Per news reports, Brian Kelly is going to LSU from Notre Dame. Per this Twitter post (who knows if it is true), it is for some other in the area of $15,000,000 per year. Per YEAR. That is just insane money. If that is what it take to keep up with the LSUs of the world, count me out.

I’ll be curious to see what the response to this is across the CFB world. It is insane spending like this that often precedes institutional change. Maybe that won’t happen, but the vast majority of CFB programs are watching big programs make moves that are unfathomable and entirely unattainable to the masses. The playing field is more uneven than ever.

I don't worry much about these paydays. The money in the Pac-12 will be better than anywhere except the SEC, B1G and ND. CU will be able to top any G5 coach contract and be in the middle of P5. I never expected to be in a position to poach Notre Dame or Oklahoma for a coach anyway.

I am less sure of the TV deal value than you are. PAC12 footprint doesn't tune in.

I’m starting to think this is highly advantageous to programs like CU. Being in the 2nd tier should give CU and like schools access to all the G5 talent and lower tier P5 talent.

As long as we fix the finances well enough that CU is able to move quickly to recover from its mistakes. That's what really makes me envious of the LSU funding. Whatever your pay scale, you've got to have the financial infrastructure to support it. I don't care if you're buying out a $15M a year contract or a $5M a year contract, this is essential.

Let’s replace a few words with synonyms ...

“I’m starting to think this is highly disadvantageous to programs like CU. Being in the worse tier should give CU and like schools access to all the worst talent and below average talent”

Doesn’t sound like a good recipe. Novel thought … we pursue the average->great talent?
