With tennis (CU only has a women's team at the D1 level) being one of those sports that has competitions in both the fall and spring semesters, I wanted to set up a thread that, as normal, we can use to cover anything that comes up on and off the court up until the post-regular season begins with the Pac 12 Championships.(I'll give the post-season its own thread(s). Looks like those are usually in late April.) I'm starting this now as some on the team are in San Francisco for a tournament.

I'm also posting below the spring schedule so far.

Best wishes to the team in their 2021/22 seasons!

BOULDER – Colorado tennis will send four student-athletes to the Battle In The Bay Classic hosted by the University of San Francisco Thursday, Sept. 16, through Sunday, Sept. 19, at the California Tennis Club.

Teams attending include USC, Pepperdine, Georgia, San Diego, VCU, Pacific, Wisconsin, Kansas and USF. All players will compete in a singles and doubles tournament for NCAA Division I ranking status. The winner of the women's event will receive a main draw wild card to the Berkeley WTA singles main draw and the Rancho Santa Fe WTA challenger singles main draw. The doubles winner may earn wild cards to women's professional tournaments but are not guaranteed.

The singles tournament is made up of 32 players sorted by UTR rankings while the doubles will have 16 teams. Colorado will send Maria Campos, Sophia Derivan, Megan Forster and Caroline Pozo to compete with Forster and Pozo as one doubles team and Campos and Derivan forming the second.

The Buffs are coming off a 9-12 season that included an upset of No.12 Cal at home. After the departure of former head coach Danielle Steinberg, former associate head coach Anthony Pham was promoted to head coach in July. The team lost a pair of athletes but added three in Pozo, Betina Tokac and Mila Stanojevic.

Forster led the team last season with 12 wins in 17 matches. Campos was second on the team with 11 wins and became the first athlete in CU history to compete and win at all six singles positions in a season. Derivan has a strong campaign with an 8-3 record but was hindered by injuries. Pozo had a 12-5 individual record last season at Northwestern and went 9-1 in doubles.

The tournament will feature 16 ranked athletes in the ITA Preseason Polls. Georgia owns the only individual on the newcomer list while Pepperdine boasts five individuals. There are six ranked doubles pairs, including a pair from both Georgia and Pepperdine.

BOULDER – Colorado women's tennis program will open the 2022 dual season this weekend at the 2022 ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by No.7-ranked Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.

The team will take on Notre Dame Saturday at 2 p.m. MT during the opening round of the competition. If they win, Colorado will either take on the winner of Pepperdine/Columbia Sunday at 2 p.m., and if they lose they will take on the loser at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The Buffs will open their season a week later than anticipated after having to cancel their trip to Indiana where they were scheduled to take on Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis and Ball State. The Buffs last competed at the Bonita Bay Classic where the team defeated Notre Dame in an exhibition dual, 4-3, before dropping its other two matches against Florida Gulf Coast and Purdue.
...

The Buffaloes are 2-0 against Notre Dame but haven't faced them in a dual since seeing them twice in 1988. They have not faced off with Pepperdine since 1988 either and are 0-6 against the host school. CU has never played Columbia.

Notre Dame is 2-1 this season with a loss to Kentucky and wins against Michigan State and Bowling Green. Columbia won both matches last weekend against Long Island University and Sacred Heart with a combined score of 13-1, while Pepperdine lost its opening dual to No. 9 Cal 4-3 at home, dropping their ranking from second in the nation to seventh. The Waves have six individuals ranked in the top-100 and a pair of top-20 doubles teams that both feature Victoria Flores.

Looks like the Buffs took an L yesterday, but have a chance to comeback, starting about now, against another CU.

The team couldn't get the win yesterday, but get to bounce back at home twice this week.

Tomorrow's scheduled match against Houston has been cancelled, and next Tuesday's match scheduled match against Denver/ DU has been postponed. The new next scheduled match is now against Gonzaga, supposed to take place Sunday, Feb. 13th.

Team quickly scrambling to reschedule and/ or replace its matches cancelled so far.
