Tucker needs to drastically improve recruiting. Top 20 year-in year-out. I really thought he'd be doing much better by now.

The problem with in-state recruiting right now is that Tucker and company have a ton of work to rebuild the CU relationship with CO High Schools. I’m not saying they were bad under MM, but the last staff would have struck out completely on this years in-state group. Most of these kids never seriously had CU on the mind over the last 3 years and it’s going to take Tucker some time to change that mindset, especially when Notre Dame, LSU, and Michigan are recruiting hard here.

Seriously? Before even coaching a single game? Wow.
Ohh, we're supposed to wait and let him coach up the diamonds in the rough and the mediocre talent. Looks more and more like MM all the time. Especially on the DL. Pathetic. I thought someone said he knows how to do SEC "big boy" football. Looking more and more like the D coord from Ole Miss.

Where's the major bump we should have expected?

No. He’s just trying to sell a vision with no tangible product to show. He needs to show the kids what’s he’s about. He has zero tape to show kids what CU football is about. You expect a huge bump from a first time HC? You are freaking delusional.

MM had a track record but really didn’t produce. Tucker has nothing. And coming from nothing, he has done an admirable job, IMO. You are condemning the DL recruits he brought in at the end of last cycle without knowing jack **** about them or how they will play. You all said the same about Mustafa when he was recruited too.

No, not talking about Janaz Jordan or Jeremiah Doss. I was ok with those guys for his first class which was time shortened.

I'm talking about this year which is not over so he can still make the top 20. Need to make the top 20 or I don't see much difference between MT and the last few coaches since Gary Barnett.

im not as sold on recruiting as some others here, either. But you’re being delusional if top 20 is the standard. Not going to happen with CUs recruiting base and recent 15 years of futility. Somewhere around 35 would be very good.

Let’s talk top 20.

Hard to jump the three Florida schools based on territory alone.
Florida
Florida State
Miami

Same with Texas and Texas A&M.

Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, and Clemson aren’t getting topped.

Nor are Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State.

Not Notre Dame.

In the Pac 12, hard to see the Buffs leaping USC, Oregon, or Washington.

Don’t forget Oklahoma.

That’s 18 schools right there that are basically no hopers to jump.

So to get into your top 20, CU has to beat out UCLA, Cal, Stanford just in its own league. That’s hard to expect right now, but let’s say they do it. Ok, then you also have to beat out Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Michigan State too. Oh then beat out Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State. Or also beat out North Carolina, South Carolina down south.

Top 20 ain’t happening.

I don’t believe that for a second.

If Mac was still here we would probably have 1 or 2 commits. This is a much better recruiting start. You don’t get a bump into the Top 20 when you have been a terrible program for two decades.

OK, I'll lower my standards (like some of you, some way lower) to top 30. There is no reason why CU should not consistently pull top 30 recruiting classes year-in year-out. Especially with a new shiny Big Boy coach straight outta the SEC. Hell even the cornholers can do that.

And he needs to dabble in the top 20 in the positions where the state of Colorado puts out the most talent. OL

This is starting to become eerily familiar. Slight bump in recruiting and coach em up on the field.

Let's hope he's a better coach than the last few guys were.

Tucker will get CU into the top 20 in recruiting, probably 2022. Two full cycles to get the machine well oiled.

This class has the best QB and uninjured OL recruit coming out of high school in many years for CU. Parker looks like a much higher level of recruit then CU has been getting. The speed at OLB and DB, and size on both lines are clear upgrades.

What I am wondering about is how the staff will coach, game prep and game day. How will Tucker handle his staff, will he move out coaches that are not performing? Will he continue to let Tillman be a nonentity in recruiting for example. Can Tucker lead this team to a bowl game this season, can he implement the culture shift required in just one season?

It’s clear to anyone paying attention that this staff is not well connected in CO or CA yet. Lots of pub on the steps being taken to build real bridges in CO, just not a lot on the CA front yet. This staff needs to build CA pipelines in addition to TX and GA.

No coach exists, that would take the CU job, that could overcome the CU damage of the past 15 years and recruit a top 20 class right out of the gate. To expect otherwise is just a smokescreen for for not having the courage to just flat out say that a person believes Tucker was the wrong hire and give reasons to support that belief.

So what you're saying is that we'll never climb ahead of Washington and Oregon. Sad.
This coach is categorically different! Highly opinionated, affable, available and intense. He will be the winningest coach in CU History. That is his goal. This man doesn’t not meet his goals.

He is the same kind of man that McCartney is. He talks you listen, regardless of your station in life. None of the previous coaches could carry a room like MT. Neuheisel a little. But none of the others. Wait and watch!

The point on California is key. How long does it take for Tucker to fix it? Because if it is sooner rather than later, we are in good shape.

Not saying it will never be possible. Things have to happen and change around here for its probability of happening to increase.

Most, if not all, of the programs currently above CU are extremely well funded institutions. Like it or not, money flowing into an institutions facilities, coaching salaries, etc makes all the difference. The intrinsic value of Boulder, the climate, etc can only take you so far. You’ve gotta have money to pay your coaches top dollar and have them work in facilities and a stadium that attracts fans to get the attention of top recruits. Once you’ve done that, then winning will take you to elite status.

I am saying it is unreasonable to expect that this year. As others have said, CU has recruited top 20 in the past under the real coach Mac, but he built to that level over years. Inside 40 would be good this year.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you can recruit a difference maker at a key position like QB or RB and it can completely change the dynamics of a class ranking.

When looking at the standard scoring used by 247, top 30 should definitely be where CU is consistency recruiting with some years breaking into the top 20 and other years probably falling a little outside of it due to class size. Avg player rating should be 86-87.

Yep. There are currently 21 teams for 2020 that have a ranking 88 or higher, 10 are 90 or higher. If CU can average an 86/87 or better every year they’ll be in top 30 almost every single year.

Also need to fix the DL recruiting. From a rankings standpoint pulling in a bunch of "under the radar" JUCOs and/or high school kids without significant offer list is going to drop your overall recruiting rankings. It also doesn't lend itself to a lot of success on the field.
