'19 TNFR DT Jaunta'vius Johnson (Verbal to COLORADO)

If he could be back, I am not a fan of the way they slip it to Howell and it's sort of stuck in the bottom of a fluff piece that he's gone...
Tuiloma still listed on roster, but not sure if we can accept that it's up to date.
Is Tuiloma thought to be an attrition candidate?

Very good reason for him not to be here. Hope that all works out for him and his family, Can't argue with a guy who has his priorities in the right place

Defensive lineman Jaunta'vius Johnson, a graduate transfer from Auburn, is hoping to rejoin the Buffs this summer. Johnson briefly enrolled at CU in January, but left school after his wife and baby in Alabama were in a serious car accident. Johnson went home at that time to take care of them. They are doing better now, he said, and he still hopes to play for the Buffs next season. ...

That's terrible. Glad everything is ok and he should be able to make it back this summer.

Well that’s better news knowing he may come back. I was thinking he just disappeared with that little side note the other day saying he just left school. Hopefully he gets everything taken care of and his family is okay and healthy and he can come help our Buffs out this year on the line. Pretty cool still that he dropped everything to be with his family, that’s a good man.

We all know CU is thin on the DL, and a one year rental to plug a position gap isn’t taking a huge risk. However, I don’t think Johnson would have beaten out Sami as the starter.

In fact, I’m not sure how much Johnson has left. He tore his knee up in high school in ‘14, and injured his knees again in ‘17, and has mostly spent his college career on the PUP list.

That may be, but Sami has his own injury issues and he's never played a down at the collegiate level. Johnson would have provided much needed depth, at the very least.

I'd have felt better about our depth on DL with him here

I also am not at all surprised to hear he's not going to be here. Skepticism creeped in the day he left.

He played in two games in four years, as a backup. I'm not going to spend the time digging out the data, but I'd be surprised if he had more than a dozen snaps to his name since high school. Hardly a lot of experience. Personally, I'd rather roll with Janaz Jordan or a true freshman DT like Rodman or Murray as a backup than an inexperienced one with questionable gas in the tank. (Edit: Johnson had 13 snaps in 2018 against Alabama State and Liberty)

This is also a guess, but when Johnson dropped out for spring, I think he lost his spot.
