You don’t take an 0-12 team to 12-0 in two seasons without knowing what you’re doing as a coach, regardless of where the program is located. Frost needs a stud running QB for his offense. He has one at Nebraska, and we’ll see if he can stay healthy all season, but I think Frost will ultimately have more success than Fleck. Maybe not starting this season, but if NU sticks with him through the process and doesn’t place ridiculous expectations on him too soon, I could see him being successful there.

I don’t think anyone is downplaying Frosts ability to coach. But 0-12 to 12-0 is a whole
lot less impressive in a non power 5 conference, especially one located in talent rich Florida. He’s not in Florida anymore and Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State and Ohio State aren’t just going to lay down for him.

It depends on what they are willing to define success as.

If they think they are still an elite program that should win 12 games a year and be in the hunt for a national championship most years then no he isn't going to be successful.

Nebraska is no longer seen by recruits as an elite offer. It isn't like getting an offer from Bama, Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame, or even USC. They don't automatically get the attention of top prospects just by saying "We are Nebraska."

They also are not in a situation that lends itself to them building to that kind of success. They are going to continue to get beat most years by a much better Wisconsin program, Iowa program, even Northwestern. Then they will take their periodic beatdowns by Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Ohio State.

If success means building into a program that can win 8-9 games and go to a mid-level bowl most years he can do that. If success means a return to the glory days he will be the next one they chase out of town.

Based on the ridiculous nature of most of the their fans I would guess it will be the latter, not the former.

I could easily see Nebraska becoming a Wisconsin type of program under Frost. Never going to be the BIG favorite, but consistent bowl team with 8/9 win seasons being the norm, and a few 10/11 win seasons thrown in there when things fall their way.

I don't see them reaching that level of talent. When Nebraska was winning they were recruiting Texas well. Now the Texas kids aren't impressed. They don't play there like they did in the B12 and they don't have the success to ride on. Wisconsin recruits better in the Midwest than Nebraska can and does better in other places as well.

They could become a program one step below Wisconsin meaning two steps below Iowa and the other B1G hitters.

Is that enough for the faithful? I don't think so.

First off, Wisconsin is not a level below Iowa.

Secondly, of course it depends on recruiting, but I think Frost will be able to recruit at a level that brings in classes in the 30s.

UCF wasn't that far removed from a 12-1 season in 2013 and a 9-4 season in 2014 before that 0-12 season. You think those UCF players forgot how to win?

I mean, they went 0-12, so yeah. Besides, most of the players on the 12-1 team weren’t apart of the 13-0 team under Frost 5 years later. Not sure what your point is here

You mean like Solich and Pelini did? Yeah, Nub fans are very supportive of that level of success.

Good piece on early season matchup nightmares for teams like Alabama and Ohio State (and somebody decided it would be a good idea to include the Nubs on it too)-Viska is going to one-up the 10 catch 177 yard day he had last year in Lincoln.

He may not have the kind of numbers he did last year. Nebraska may go into the game with the full intent of making sure that Viska doesn't beat them again.

The problem for Nebraska is that even with their full attention he will still probably have solid numbers including 100+ yards and at least one TD. It also means that other guys will get less attention and Chev has been building a WR corps that has multiple guys who can hurt a defense that lacks depth like Nebraska has.

It wouldn't be a shock if CU has two WRs with over 100 yards and may be close to having three. Meanwhile focusing on stopping Viska will also open up the running game.

Yeah but the 0-12 to 12-0 thing is totally overstated. They were in the fiesta bowl in 2013 and a bowl game the year after. It fell off but there was still talent on the roster.

And they were sitting in the middle of one of the most talent rich recruiting grounds in the nation at a time when some of the big in state schools were in transition.

There is more talent within a one hour drive of UCF than there is within a full days drive of Lincoln.

They'll fire him after 10 Outback/Capital One (or whatever the hell the name of that game is now) bowls in a row if you're right though because their moron fans think they should be in the playoff every year.

Obviously there was talent on the roster, but I don’t think it’s totally overstating anything when a team goes winless to undefeated in two seasons. He did a great job at UCF, and yes I acknowledge that NU is a completely different ball game. All I’m saying is I could see them becoming a solid program again under Frost, if I’m being honest. They’ll never be a blue blood again

He did a great job. Im just saying that when people state he took over an 0-12 football team that doesn’t really explain the entire story. That was the best G5 program in the country two years before he took over, he had quite a bit of talent, they lost a lot of seniors the year before when they went 0-12 and were due for an uptick in play.

In 2017, UCF's, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd leading rushers were all 1st or 2nd year players brought in by Frost.
In 2017, UCF's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th leading receivers were 1st or 2nd year players brought in by Frost.
All-American McKenzie Milton was recruited and signed by Frost. He only had two offers out of HS, Hawaii and UCF.
Their 1st Round Draft PICK cornerback Mike Hughes, was only a one year player (2017). - signed by Frost
Their 1st Team All-American OLB, Shaquiem Griffin, the kid with one hand, had never played anything but special teams or back up safety before Frost arrived.

