The priority is CBs right now. After that, getting another TE.
Beyond those two areas, OL will be the focus. LB, for whatever reason, does not seem to be a priority for the coaches in this class.
I think we have gotten a few OLB's in this class. My theory is that a few of the DE's we've gotten will play in the 2pt stance. It is ILB's that we will not be taking (unless they are big timers, like Rippy)
I am sure that is the case. Just seems a little strange when you think about Major and Rippy both moving on after next season. Daigh, Greer, and Webb better be good.
Do we still think there are a few silent commits out there?
Another TE? We have two commited right?
Also KT Tu'umalo. And to be honest, we had to skimp on at least one position in this class. I think ILB is the best spot since it is pretty obvious the coaches do like the young guys they brought in last year.
Keep in mind that Embree counts transfers in his overall numbers for this class.
TE is a huge need for us because we really lack depth there. We only have three scholarship TEs returning next season and all are unproven.
True, cannot address every single position. Obviously the coaches must be comfortable in who they have there now.
Yeah I'm not really understanding why the lack of emphasis on LB either unless we are for sure using Norgard there. I get that we can't load up on every position, but just going 0fer on the position seems like a poor decision. After next year we're going to be pretty thin there and I'm not sure I want to see true freshman getting a lot of PT there in 2013.
Other than that, I just hope we make room for Chris Solomon. Love that kid.
Based on the numbers on hand and the incoming recruits, I would like to see 1 ILB (since we have 0 frosh), 1 OLB (since we have 0 jr's and 1 walk-on frosh), 1 TE (since we have 0 frosh), 1 FB (only 1 on roster, and 1 recruit), 3 CB (need speed and depth), and 2 more OL. My opinion is based on the current roster and what we have coming in (a * indicates walk-on player):
qb - next year -- 1 sr (Burnette), 0 jr, 2 soph (Wood, Hirschman), 2 rfr (Dorman, Schrock *) // commits - 1 (dillon)
rb - next year -- 0 sr, 1 jr (Ford), 3 soph (Creer, Goodson, Jones), 0 fr // commits - 3 (Crowder, Payne, Abram)
fb - next year, 0 sr, 0 jr, 0 soph, 1 rfr (Plimpton *) // commits - 1 (Norgard)
wr - next year, 2 sr (Pugh, Ebner *), 4 jr (Darden, Richardson, Papillon *, Turbow *), 4 Soph (Canty, McCullogh, Vincent, Ebner *), 1 rfr (Spruce) // commits - 3 (G Thomas, J Thomas, Williams)
te - 1 sr (Kasa), 3 jr (Thornton, Fernandez *, Wood *), 2 soph (Allen, Slavin), 0 fr // commits - 2 (Irwin, Ray)
O/L - next year, 1 sr (Dannewitz), 3 jr (Bakhtiari, Handler, Harris), 4 soph (Asiata, Crabb, Lewis, Munyer), 3 rfr (Cotner, Mustoe, Nembot) // commits - 3 (Irwin, Kough, Kelley GS)
dt - next year, 2 sr (Pericak, Richter), 1 jr (Bonsu), 1 soph (Poston), 0 fr // commits - 3 (Henington, Solis, Tupou)
de - next year, 0 sr, 1 jr (Uzo-Diribe), 2 soph (Parker, Nichols *), 2 rfr (Koch *, Tuso *) // commits - 3 (Jagne, Stuart, Wilson)
OLB (none) - next year, 2 sr (Ewing, Major), 0 jr, 2 soph (Greer, Tu'umalo), 1 rfr(Walker *)
ILB - next year, 1 sr (Rippy), 1 jr (Webb), 2 soph (Daigh, Williams), 0 fr // commits - (none)
CB - next year, 0 sr, 2 jr (Orms, Vigo), 3 soph (Bell, Henderson, Moten), 3 rfr (Harrington, Brisco *, Thompson *) // commits - (none)
S - next year, 1 sr (Polk), 1 jr (Smith), 4 soph (Harlos, Washington, Gorman *, Marquez *), 2 rfr (Clark, Yates *) // commits - 1 (Manaea)
Good lawd that DL is thin. Yikes.
Aren't we still in the hunt for Desean Rippy?
