You are forgetting that the O Line was a disaster most years. Don’t recall the year, but remember only having like six OL men in the spring. Defenses stuffed the run without needing 8 in the box.

Sanders, Harrison, Polumbus, Solder, Ryan Miller...I would say the Hawkins era had as much if not more talent on the OL than we do now. CU hasn't had an OL drafted since '13 when Bakhtiari left. Polumbus, Solder and Miller all played in the NFL. Doesn't hold water. The OL wasn't great under DII, but he had some talent. I think my statement is entirely accurate.

He never threw the ball and the only receiver he had was Patrick Williams who dropped everything in front of him. Bnard was sick AF and instant offense when got scrub playing time was a 4 star dual threat qb on rivals and never got an opportunity cause Cody came DONT confuse history and your unbridled love for Dan Talkins
I am fairly certain you watched some other guy named Bernard Jackson, than the one who played at CU. Phenomenal athlete...not a great QB.