Frost kicked out 36 players between his arrival in early 2016 and August 2016.

Since his arrival at Nebraska in December 2017, he has turned over 91 players.

Like I said he did a great job but there was still talent on that roster that helped him win all those games in 2017. Also, recruiting at Nebraska to compete in the Big-10 is completely different than recruiting to Central Florida to compete in the AAC. They will have depth and talent issues at WR outside of Spielman, RB could be an issue with Washington in some deep **** and potentially losing their JUCO RB late, OL is having some serious issues without a center, and safety looks like it will be a mess.

LOL... 8 of the Starting UCF offensive players in 2017 were signed by Frost in 16 or 17. Their offense was the reason they won 13 games that season. That offensive talent was NOT present before he arrived.

And you're right, it is different recruiting to the Big Ten than it is to the AAC. Since arriving Frost has brought in these offensive skill players:

4-Star Top 100 QB - Adrian Martinez
4-Star ESPN300 QB - Luke McCaffery
4-Star ESPN 300 RB- Maurice Washington
4-Star #1 JUCO RB - Dedrick Mills - Not sure what you meant by "losing him late." He's academically cleared and in Lincoln.
4-Star - HS All-American RB/WR - Miles Jones - injured in 2018 - will be RS Frosh in 2019
4-Star - HS All-American RB/WR - Army All-American - Wandale Robinson
4-Star RB - Rahmir Johnson - also NJ State 100/200 Meter Champ
4- Star WR- Demriyon Houston - decommit from Texas to sign w/ Nebraska
4-Star WR - Jamie Nance - 10.5 hundred kid
4-Star 24/7 WR - Darien Chase - chose Huskers over Oregon and Washington
4-Star ESPN RB - Ronald Thompkins - Offers from Bama and Georgia - missed all Senior Season though with ACL tear
4-Star 24/7 TE- Chris Hickman

Adrian Martinez and Mo Washington were the only dudes on that list who faced CU last season.

Mills, Robinson, Miles Jones, and Rahmir Johnson will all be significant additions in 2019. Robinson and Mills will start from day one.

I also have to laugh at your comment about Nebraska's safeties. Deontai Williams and Marquel Dismuke are both former ESPN300 consensus 4-Stars who had offers from the likes of Bama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida/ Florida State, Oregon, etc...etc. Those two will spark the most athletic safeties combo Nebraska has had in 10 years.

Center is definitely a question mark though... you are correct there.

Dismuke hasn’t snatched a starting spot yet despite Nebraska running out some truly awful secondaries in his time there. Maybe he has a big year finally, as a RS junior, but I think it has to be seen as a knock against him that he couldn’t force his way onto the field. Deontai Williams was a 3*. Frost landed “the best prep safety duo in the country” in ‘18 and both are gone.

You’re relying pretty heavily on ‘19 fall additions at skill positions. Which isn’t the end of the world or anything, but that’s far from a certainty. Miles Jones had been awol all spring at a position that was sorely lacking. That’s not a good sign. Maybe it’s truly just injury issues but he’s gotta get healthy then before we can count on him.

You know who else led an 0fer team to a quick turnaround and nearly an undefeated season at the G5 level?

LOL....Jones, Johnson, Houston, Nance, Chase, Thompkins, and Hickman were all 247 composite 3 stars. LOL at using ESPN to try and pass them all as 4 stars. Congrats on getting the NJ State 100/200 Meter Champ tho.

When, and I mean ever, has a Fusker fan ever admitted prior to them getting their butts kicked a few times that any husker team or players are below average or even less than great.

To hear them tell it each off-season the rest of their conference, for the most part the rest of the country, is playing for second place.

I understand fan optimist, hey I believed in Hawkins and MM leading us to bowls prior to a number of different seasons but let's get a little bit of a grip. The huskers have sucked the last few years and the talent is leaving town as fast as it is coming in.

Even when they get blown up in multiple games (I think Wisconsin just scored again) they hang on to the fantasy of change a position coach or get one player back from injury and all will be well.

Sorry fuskers but your program is much further from being good than a few coaches or recruits.

And McCaffrey was a 4* but as an athlete, not a QB. He went to Nebraska because he had zero other offers from P5 programs as a QB. He had plenty as a WR, even some as a DB, but he was not in high demand as a QB.

Frost wants/needs an athlete playing QB to make his offense work, not a QB who can run a little bit. Luke has a chance to be a good one in that offense, but will have to sit for a few years before seeing the field.

Frost offense is the perfect fit for McCaffrey, one of the few in the nation that he is well suited for.

And I don't think he will be sitting very long. That offense, especially the way Martinez plays it, lends itself to the QB getting hurt.

The guys that Nebraska has behind Martinez don't have close to same kind of abilities that he does, the entire offense changes when he goes down. I would not be surprised at all if as soon as Frost believes that Luke has a grasp on the system he becomes the principle back-up and that as Martinez gets hit and twisted down on multiple plays we don't see Luke playing a lot.

Williams was a 4-Star ESPN300 Rivals 250 in 2015 out of Jacksonville, but couldn't make grades.
