2019 Buffs Football hype thread

Unrelated, this type of publicity is amazing and its FREE. Getting on TV during the game, being seen around the Broncos and Rockies and getting posted to both social media accounts is big time.Tucker is making it known that Denver is CU country and that the Buffaloes are THE team in the state.

I seemed to have missed the bold before, I thought he was just calling him an asshole lol.

But yeah I agree on everything else!

The youngins weren’t around when CU was kicking ass so they don’t understand what will be coming our way again.

I was 5 when they won the natty lol. All I’ve ever understood is mostly suck and average play and yet I still love them!

Personally, I would have loved a 5:30 slot for Nebraska but, I get it.
If you're offered a mid-afternoon slot on a major network it's hard to turn down the eyeballs that will attract. However I too would have preferred the late FOX game because the students (and general populace) would have had more time to get drunk, and it could have been declared a blackout which would have made whatever amount of red is in the stadium look less impressive.

I look at what Coach Tucker is doing with guarded optimism. He is putting players on the roster that certainly look the part. I would love to see the team reflect his hard charging attitude. I'm just not sure how quickly it will take root. Week 1 would be great. long term though, I think Coach Tucker is bringing the right attitude to restore the Pride and Tradition.

I was 11 for our natty and was at the game in Lincoln where Bieniemy ran for four 4th quarter td’s.
Will never forget my dad picking my younger brother up who was miserably cold bundled in blankets sitting under the bleachers after EB’s 3rd TD and said, “I don’t care how cold you are, you are gonna see this!”

It's almost as if CU has to make an effort to get publicity and that just walling yourself off to in-house media is not really beneficial in a crowded sports market.

They can do both if they really want which is what has been so frustrating.

You can keep the media out of practices and create a bunker mentality in Boulder while also USING the Denver sports market to your advantage. It isn't rocket science. Simply stopping by a practice or hanging out during warm ups or getting on TV during the broadcast immediately elevates your brand and you don't even have to do anything...

The age of social media has stumped Plati to this point. I think Tucker is changing that.

I think the failures in this regard in the past were almost solely due to MM’s lack of desire to publicly promote the program and be in front of the media. That **** takes a lot of time, energy, patience and the ability to “schmooze”, stuff that MM didn’t want to deal with more than he had to.

I have a feeling that was all part of RG’s criteria when looking at HC candidates. The HC has to be the face of the program and someone willing to promote the **** out of it. Tucker seems like the perfect combination of someone willing to promote and sell his vision, while also not coming across like a Dan Hawkins snake oil salesman.

If there was a football coach royal rumble I’m betting the house on Tucker. He’d literally beat the **** out of any coach in the PAC-12. Hell maybe even America. I’d pay big bucks to see a Mel Tucker vs. Ed O heavy weight bout.

I wish Todd Graham was still a HC in this conference... would have paid good money to see that fight for purely entertainment purposes.

I think MM had a lot to do with it as well, but I cannot give Plati a pass. He is supposedly the sports media guru and his social media awareness and public awareness in the social media age have been severely lacking. I think RG and MT have a vision and are giving the SID a kick in the shorts, or taking some of these kinds of responsibilities away from that department.

I’m not saying Plati isn’t responsible as well, but he wasn’t actively stopping MM from being more promotional or outgoing with the media; that was all MM, just like this is all MT (and RG). Plati takes orders from those two.

Whit and/or Cristobal won’t be a walk over.

I’m pretty sure Mike MacIntyre did the same thing. Mike Bohn did, too. This isn’t a new development.

100 percent with you, I'm more bullish then a lot of the poster are. I understand and respect their trepidation. It's that I have seen, heard and watched how the 2 greatest coaches in BUFFS history went about their business. In just a brief meeting coach Tucker I know the Buffs have a great man to lead them. It feels so good to feel this way once again knowing the Pride and Tradition is coming back!

MM actively avoided social media and media appearances in general.
Social media for sure. I do remember him making appearances at Rockies games several times, though. Point being that what we are seeing with Tucker in the booth at the Rockies game isn’t some brand new thing that he came up with all on his own.

He does appear to be far more accepting of the spotlight and being in front of as many cameras and microphones as possible.

I think we often assign every negative characteristic to the former staff and every positive one to the current one. MM had his faults, but let’s not completely bury the guy. He was good for CU. It was time for him to move on, but he wasn’t the worst coach in the world.

I am not burying the guy, but he walled himself off. It was a regular point of contention on this board.

I’m not saying it didn’t happen but I’ve been here for a few years and I don’t ever remember a single twitter post about MM being at the rockies or Broncos games, multiple times.

Anyone have video or audio of HCMT on the Rockies' broadcast? Curious what he had to say
