Tucker calling defensive plays?

which episode? I expected him to be pretty hands-on with the defense anyway.

Why? It really explains the defensive hires. We spent the money on the offense.
Because he should have went after a great recruiter that would have taken a promotion in name mostly to learn under tucker. Basically what I was asking when I said to go after a guy like antonio pierce from ASU who is the number two recruiter in the conference right now with legit So cal ties. Instead we got a G5 coordinator with connections to Georgia.

Antonio Pierce LOL. Yeah, you want the guy who conned Steve Spurrier into the training camp schedule of dreams for lazy players when he was a Redskin. Cause that worked out so well.

Pierce has one season of coaching experience and you want to promote him to a P5 DC simply because he wouldn't have to call plays and can recruit? There's so much that goes into being a DC other than calling plays. I would love to have Pierce on staff as a LB coach.

Pretty sure Tucker has said the exact opposite.

I think he'll give Summers enough rope to hang himself with as the cliche goes, but if we get torched by anybody (in particular in conference play-Tucker and all the dudes he brought with him from Athens played option GT every year-so I think we'll know how to contain Adrian Martinez and the option stuff the nubs do and Air Force offensively) wouldn't shock me at all to see Tucker take over calling signals on that side.

Yes, if you are a head coach and decide to call plays then go get yourself a coordinator who can bring in players and makes the entire job easier. Especially considering the staff defensively, which doesn’t look very good at the moment. It doesn’t have to be pierce either, just someone with a great recruiting reputation to bring on and groom over time. There is more that goes into being a DC but you can spread those responsibilities pretty easily if the head coach is calling plays.

Find me a program that has had a head coach call plays on either side of the ball in this day and age and win big-the only guy I can think that does it since Carroll at USC (who I think called the defense but I might be wrong-correct me if I am) is Jimbo Fisher. I'd prefer he didn't unless Summers is a total flop of a hire.

Lincoln Riley and Urban Meyer (pre retirement)

I prefer that tucker doesn’t call plays but Lincoln Riley is a good example of one. I was just saying that if he ends up calling plays I will be disappointed that he didn’t bring in a big time recruiter as his DC, he could have probably used that title to convince a good DL coach.

Also his first time as a HC. Learning what he wants to do.

Riley I flat out spaced on, and Meyer I know did at UF-but I think Ryan Day called Ohio State's offense the last few years.....didn't he?
Probably, I'm not sure. Most HCs just have way too many things to deal with during the week of preparation, and then a ton of responsibilities during the game to be able to take on playcalling responsibilities as well, so that's why it's not all that popular. That doesn't mean it isn't done by some guys; it just requires more planning to help with the other responsibilities.

He should have something as big as play calling figured out prior to filling out his staff.

He does have it figured out. Summers will call the D, and he'll be hands-on with the defense. Can we withhold judgement on this staff until we start playing actual games?

I may be in the minority here but I believe Summers will be a great success story here and will move to an SEC program in the next couple years
