Kobe´s been running his mouth. Best of 7 Series, who wins?

92: Stockton, Magic, Drexler, Jordan - Pippen, Bird, Mullin, Malone, Barkley, Laettner - Ewing, Robinson
    Coach: Chuck Daly

2012: Paul, D-Will, Harden, Kobe, Westbrook - Igoudala, Durant, LBJ, Love, Griffin, Anthony - Chandler
    Coach: Coach K

What kind of difference would the injured Wade, Howard, Rose and Bosh have on a possible series?

    Poll to follow

No chance. 1992. Although an older team at the time, they got the GOAT in MJ as well Magic. Not to mention way better centers, even with the injuries taken out of the equation. Pretty sure they would also be a much better defensive team.

Yeah, Robinson, Malone, Ewing, Barkley, it would have been tough sledding inside. Drexler, Jordan and Pippen were in their primes. Those were great days.

Stockton would get ran all over by Paul but other than PG(Considering Magic had been away for a year) 92 is clearly better. James is a good defender but that's about it for the 1-4 positions and MJ and Pippen were much, much better defenders.

Wasn't there a thread a while ago saying mj's rings didn't mean much because the talent he played against wasn't as good?

MJ got most of his rings after Magic/Bird/McHale/Malone etc were past prime or gone entirely. That said at worst he was the best player in the game for an era.

The 92 team had it all they could score from the outside, score on the inside, run the ball, set the ball up. They were a much better group of defenders than the current team and the dream team had many more complete players on both ends of the floor.

Sorry Kobe but a series against the 92 team, if 92 had any level of motivation, would be goodnight to the current team.

There were 11 future hall of famer's on that 92 team.....look at the 2002 list and tell me where you can even find 5 potential HOF players (Kobe, LBJ, Durant, Paul?, Dwill?......)

Larry Bird admits that Kobe Bryant is probably right that this year's Olympic team could probably beat the '92 squad .... :wow:

i think that the 92 team would beat the team that played last night, but if the injured players (rose, howard, and wade) were playing, i think it would be a tossup, especially if they were playing by today's ***** rules of no hand checking and every play being a foul

The 92 team would cruise. I voted for 92 in five, because there would be one game where Lebron would go off and dominate, but then MJ and Scottie would get pissed and not let him shoot the rest of the hypothetical series.

92 team would probably win in 5. I actually think the 2008 team would have a better chance against the 92 team. In the middle the 2012 is really weak and would have to shoot the lights out to beat the 92 team. I don't see that happening.

Howard would help make it more competitive but he would not score against the Dream or Robinson. Better defender than Chandler tho.

I was amused by Kobe talking about how old the 92 team was when he is 34. I got a kick out of that.

Kobe, LBJ, Durant and Paul are guaranteed HOF. I think Melo will be too even though he's a flawed player. D-Will and Westbrook are probably going to be HOF's too.

If you bring in Howard and Rose on this team you probably could put 9 HOF's on this 2012 team. The talent in the middle is the big difference between the teams.

MJ = better than anyone on 2012 team.
Magic = better than anyone on 2012 team.
Bird = better than anyone on 2012 team.

That's three out of the five starters.

Bird and Magic were over 34. Was anybody else? The 92 front court would just abuse the 2012 team.

I voted in five. All talent - which is decidedly in the '92 team's favor - aside, what younger fans aren't aware of was the difference in attitude at the time of those Dream Teams. Years prior had not seen pro NBA players allowed into the Olympics, and for years the United States competed at a disadvantage. The US hadn't won Gold outside the Boycott LA games, in a sport that was a US lock until '72.

When the 92 games came around it was the twenty year anniversary opportunity to make up for the '72 loss to the Soviets, their precedent to our 'Miracle' -1980 win in hockey. There were no questions about drive or focus or want - each of those guys were getting the chance of their lifetimes, and for that first opportunity there was no doubt that the very best in the world were going to play, and if needed they would give everything they had to bring back gold.

It will be fun to watch this year's team, but just because the stand-ins on the four letter wanted to fill time on the slowest sports week of the year doesn't make this team close to the same.

The crazy thing is that they took Laetner over Shaq. Shaq should have also been on that team.

you're off base, Bird was a not the same player anymore and i would take LBJ over him at this point in Bird's career. Magic barely played and was a non-factor, his knees didn't allow him to play, CP3 would have ran circles around him.

I still think the 92 team wins though

Agree, because of what it meant to those guys - sure they were past their prime, but they ensured that none of the younger guys would bring bad attitudes or laziness. The Laetner decision was a major head scratcher. He was just starting on his disappointing career as a Timberwolf at the time. I think the idea was to bring in the clutch Dukie - but clearly that was wrong.

In 1992 Bird and Magic were not better than Durant and LBJ of today.

BTW the player that played the best on the 92 Dream Team was Barkley.

I think that´s a fair comment. Magic had been retired for a year in 1992 and Bird played his last game in the Gold Medal Game.

1992 wins pretty easily because of the front court. 2012 is much, much more athletic and versatile, but their best line up probably has LBJ playing the 4. Maybe 2012 could run 1992 out of the gym, but I think the inside advantage would just be too much to handle.

Doing some research, interestingly enough it seems like the US and UdSSR were the only nations to vote against allowing NBA players at the Olympics.

Put Kobe's dedication to the game with LBJ or Durant's skill and yes. Right now, no.
