With next Wednesday (November 14th) being the start of the signing period for the frosh class of 2019 for all Olympic Sports, thought I'd start this thread, that will be used throughout the period to post any news (tweets, articles, pictures, videos, etc.) of future Olympic Sport Buffs officially signing their National Letters of Intents (NLI's). As always, if/ as any Allbuffians see any official signing news for any future Buffs, please feel free to post it.
(I normally would have waited a few days to start this thread, but since I'll be in travel mode for a few days, thought I'd do so now when I know I have the time.)

The main purpose of this thread is NOT to post news of newly found future Buffs, which is already covered in the http://www.allbuffs.com/threads/recruiting-news-olympic-sports.101643/ thread. However, If any new (unknown to us) commits do pop up during the signing process, I'll probably post them both places (with more detail on them being put in the main recruiting thread).
______________________________________________________________________

As also noted in the above linked- to general recruiting thread, things have changed/ been simplified, and there's only one*** long signing period for all*** Olympic sports this year, running from November 14th 2018 through August 1, 2019 (Source- http://www.nationalletter.org/signingDates/):

(***In prior years, (1) soccer was like football used to be, and only had one signing period which started in February and (2) the other Olympic sports used to have a short (1 week) early signing period in November (like basketball still does) followed by a regular period starting in April.)
______________________________________________________________________

For ease of reference, from the main recruiting thread, expected signers for next academic year (2019/20) we know about so far that could be signing as early as November 14th are listed below by sport. As I think about it, I’ll also fill in info below as we learn about what student-athletes have officially signed on to become future Buffs.

______________________________________________________________

(Note- it seems team sport athletes usually verbally commit AND often sign their NLI’s much earlier than those in the “individual” sports (golf, tennis, track & field/ cross country and, especially, skiing), so expect more future Buff individual sport athletes to become known and sign as the signing period goes on. Also, of course, circumstances and plans change, so assume some verbal commits listed above may not end up at CU.)

Bumped because it's signing day! (Due to travel, don't know how much news I'll be posting here for the next few hours.)

Glad I get to at least forward the confirmation of a couple incoming Buff Olympic student-athletes before I leave for a bit-

Offcial welcome and congrats to future soccer Buffs Alyssa Duke and Allie Palangi!

One more for soccer, and the 1st not previously known about from the recruiting thread- welcome and congrats to new soccer Buff Tessa (assume sister of current Buff Tatum) Barton!

(Topdrawersoccer has her as a 2 star player, and are showing her as a Mississippi State (obviously was a verbal only) commit.)

Volleyball officially announces the signing of 4 of the 6*** known 2019 verbal commits.

As I've mentioned in the recruiting thread, this might be vball's deepest class ever, with 3 of the 4 signers being rated in Prepvolleyball's list of top 100 (national) "Senior Aces".

(***The remaining 2 are possibly defensive specialist/ libero types, who often don't receive scholarships (at least for all 4 years), so may be announced later in the academic year as I don't believe they sign the same NLI's that scholarship athletes do.)

Official welcome and congrats to all 4 of today's vball signers!

"
BOULDER – The University of Colorado volleyball Head Coach Jesse Mahoney announced Wednesday the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent to begin the 2019 recruiting class.

The Buffs added a quartet of coastal athletes with a pair from California and Florida. They are: Jill Schneggenburger (OH | Tustin, Calif.), Elissa Alcantara (OH | Tampa, Fla.), Alexia Kuehl (MB | St. Augustine, Fla.) and Sterling Parker (MB | Martinez, Calif.).

"We are thrilled to welcome such a talented class of student-athletes to Boulder," said Head Coach Jesse Mahoney. "With the addition of this group we've added great size, skill and athleticism to our program while adding depth at several positions. Each are exceptional student-athletes who will represent the University of Colorado well on the court, in the classroom and in our community. We expect Jill, Alexia, Sterling and Elissa each to make a substantial and immediate impact and we are excited about the future of Colorado Volleyball."

Jill Schneggenburger joins Colorado from Beckman High School in Irvine, Calif., where she has turned into one of the top six-rotation high school players in the country. The 6-0 outside is strong in serve/receive and can hit from anywhere on the court on the offensive end. PrepVolleyball.com has her listed as their 54-ranked recruit and quotes her as 'one of the rare prep players who can be a threat from the backrow."

"Jill is one of the premier six-rotation outside hitters in the 2019 class," said Mahoney. "She has the entire package: can score offensively with a great arm and range of shots as well as pass, defend and ball-handle like a libero. She is very much in the mold of Alexa Smith and once she gets comfortable in the PAC she has the potential to play at that same level."
...

Elissa Alcantara comes to Boulder from Tampa, Fla., where she was a breakout star for Tampa Catholic High School. Alcantara was recently named an Under Armour Third Team All-American and was earlier named the 82-ranked recruit by PrepVolleyball.com who described her as a 'bouncy outside hitter with terrific court presence and unmatched charisma.'

