Gouin was a 1st Team All-State linebacker at the Colorado 5A level for Boulder HS. CU offered him a grayshirt scholarship opportunity out of high school, but Gouin decided to accept a scholarship offer to Air Force instead. After redshirting in 2007 while practicing both linebacker and option quarterback, Gouin decided to transfer to CU. He enrolled at Colorado in the winter of 2008 as a preferred walk on. Gouin sat out 2008 due to NCAA transfer rules. In the spring of 2009, Gouin performed very well in the spring scrimmages at the Sam OLB spot but was hampered by a severely sprained ankle that hampered his development. Gouin did not see any game action at linebacker during the 2009 campaign, but did contribute to special teams. He is battling for a spot on the ILB depth chart during the spring of 2010.
