HCMT said he wants to go after the same guys other elite teams go for. I am seeing lots of guys with G5 offers and not a lot of P5.

Am I missing something? Just curious as I don’t follow recruiting as much as others of y’all do. Thx.

I’d surmise that what he said is a goal but probably not an immediate expectation.

Overheard at a recent party, “Didn’t the Ogre tell everyone he wants to do a marathon? That was months ago and he still hasn’t run one.”

“Do you not not remember how fat and out of shape he was? Couldn’t run a hundred yards without nearly fainting!”

Edit: This is fiction.

I noticed the same thing. What I’ll say is that a lot of those G5 offers are places like Memphis, UCF, FIU etc.

I think that there are plenty of guys on those teams that could help a Pac-12 school win, as long as they are from places like GA, LA, MS etc.

Bottom line is that I’ll take the SEC leftovers and we will make some noise in the Pac-12. I think it is the perfect strategy for where we are now.

Help a Pac-12 team win what?

SEC "leftovers", particularly the ones that don't actually hold any SEC offers, will not elevate this program to win big in the Pac 12.

Two things-One, look at the offer sheet guys like Jake Wray and Carson Lee have. Two, Mel Tucker seems like a smart guy-he needs to win first.

Jake Wray is not a SEC "leftover," which is the point @TSchekler is making. The guys with only G5 offers out of the South have suddenly been elevated by some CU fans as the guys who are going to be the key to our turnaround. It does not pass the smell test.

Wasn't trying to make the case that he was Duff-I still like what I see in the 2020 class though. Look at the offer sheets that Lewis, Wray, Lee, and Parker (might not be as spectacular as the others, but if Bud Foster is recruiting a defensive player to come to Virginia Tech.....he can probably ball) have. Given that, I don't really have a problem taking a chance on Justin Jackson.

DBT is exactly right. We're recruiting like a team who has played in 2 bowls in 13 years. More success on the field will bring more success in recruiting. We get a bowl like I think we will this season-its going to have a positive impact on 2021's class, and on down the line.

Yes, success on the field will help in 2021 and may help to finish strong in 2020, but Tucker and his staff will still have to out-recruit their record for a couple years (maybe significantly) for the program to really take off.

The conversation isn't about Jake Wray, Carson Lee, Lewis or Parker. Those are the top 4 commitments in the class. Everybody here is on board with those recruits. It's the guys we are taking in May, June and July that some people seem to believe are great recruits solely because they are from SEC country, even though they don't actually have SEC offers.

I'm trying to argue that they're doing that in my opinion with Wray, Lewis, and Parker-Lee is a kid that MM and staff did the bulk of the work on.........and this staff simply needs to ensure he stays a CU commit. The one thing this staff can do to get this thing to take off in a hurry is to win games we're not supposed to-Other than 2016, did we win a game we weren't supposed to under FHCMM?

I'm saying I'm fine with taking chances on Justin Jackson given the commits we've gotten from those kids......

MM and staff did not do the bulk of the work on Lee. He was likely not coming to CU until MT and Kap started talking to him.

We will see how the class ends up because the aggregate is always important. If they miss on some prospects at key positions, the depth issues plaguing this program will not end anytime soon.

My mistake. I thought he committed last fall.

You're fine with taking DL recruits with no P5 options because we have good QB, OL and LB recruits? WTF?

I'm fine with taking a chance at that spot because you need depth there for one. One more thing with Jackson-I remember making similar comments in here about Mustafa Johnson before last year-he had interest from Kansas and Oregon State in addition to us. He had a HELL of a year. I'd like to see Jackson gain some weight, but if Brumbaugh and CMT think they can coach him up at this point-I'm okay taking a flyer on him. Let's see what this team under Mel Tucker does on the field.

Believing that recruiting could only get better by winning first was another mistake I made early on in my time here. At some point, the staff has to sell the vision well enough to get good recruits here. That is far easier, IMO, than winning consistently with lesser talent, but there can't be any excuses in recruiting to achieve that.

If Brumbaugh was in on 3-4 coveted DL prospects, I don't think people here would have a problem with Jackson, Mitchell, or other "under-the-radar"/JUCO DL recruits as a couple high upside fliers. When there is zero traction with the higher caliber prospects, and we are relying on the UTR/JUCO kids as Plan A recruits, it's a major red flag.

Fair, and I agree-If Brumbaugh recruits like Jim Jeffcoat did here this year and next year, I'll be disappointed in Tucker if he doesn't move on from him. I'm gonna wait to make those judgements as a fan until we see this team under Mel Tucker on the field this fall.

I had very high hopes early on, but the terrible DL and in-state recruiting cannot be ignored.

I'll go on record now as saying Brumbaugh needs to be replaced by Tucker sooner than later.

I’m more concerned with the in-state recruiting than the DL, which was stacked pretty good in this years recruiting class. It was an incredible year in Colorado and they left in droves. I thought Tucker would get better response from these local kids.

The offensive line class is great. I'm not worried about in state recruiting. The DL class is horrible.

Getting good recruits >>>> getting Colorado recruits.
