2016 Attrition Thread (Now Official): 8 gone (apsay, white, Center)

Yes, of course they do with excess cash flow. But they do not transfer a scholarship from football to a non-revenue sport. Schools that take football seriously treat their 85 scholarships like gold, they realize they are a precious resource that is not to be purposefully used in a manner that does not directly help the team.

Should have read between the lines with all the talk about Awini switching to offense. On the surface, it made little sense. Now, it makes perfect sense.
Also no word of Gherke leaving, which many of us expected.

So a QB depth chart with Webb, Gherke, Awini, Noyer (RS) and "maybe" Sefo.

We better hope Webb can make it through the year unhurt, because it looks like a pretty big drop after that.

Montez will be ahead of Gherke

Yeah. I Just forgot him for some reason. Not thinking about order on the chart itself. I agree that Montez will likely be the first backup unless Awini just blows everybody's doors off.

bummer. thought White was a good player for us, Apsay looked pretty good, Center-meh, hopefully Awini remembers how to play QB and Montez is the Real Deal.

White looked like a player, tough to lose him.

Center was a physical specimen who never turned into a player. He was worth the risk though since had he turned out he could have been a difference maker. His other offers show that other staffs felt the same.

Apsay wasn't going to compete to start but would have been nice insurance. That said if we get to a point where we would have had to have him we are already in deeper trouble than we can handle anyways.

Interested to see what we can do with special packages with Awini. Recent years we have been terrible in short yardage/red zone. Maybe with Awini we can be more effective there while forcing opponents to spend time prepare for one more thing.

This will help a lot, but it's something they have to practice, practice, practice and actually use in games prior to Pac 12 play in order for it to work. I truly believe that this added dimension at QB, by Arizona, is what lost us that game last season. Hopefully we can return the favor this year.

Moving home to be closer to his longtime GF and 5mo old daughter. Choosing being a father over football. While it is a loss for us, big kudos to him.
Gotcha, agreed.

It's better for us I suppose to get this news now rather than later down the road? Lose his scholarship in 16 class but opens a new one for 17?