Alcantara flourished through her time as a Crusader, capitalized by a senior campaign that featured 321 kills and a .344 hitting percentage. She also put down 34 blocks, 41 aces and had 144 digs. She finished fifth in the 5A ranks in kills and four in hitting percentage.
...
"Elissa is one of the more dynamic attackers in the 2019 class," said Mahoney. "She has a heavy arm and also the versatility to play on both the left as well as on the right. She contacts the ball at a very high point and is used to carrying a heavy offensive load on her teams up to this point. We look forward to continuing her development as an attacker and we see her as a future six-rotation player at the collegiate level."

Alexia Kuehl is a 6-6 middle from St. Augustine, Fla., who can do it all. She is the 92-ranked player in PrepVolleyball.com Top-100 and quoted as 'towers over opponents at the net and dominates offensively and defensively.' Kuehl will leave Bartram Trail as the school record holder in blocks with 235. She also is second in all-time kills with 816. As a junior she put down 306 kills, 107 blocks and hit an incredible .488 in hitting percentage. She closed her career hitting .412 and also recording 60 aces.

"Alexia is one of the tallest players in the 2019 class but what really sets her apart is at 6'6" she has great agility and body control," said Mahoney. "As a middle attacker she is comfortable hitting in front of the setter as well as behind on the slide. As Alexia gets comfortable with the speed of the college game, she has the potential to be at elite blocker in the PAC because of her great feet and length."
...

Sterling Parker comes to Colorado from Martinez, Calif., where she played for Alhambra High School. The 6-2 middle and right side hitter was a three-time League CoMVP and a four-time member of the Academic Honor Roll.

Parker finished her career with an outstanding senior season where she hit 495 kills with a .361 hitting percentage. She also had 259 digs, 53 blocks and 49 aces. In her career with the Bull Dogs, Parker had more than 1,000 kills (1,175) with a .398 hitting percentage. She also had more than 100 aces, 150 blocks and 300 digs.

"Sterling was always an elite athlete but has really matured her skill-set this past season and added to her volleyball IQ," said coach Mahoney. "Although primarily a middle blocker in club she has the potential to play on the pin as well. With her athleticism and added versatility we see her contributing right away in our program."
...

"We are still actively recruiting for our 2019 class and we will be announcing a few more additions to our roster this spring," added coach Mahoney.

Soccer has formally announced the signing of 3 more expected verbal commits. (I'd expect at least one more soccer signer to be announced.)

Official welcome and congrats to all 3!

Have only found signs of one signer for lacrosse so far. (Lax typically doesn't typically announce commits on social media, and typically just does a big announcement later in the year.)

Official welcome and congrats to Kat Kelley!

Looks like women's golf has gone "across the pond" to find a (previously unknown to me) commitment.

Welcome and congrats to Sophie Johnson!

Starting to look over at my Facebook searches- men's golf announced its 1st formal commit.

Official welcome and congrats to Canon (brother to current Buff Trevor) Olkowski!

Thanks for the updates! My 9 YO daughter, who is a total shrimp, started volleyball this year. I'm looking at the schedule for a chance to take her when we come back for the holidays this year.

A nice Insta post from one of vball commit Sterling Parker's coaches-

And, one from soccer's Kyla Ferry-

(The 2nd photo is with 2020 goalie verbal commit (and club teammate) Rachel Black.)

Looks like soccer has picked up a late 2019 commitment, as they've announced a (second) signing that neither topdrawersoccer and Allbuffs had listed before. (Sounds like from the below tweet probably their last signing for now.)

Welcome and congrats to midfielder Jade Babcock-Chi!

Note - From starting my research for the more detailed additional info I will provide and link to regarding her in the recruiting thread, she also has a pretty impressive track and field resume, so be interesting to see if she will also choose (and be allowed) to compete in that sport for the Buffs.

@AztecBuff Thanks for all of your work and dedication to the athletes in Olympic Sports. It's much appreciated.

No problem. It's fun for me. (Of course more fun when the Buffs win, but fun all the time).

And, back on topic, another fun signing photo, this one showing volleyball's Alexia Kuehl's and (I'm guessing based on their apparent height if nothing else) her parents(?). (Ms. Kuehl is 6'6" herself.)

Men's golf has formally announced the signing of their 2nd of 2 known (at least to this forum) commits.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to Mr. Hughes!

Good job by the staff of finding a keeper late in the process - much needed as JJ is the only returning player at that position.

Kyla Ferry seems to be a big time goal scorer.

A couple more tweets have popped up showing 2019 Buff signers.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to both!

  • 1st, looks like we have another previously unknown women's track and field commit- she is North Carolina's (Durham's Hillside HS) multi-events (heptathlon, etc.) student- athlete Jada Green. (As usual for a future Buff 1st discovered via him/ her signing their NLI, I'll provide a little more detail on her (HS and club results, etc.) on the recruiting thread linked to in the original post. Also note, I'm putting her in this thread solely because her tweet below looks to have one photo showing her signing on as a Buff.)

  • Also, found the below for incoming lacrosse student- athlete Katie Haley.

Here's a new and cool (and cold) way to sign.

Forgiveness in advance if I have this wrong, but based on the tweeters name, home (per her Twitter header), and the name she references in the tweet, believe the below is probably future Buff lacrosse goalie Grace Donnelly (from Pennsylvania) signing her NLI at today's Buff football game.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to Ms. Donnelly!

Looks like women's distance runner Rylee Robinson is now signed.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to her!