Yes. He's our main LB target. Also, I don't know that we've given up on Reshawn Hooker.
What even happened to Hooker, last I saw he visited us then have heard nothing since.
Hey y'all! It's great to have found a site to satisfy my addiction for up to date info and constant opinions on CU's recruiting! I've been following along for the last week getting used to the site, but I figured it is about time I partake.
I went to all but one of the CU home games this year. So it is safe to say that I've been looking forward to seeing some positives this off season (which for this program right now is more of the on-season) We've won some battles and I really like the under the radar commits we just got with Abron and Tupou. After watching film, I'm very excited about Tupou. He shows great get off, separation, vision and a beastly attitude. Listed at 300lbs, but moves like he is 250. Abron looks like a good little change of pace back that could be a real home run hitter and a good compliment to our bigger backs.
I'm confident that we'll get a commit from a bigger name soon (Rippy, Kelley, Cope-Fitz...) which should build momentum and hopefully get us a solid class ranked in the top 30.
Regardless of the final ranking of this incoming class. I'd like to state my satisfaction so far with the type of guys we're getting. Any good program is built successfully from the inside out. We need strong O and D line play to get anywhere. Hawkins developed a team that would be somewhat competitive in the RMAC (I know since I played in it). I watched a team all year that was smaller and slower than nearly all of our competition. Those are huge factors that I looked for Embree and staff to bring in. We need a big SIZE and SPEED injection into this team. And so far it looks like they are aware of the issue and doing their best to solve it. Speed guys look like Abron and Gerald Thomas. As far as size goes, I just looked something up recently... Our starting front 4 on D this year averaged 257 pounds (Hartigan, Cunningham, Pericak and Goldberg), the incoming freshman DLineman already average more height and weight and will only get bigger. IMO, good job!
This has been my first post! More to come soon! But promise to keep the future posts word counts down!
Good lord, another MtnBuff. Oh well. Now get me a beer and burrito, stat.
Welcome, Jaximus. Now get me a sandwhich and a beer.
Dude! I lurked for months. You may not be ready. Have you read the certified mail thread?
That is cause you were scared of just how nerdy you were gonna be. In retrospect, it makes sense.
I also lurked for months. However, my lack of posts was due entirely to sloth.
I think this class so far is solid. We've gotten a QB to develop. We have beefed up our DL. It's the type of class that will produce a lot of starters and contributors for a winning team. Lots of great football character, too, for enforcing the culture that Embree has established.
What I'm not seeing so far are the gamechangers.
Maybe we have them and we'll find that out when they get here and start playing football. But I'm not seeing those guys that jump out at you on their film and scream "PLAYMAKER!".
Going in, I wanted some DBs with lockdown ability, elite speed, and great ball skills. I wanted a TE who changes the other defense's coverage schemes. I wanted a RB who is a threat to take it to the house on any play even against defenses with USC level speed. I wanted at least one sideline to sideline LB. And I wanted a passrusher that immediately changes the other offense's protection schemes (maybe Kisima is that guy).
Kenneth Crawley and/or Yuri Wright
At this point, we've made a nutritious burrito with black beans, rice and grilled chicken. Bring the spice, Embo.
Come on Nik! This is a CU-Boulder site. I shouldn't have to FIFY.
So including transfers, what's the total body count for the class? Anyone know what Shead's up to?
Certified mail thread? No sir.
Probably just as well. It would scare the pants right off of you. Were you aware of the conseqences of signing for a certified letter?
For whatever reason, I'd give us the best shot at landing Rippy, Crawley and Breslin out of those you named. I don't know much about Manea, but I'd like to see us get much better safety play ASAP. Hopefully we can get a playmaker there. Solomon possibly?
At this early stage, I'm more concerned with us getting good blocking up front and good defense before I worry about offensive playmakers. A great OLine makes decent talent look great and a bad OLine makes great talent look decent. The good playmakers will want to come here once we can show a QB who can dish the rock and an OLine who will clear the path.
Thank you for confirming I am not crazy. I keep reading on CU boards that this is a really good class right now.
The Salsa Commit! Who will it be?
My theory is that they love Greer and Daigh and plan to now move Tu'umalo, Clark and Harlos to LB. Time to eat big boys.
