Nwabuike has been a soft verbal to SMU for a few months and there hasn't been a lot of chatter. He played his high school football for Hightower, one of the top 5A programs in the state of Texas (state championship game in 2008 / top 10 in 2009). He's a natural speed rusher who looks like he has the speed to play OLB or add some bulk and play DE.

Rivals reports that Darian Hagan is recruiting him for us. If you're a Scout member, they've got some junior year video to check out.

Also, Scout had this review of him as one of the top 5 performers at the SMU Houston camp back in June:

The Hightower commit, Uchenna Nwabuike , is a pass rush special, fast off the line and gets his head up and uses his arms to clear free of the lineman. He needs more refinement but the basics are there plus he has great speed. His frame can get a bit bigger and get him into the 230-240 range but not much higher than that. His game is speed, but he needs to learn to use his hands better and get a better jump on the snap. Amazingly enough he was mis-stepping on the snap and that caused him to lose a step, but even with that he was able to speed pass the tackle. Adjusting his first step is not too hard to do, it will take time and patience, but if he fixes that, wow.
