Sir Larry Scott.. (P12 considering buying out Larry Scott)

It kinda looks like Scott's on the high end. That being said Delaney of the B1G apparently took home close to $20m in bonuses recently probably related to the new rights deal they signed.

Delaney is worth every penny. He resurrected that league in the revenue sports.

The common thread in the Pac-12/10/8's collective history of being a "weak" conference has been the universities naive approach to blindly trusting their commissioner when the overwhelming subjective evidence is obvious to everyone outside of their "inner circle" that it is time for a change. Tom Hansen did some good things as the previous commish but by and large he allowed the conference to fall way behind in regards to prestige and money from TV revenues and bowl contracts that we are still playing "catch-up" from and spent 26 years in that role; retiring when he was 70!

Larry Scott has passed his point of usefulness and we are in diminishing return territory; yet the Presidents overpay him with bonuses on top and let him work/live lavishly on their dime.

Amazing that that many well educated and successful people can still be lead by fear and weakness. Another 16 years and Larry Scott will turn 70 and have served his 26 years just like Tom Hansen.

Delaney runs a conference that has three 100,000 plus seat stadiums and an average capacity of 71,000. The other conference has no six figure stadiums and a 59,000 plus average. Im not sure you'd get the same results.

In spite of stadium size, their league was really not competitive in revenue sports. He turned that around and mobilized the money in ways the Larry Scott has not. Results in games did not correlate to stadium size.

Heh. Most of us 35 year olds were in Kindergarten when he became commissioner. That was so long ago Jesus might still have been having coffee with DBT

10 years ago, the Big 10 was losing in recruiting big time players to all of its schools in both revenue sports. Most folks thought they were the worst of all of the power conferences. Delaney navigated them into bigger money and far better competitiveness. The contrast compared to the sexiness of west coast teams is stark.

If 4 strikeouts is “The Golden Sombrero” what is 5? The Platinum Jock Strap? There probably isn’t a name for it since it never happens. Way to go Trevor.
Hey DBT, shhh. The thread is over there.

Russillo’s Dual Threat podcast had a good bit with Bruce Feldman on the Pac12 and Larry. I thought it was pretty fair and didn’t bash the Pac-12, but was suspicious of Larry Scott’s approach. It’s good to hear Pac-12 football talked about by the National guys- we don’t always get that...

We also get lucky that Feldman and Mandel (and now Russillo even though he was always a Pac supporter) live on the West coast and attend a lot of the Cali school games/practices.

And that’s not including their Tier 3 contracts.
Which are somewhat overrated for most of the teams when you don’t have a partner like espn to help but Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas are making quite a bit of money.

One of the things I thought of the last couple weeks as this acc network is going live is that having a partner like espn really helps get you valuable games on those conference networks. Clemson is the number one team in the country so in the pac 12 world their game would never make it on the network but espn has more of a collaborative relationship there so they have Clemson BC I believe which is just huge. Can you imagine the demand the pac 12 would we could get number one usc against say Arizona state on the network? I think that’s where it really hurts us.

Just wait until the ACC releases their numbers from having the ACC Network this year before we decide to let ESPN take control of the Pac-12 Network.

Staying in the Big 12 wouldn't have gotten us the Champions Center. Given the increased contribution from alumni since the move, I don't see CU losing out that much after all.
Not so sure about that, RG was the catalyst behind the donations but there isn’t no question that the pac is a great fit for Colorado.

Do you have specific numbers on the increased donations from alumni since the move to the Pac 12? That’s a lot of donations to make up for lost TV revenue.

Who got more per year from 2010 to 2015 Pac12 or Big12?
How much were we getting before leaving in 2010?
The Big12 would be distributing 16% less per member if there were 12 teams
Whats the total amount distributed from 2010 to now per conference?
When did each do their rights deal last?
