So you prefer guaranteed mediocrity over taking a chance? We all want CU basketball to be better. Tad isn't the problem. The problem is the commitment by the University. Tad may not be able to take them to the next level, but I don't know if there are any coaches that can do better than Tad with the resources and commitment we have in place. If we can't give the program more $, then we are left with mediocrity with Tad or we can gamble and likely find a coach that will flame out in 3 years. I understand both sides and wanting to take a shot, but why not give Tad a chance to succeed with a larger commitment before cutting the cord.
We aren't going to open a closet at the CEC and find an extra $7 mil for a roster next year.
Today's game and our current conference aren't what we faced for 14 of the Tad years. He's 31/66 (.469) in the past 2 years. He can't do the NIL game - FFS he gave money to Malone. This is where I am at. Tad is the winningest MBB coach since 1950. You have to go back to Frosty Cox (insert joke here) to find somebody with a better win percentage. (Tad is .620 and the aforementioned frigid member is .623). Before that you go back to 19 freakin' 18 to find somebody whose one year record had a better win percentage. Tad's record is better than the guy they named the court after (Sox Walseth). Really, what would a guy have to do to keep from being tarred and feathered around here?
Do I want better? Yes. Do I know anyone who would have actually been here during Tad's tenure that would have done better? No. Do I know who we could get who would be better? No.
Tad gets asked to coach for USA basketball from time to time, and I am going with the assumption they don't hire stiffs at USA Basketball.
Cut the guy some slack. Some of you act like he ran over your dog and you want to see him fired, his house burned down and then have his car keyed on the way out of town.
By your logic, shouldn't we also win some upsets? What was our best win this year, home vs. TCU, a 1.5 pt favorite? @ ASU, again 1.5 pts?Your expectation seems to be that CU wins every 50/50 game and never suffers an upset. Tad has spoiled you with how close he gets to achieving that (like GB was in football).
He always gets an extra year. It's written into his perpetual contract. In hoops sometimes anybody can beat anybody on a given night. The NET rankings are what count come end of season. The Quad system. This year: CU#76 and CSU #87. Truly, both teams are ASS.
CU's bad losses were: UNC #149 (20-12) and @CSU #87 (21-12). All the other teams you mention as inexcusable are ranked higher than CU, 3 have 20 wins! Bailor less but #50 (16-16)--7 Q1/Q2 wins, no bad losses.
CSU lost at home to Denver #241 (12-17); @Fresno #153 (13-19); and home to WY #99 (18-15)--these are inexcusable and complete ass!
It is what it is. Given last season's debacle, with a young team Tad was +2 in conference thus he got an extra year here.
Tad's entire gameplan is to get a core group of freshmen, build them into a cohesive team, and win big every 3/4 years. It's what he's done here over and over.
It just doesn't work anymore because as soon as anyone shows promise, they're GONE.
