(I plan on continuing to use and update this thread and post as, hopefully, the Buffs advance in the tournament.)

#8 seed Buffs men's basketball (16-15 overall, 8-12 in conference play) begin this year's Pac 12 Tourney in the earliest time slot, with its 1st round game scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM MT on Wednesday against the #8 seed Washington Huskies (also 16-15, 8-12). The winner of that 1st round game is then scheduled to play the #1 seed and #4 nationally ranked UCLA Bruins at the same time (1:00 PM MT) the next day.

All tournament games the Buffs could be involved in, until the final, are scheduled to be on the Pac 12 Network channels, while the final will be on ESPN. (Links and more information about coverage for each game is available further down in this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

In the current NET rankings (dated 3/4/23), the Buffs are #72, while the Huskies are at #123.

Note (I have NO IDEA how accurate these websites might be historically in accurately selecting teams, so take all the below with a grain of salt.):
  • In a NIT bracketolgy I found dated today (https://thebarkingcrow.com/nit-bracketology/), the Buffs are an unseeded team (so no home games) that would be 1 of the 32 teams selected for the NIT. With them being unseeded, assume ANY wins in the Pac 12 tourney could be necessary to help insure selection.
  • I also found another bracketolgy dated today (https://theresourcenexus.com/nit-bracketology/) that has the Buffs as the best NET ranked team in a group of 4 teams in a #5 area grouping (out of 8) being selected, so looks like they might get an NIT invitation no matter what happens in Vegas at Pac 12's. (This bracketology has Wake Forest, down at NET ranking #90, as the lowest ranked NET team being selected.) With the Buffs being the "1st team out" of earning a NIT seed based purely on their NET ranking, assume they could even earn a 1st round home game if they have a good Pac 12 tourney.

UCLA's Jaylen Clark got an MRI on foot, if we get past Washington and that's a big if, and Jaylen's out that could help us for round two.

I don't like this match up at all - even if we had a healthy KJ. Everything points to Clifford and Hammond reverting back to their normal selves for this one.

"
BOULDER – University of Colorado's Tristan da Silva and KJ Simpson received All-Pac-12 Conference men's basketball honors, voted on by coaches, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Da Silva, a junior forward, was one of 10-members of the All-Pac-12 First Team while Simpson, a sophomore guard, was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team.

Da Silva leads Colorado at 15.9 points per game on 50.7 percent shooting while averaging 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals an outing. He is fifth in the Pac-12 in 3-point shooting (.402) while ranking sixth in scoring, eighth in overall field goal percentage, ninth in steals and 15th in free throw percentage.

Da Silva is the eighth different Buffalo to be named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and the 12th honor overall. The Buffaloes have had at least one All-Pac-12 First Team member each of the last five seasons.

Simpson leads Colorado in assists (111), steals (43) and free throw percentage (.817) while sitting just a fraction behind da Silva in scoring at 15.9 points per game. On the Pac-12 charts, Simpson is sixth in free throw percentage and steals, seventh in scoring and assists, 12th in minutes played (31.8 mpg) and 13th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5).

The Buffaloes have had at least one player on either the All-Pac-12 First or Second Team all 12 seasons of their conference membership. It's the fourth time in the last five years Colorado has had multiple players represented on the all-conference teams, and sixth time overall.

Colorado, 16-15 overall, finished tied for eighth in the Pac-12 at 8-12 and is the No. 9 seed at the upcoming Pac-12 Tournament, Mar. 8-11, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Preview for tomorrow's game - https://cubuffs.com/news/2023/3/7/m...-tournament-wednesday-against-washington.aspx

"
PAC-12 POSTSEASON FACTS: Colorado is in its 12th Pac-12 Tournament, coming in as the No. 9 seed. The Buffaloes tied with Washington for eighth in the final Pac-12 standings (8-12), but the Huskies took the No. 8 seed due to a sweep of the season series. Colorado is a No. 9 seed for the first time in this tournament and its the program's lowest since 2015, when the Buffaloes were the No. 10 seed. Colorado also tied for eighth in the 2014-15 standings, but lost tiebreakers to drop to No. 10.

Colorado holds an overall record of 16-10 in the championship. The Buffaloes have two Pac-12 Tournament championship game appearances, winning the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament title in 2012, as the No. 6 seed, winning four games in four days in Los Angeles. The Buffaloes were the runner up in 2021.

Colorado is 7-8 in the championship as the lower seeded team, 9-2 as the higher seed. Six of Colorado's 10 Pac-12 Tournament losses have come to the top two seeds.

The Buffaloes were the last Pac-12 program to walk away from the annual event without a win. Colorado had won eight-straight first round games before falling to Washington State in 2020, just hours before the rest of the Pac-12 Tournament, and NCAA Tournament, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Buffaloes followed up that setback with a run to the 2021 championship game and the 2022 semifinals.
...

