Dante Wigley

Get the JC kid (Ford) here and it’s a net gain. Otherwise, it slightly hurts depth, but I’d rather have Trujillo get those reps anyways.

Not going to say it is a huge loss, but he could have provided serviceable depth. Razor thin secondary right now, which spills over into special teams.
The deep WR group will have to take up the slack. Maybe some of the two way guys from HS play some DB.

No. They'll make it work with what they have at both CB and S. Miller, Blackmon, Abrams, Blackmon, Trujillo and in an emergency they have Udoffia, Perry and Luckett who can all play CB in a pinch, although not ideal. Need to add the JC kid.
This keeps getting brought up as a viable option. Ugh

I’d rather go with one of the walk on DBs than watch an offensive player take meaningful snaps at a ridiculously hard position like CB.
Which is exactly what they would do. The last time they did it was a joke because they had no other options.

They have 5 scholarship CBs right now, and a few guys at S who can play both if needed. It’s not ideal, but they’re fine, particularly when you consider that they are not likely to play 3 CBs at one time very often. The Star position (Davion Taylor) is going to be out there far more often than a third CB.
Yes, that’s true. But if they have any injuries, they’ll be in trouble.

I was just thinking how pathetic it is that the ONE thing Mac was supposed to be great at was coaching and developing DBs and this is the situation he left us in...

MM was great at coaching and developing DBs. Unfortunately like virtually every other position on the team nowhere close to enough effort was put into recruiting the kind of talent that could be developed to that level.

He did a great job of developing a number of guys but some of those guys were raw talents initially recruited by JE (who as it turns out could recognize talent and recruited some excellent players but couldn't coach it,)

Some others like Oliver were under the radar great athletes. Other schools caught on to this pretty quickly and figured out that MM could identify athletes but once he did they could be stolen because his staff wouldn't work the recruiting hard enough to keep them.

Depth wouldn’t look so shaky if we didn’t lose two scholarship CBs in the last few weeks. From a numbers standpoint, MM left the team in a decent place. Talent level can be debated of course.

I agree, it didn't have a damn thing to do with what the guy knew. How he emphasized it was the problem.
