2025-26 Coaching Carousel

I found the article below today. Looks like we brought in Kenny Ingram an experienced DL coach to help Dante Carter. He is listed as analyst role, but was Gus Malzahn's trusted lieutenant. Also, on 247 insider I read that Helow is still here. I like Helow and he seems solid up above. I think the DL/Edge will be in good hands, but it is a matter of talent and depth. Looks like Marve will take the lead with the LBs, Clancey Pentrgast as LB analyst, and Hart as asst? Mathis returns as CBs w/ Vonn Bell doing safeties. I wonder how much Prime may focus some energy with the secondary, as it is his forte' now that Marion will be very hand-on with the offense.

Although, I'm not sure our portal haul/recruiting will make up for departed players + graduation, I am optimistic with this D staff. It will be a huge lift for sure, but no place but up. Also, I'm interested to see if Marve makes further changes.

Like many teams, I think we are trending younger at asst coaching positions. IMO, college coaching has become a young man's game, not to say many experienced coaches are not great; however it seems the demands of asst coaching have changed re: player retention, transfer portal, recruiting, unit installs, and just the rush to put all the peices together. 24/7/365+ job.

Utah did the dirty

It sounds like UU wanted him to go with a ‘coach in waiting scenario’ where he gives up some power to the new guy. Please retire arrangement and coach in waiting deals never seem to work out as intended.

KW, otoh, wanted a final contract for significant money after years and years and years of loyal service.

KWs agent noticed the big private equity deal.

Michigan and KW came out on top and UU seems to have sour grapes. CIW never works out. 😂

We clearly reached the point (a while ago) where the money at issue just makes everyone an ass****.

When there are tens of millions of dollars at stake, there’s no more “standing on principle” or “being a man of your word,” anymore.

And there’s always the crowd who will say, “Hey, for that amount of money….”

KW and Urban have been easily the most successful coaches in the history of that program and KW was there much longer so he earned a legendary status.

It is almost impossible to make the fans happy being the guy who follows the legend. Bama went through it following the Bear, and now we will see how much patience they have with DeBoer who in two years has "only" won .714 of his games.

Unless the guy following the legend immediately either surpasses the legend or wins the NC (in some cases more than one is needed) the fans are going to be critical.

KW is going to end up experiencing some of this at Michigan after Harbaugh left the program on a NC season and multiple wins over tOSU (most important day of the year for Michigan fans.)

When you have a CIW the fans expect things to continue at the level of the best of coach that was replaced and ignoring the rough spots the legend had.

When you have the CIW people expect an extension of the guy he replaced. Every loss is greeted with "Coach X wouldn't have done it that way." or "Coach X would never allow that to happen." or "Coach X would know how to fix this."

I am amused that UU and KW were having conversations about how to end of his career. He was the winningest coach in UUs history. Seven 10 win seasons. Two Pac12 titles.

Somehow in this conversation he ends up in a new job at Michigan? :ROFLMAO:
