2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea

I believe Sochi is technically on the Asian side of Russia, so by 2022, four of the last five games will be in Asia.

I really have my hopes up for a successful Denver 2026 bid. I know it will be costly and will inconvenience some folks for a little bit, but the chance to be part of Olympic history is too good to pass up, IMO.

I'm not surprised. Population along with governments willing to spend a ton of money for the prestige of hosting the games despite the financial losses.

Most importantly, those are countries that have different rules about entertaining IOC members with the entertainment they provide them and standard business practices that include "sweetening the tea".

No doubt. The winter games in 2022 came down to Beijing or Almaty. This, after a half dozen or so European cities backed out, citing the cost and not wanting to put up with the not-so-subtle demands from IOC brass to grease their palms.

The Sochi games were the most expensive ever. The Russian Government bid on the games when oil was $100/barrel. By the time the bills came due, oil was half that. Ouch.

Still, I daydream of attending an opening ceremony in my lifetime. If that could be in my hometown, all the better.