MISSING BUFFS: Sophomore KJ Simpson missed the Utah game, and will miss the Pac-12 Tournament after being diagnosed with mononucleosis last week. Simpson leads Colorado in assists (111) and steals (43) and is second in scoring at 15.9 points per game.

On the Pac-12 charts Simpson is sixth in free throw percentage (.817) and steals (1.5 spg), seventh in scoring and assists, 12th in minutes played (31.8 mpg) and 13th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5).

Junior J'Vonne Hadley has missed the last seven games and is expected to miss the remainder of the season with an injury to his right (shooting) hand. Hadley averaged 8.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the field. He was Colorado's leading rebounder and ranked second on the team in field goal shooting and third in scoring and steals at the time of his injury

Javon Ruffin has missed the last three games with a knee injury. He was averaging 6.0 points and is second on the team in 3-point percentage (.358) and third in 3-pointers made (24).

Colorado has featured eight different starting lineups this season, its most since the 2017-18 team had 11.

ABOUT THE HUSKIES: Washington finished the 2022-23 season with identical records to Colorado - both overall (16-15) and in league play (8-12). The Huskies have dropped their last two and six of nine overall. Washington averages 69.2 points on 43.1 percent from the field. Defensively, the Huskies have allowed 70.2 points per game. Washington is the top overall 3-point defense in the Pac-12 (.298) and ranks second in free throw percentage (.746) and blocked shots (5.3 bpg).

Senior forward Keion Brooks, Jr., leads Washington and ranks third in the Pac-12 in scoring at 17.8 points per game. He is eighth on the league charts in rebounding at 6.9 per contest. Cole Bajema averages 8.5 points per game and has a team-best 46 3-point field goals. Braxton Meah is averaging 9.0 points and leads the Huskies in rebounds (7.2 rpg), blocks (1.7 bpg) and overall shooting (.711).

SERIES RECORDS: This will be the 36th meeting between Colorado and Washington with the Huskies holding a 21-14 advantage. Washington swept the season series and has won nine of the last 12 overall. This will be the second meeting between the two teams at the Pac-12 Tournament. No. 1 seeded Washington defeated the No. 5 seeded Buffaloes, 66-61, in the semifinals of the 2019 Pac-12 Tournament. Overall on a neutral floor the series is tied at 2-2.

CONFERENCE HONORS: Tristan da Silva and KJ Simpson received All-Pac-12 Conference honors, voted on by coaches, the league office announced on Mar. 7.

Da Silva, a junior forward, was one of 10-members of the All-Pac-12 First Team while Simpson, a sophomore guard, was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team.

Da Silva is the eighth different Buffalo to be named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and the 12th honor overall. The Buffaloes have had at least one All-Pac-12 First Team member each of the last five seasons.

The Buffaloes have had at least one player on either the All-Pac-12 First or Second Team all 12 seasons of their conference membership. It's the fourth time in the last five years Colorado has had multiple players on one of the all-conference teams, and sixth time overall.

If LL plays well, we have a pretty decent chance.

Maybe 10 games back (?), KJ was out, and guys who had kind of 'deferred' to him, played better. Saw that last game. KJ is great, but he's so much the focus of our offense, other players sometimes pass up their own opportunities.

Whatever the spread, I'll take the Buffs and the points (just checked, and Buffs are favored by 2.5. I thought that with a short bench, we'd be getting 2.5)

Got to be able to knock down shots today.
I haven't seen us play as many games as some of you guys. From what I have seen, some of our guys aren't close to shot ready when the ball comes their way. A lot of their looks are taken forced or they panic and put it on the deck. Have yourself set up and let the **** go when it's there, doesn't take much thought for that if you're open. I like when they push tempo too, biased I know, but not every damn thing has to be out of the half court. Second to last thing, TAKE CARE OF THE BASKETBALL AND MAKE YOUR ****ING FREE THROWS! :D Saying all that, if you wanna pass up a good shot for a better one, do so, it's called basketball. Go Buffs!

This is worth the paper it's printed on:

Mark J on KOA, said 'an analytics guy told me last night, if the Buffs win this game, we're in the NIT'

I was looking at an NIT prediciton site this AM that had us in.

I'd welcome the extra games.

Tad just said, and he took his time, "KJ is at maybe 60% of his game" Hard to believe

Basketball without whistles is the best.
They decided to give the guys a break with two meaningless whistles. I was rooting for getting under the 12 minute mark.

And ugh. This team continues to make so many boneheaded plays. That sequence by Da Silva was tired and bad.

LOB and Gabiddon are just playing harder than everyone on Washington. Quincy is an enigma of raw talent. It's clear why he hasn't been able to get on the floor when we're healthy.
